One of the more depressing moments that happens on site is when you forget to post your items or your gear. As a new member I joined the chuunin exams a long while back and it was ruled I had to take the exams naked. I took it in stride and did reasonably well despite all of that. But as a brand new genin new to the site I really pushed myself to make the cut to make the exams on time only to royally mess up in an embarrassing way. narutoforumrp.proboards.com/post/1014461/thread
I remember being pretty distraught when it happened as it was my first time actually rping with anyone on the site. I recall wanting to simply drop from the exams and actually give up. In fact if you look at that same exam another ninja did exactly the same thing I did and indeed did quit the site. To my knowlege they left and never returned. I know now days we don't make people go naked, Rather, just without their gear. But even still the feeling of forgetting your items is a painful one because often times it's more of an ooc mistake rather than an Ic mistake.
Even now addressing items when you enter a post seems absurdly tedious. You only need to read cadoc's, myself or Loki's entry posts to see what I'm talking about. It gets to the point where it's 3-5 paragraphs of nothing but weapon specs, different enchantments and enhancements that I doubt most people even read. The posts aren't allowed to be copy pasted so often times I end up having to essentially junble up all the gear im bringing and list the items again just to bring all my stuff along. Frankly, it gets so tedious I hate joining new threads just because I don't want to post up an into. narutoforumrp.proboards.com/post/1085458/thread
I KNOW someone is already thinking something along the lines of. "Well you don't need to bring so much stuff." I understand that and I get that. Of course being a minimalist and bringing fewer items is a solution. But it's not a good one because it doesn't address the issue. When your build becomes flushed out and pushed towards the late game GMs tend to throw such wild crazy obsticals that often times having some off the wall gadget like a blood replicator is the difference between passing through the event and having to cut someone open and pour their blood on the floor to open a passage way. narutoforumrp.proboards.com/post/1064953/thread
For people that tend to reach this point in their characters development showing up unprepared to events, knowing GMs with their near infinite power can throw anything at you and pretty much get a free pass the idea of showing up with just a sword and a dream not only seems foolish, but also in execution seems ill advised as it often leaves you huddled near a snow bank getting ready to freeze to death. narutoforumrp.proboards.com/post/1060425/thread If you look further in this thread you can see the stark difference between someone who brought all the gear they might need (Cadoc) and someone who didn't (okuda) chiefly ending that one passed the mission almost effortlessly where the other didn't even make it to the first obstical outside the environment.
I think our systems should aim to promote Rp and not punish those who want to be prepared. Because generally speaking it's those who come over prepared to events and epics that end up carrying the team by having the right tool or gadget at the right place or time. I would like to see something that we as players could put in our bio where can simply list the items, or even prewrite our gear and equipment in our bio and simply copy paste it in without needing to rehash all our gear for the 40th-50th time.
