As an aspiring genjutsu specialist, it would be key that he learn to master gain control, if not mastery, over his own will power. By being able to keep control of his own mind and fend off mental attacks, he would be better equipped to face other genjutsu users and those who employed mental techniques.
To ensure that he had an ideal learning environment, he had moved out of the city and towards an empty plain of grass so that the only other lifeforms were the small animals that lived within the grass; they would be of no worry to his training. Initially, he planned his training to involve learning to being able to completely empty his mind from distraction; this had practical uses as well, for if he could push aside the distractions that generally came with a mental attack, he could focus on actually dispelling the jutsu.
To practice this, he planned to meditate first in an empty environment, which would allow him to grasp how to clear his mind, then he would move to a more distracting environment, but that for later. For now, he settled down onto the grassy ground, sitting cross-legged with his back perfectly straight, hands resting upon his knees. Closing his eyes, he began to slow his breathing to be shallow and slow to bring his heart beat down; by manually shutting his body down to a level just above that needed to survive, he would better be able to clear his mind. Or so he hoped.
For nearly thirty seconds he sat there, his mind empty of thoughts and distractions, but when an ant or something similar started to crawl up his leg, he couldn’t help but open his eyes and flick it off his leg. His first attempt at meditation ruined, he sat back down and took up his original position, planning to try again. Repeating the process of shutting down his body, slowly emptying his mind; the distraction and helped him realise that he couldn’t simply empty his mind on control, but it had to a slow process of letting go off thoughts, emotions and anything else. This time he managed to ignore the presence of the small animals that inevitably started to crawl up his leg and for several minutes, he managed to sit completely still, mind completely empty.
However, his meditation was once again interrupted as a cloud passed overhead, bathing him in a cold shadow that had him shivering. Once the shadow had passed, he started the process again, this time he ignored any cloud that passed overhead and the fresh breeze that started to pick up. Over the course of the next couple of hours, he meditated and focused on keeping his mind empty and shielded from the distractions of the outside world. It was a learning process that took time; he had to start his meditation over at least half a dozen times as various things broke his silence and mental inactivity.
Still, each time he started again, he could remain in the inactive, empty state for longer than before, until he reached a point where he was able to sit, unmoving and his mind completely empty for over an hour.
It was a period of time that in reality was far longer than he would need, but the practice it gave him in beginning to strengthen his mind and willpower would be useful, especially since he planned to now move to an area filled with far more stimuli than an empty field.
