Man, when was the last time I meditated?Ayumu sat a couple of miles from a small town in the Land of Sound. His jacket was hanging loose over his shoulders, and his shirt was half unbuttoned, leaving his chest bare to the tropical albeit cooling air. His perch was a flat and sandy rock on top of small hill, in the middle of a rocky clearing barely 50 meters in diameter. A wind was beginning to sweep in the cold air of the coming winter.
The Uchiha sat crosslegged and allowed his chakra to emanate out of his body, feeling all the enchantments and strange curses clinging to him from his recent travels. Gathering his strength and performing a series of handseals, he would finally mutter a quiet "Okay" to himself. Having spoken, his spell would be completed, and the Word of Redemption would wash over his very being, removing all the effects which clouded his aura.
Feeling suddenly exposed, he would reach up and fasten another button on his shirt, before shaking his head and muttering a reminder; "Focus, Ayumu." He stroked his chin gently, feeling his stubble with his knuckles as he began to drift deeper into a state of self awareness.
Do you remember climbing this hill? Your legs hurt, buddy. You've been walking a long way, and your legs are sore and all, but they still swing just fine. So why does the pain make you want to stop? The pain isn't real, it's just something to steal your focus. As long as your legs can swing, you can walk.As he meditated on the falsehood of his own limits, he would perform a variety of enchantments. Performing them slowly, one after another, Ayumu would strengthen himself by means of sheer belief.
With all his curses and enchantments freed of tangles and rid of dangling fragments of Jutsu he'd cast over the last few months, he could finally close his eyes and begin to think of nothing at all. He sat for half and hour before this state began to be interrupted once more by the nagging thoughts of hopelessness. In an effor to rid this intrusive mental naysayer from his head, he opened his eyes, stood up slowly, and began walking back towards town.
Halfway down the trail to civilization, he would stop and stand silently, realizing he'd missed one vital curse. The Bastard's Prayer he thought. Not wanting to continue further and risk letting his sole protection against his own stupidity slip away into the night, he knelt right there by the side of the trail, the stump of a rotting tree as his altar. With a twist of ironic reverence he smiled at the sky and clasped his hands in prayer.
When the prayer was finished, he would apply one final enchantment to himself. He was now free to ignore the risks of addiction in all its many forms, and to wander with no devotion whatsoever.
