In the warm shallows of a quiet sea lies what remains of the Nymphe, a ship lost during a freak storm who never arrived at port. She's in a rough shape; there are giant cracks and broken beams strewn everywhere along the black sand of the island. She's no longer home to a crew, but various fish keep her company even if to them she's merely a safe harbor for their young. It can be difficult to spot them all as they hide at the slightest movement. They're new inhabitants of a home lost to the tides and time.
The Nymphe is an unsettling sight from a distance, like a dead animal slowly rotting and eaten by maggots. She hangs slightly to one side and her remaining sails hang motionless in place nestled in between large blackstone boulders that reached from the sea like a maw. A cage, a few chests and a couple of crates leave possibly personal reminders of the crew now lost to time. Twisted bars and rusty chains can be seen in some of the broken ones. There are fleshy remains around the ship, a macabre sight of a crew who deserved better than this dark, watery grave. A dark storm could be seen on the horizon and a low rumble of thunder could be be heard as it rolled across the crashing inky waves.
It was the starting stages of an ephemeral twilight. The sun was dropping behind the dark clouds of the horizon giving the shipwreck an abatement from the sweltering heat. Shipwrecks were far from uncommon in this area. Experienced navigators alone would take this route to avoid the longer hackneyed trade routes. This gauntlet was taken by the bold and for the crew of the Nymphe it would be their last voyage. Alas, misfortune for man is not misfortune for beast. Blood was in the water and the swollen bodies of the crew provided a hearty meal for those who lurked in the depths.
Off shore another ship recently spotted signs of a Kraken. Drawn in by the new food source it's presence has prevented all maritime trade along this route. It was coin that brought the crew of the Nyphe to a watery grave, it would be coin that would pay to remove the creatures who fed on them. The merchants guild wasted no time in hiring hunters (or wannabes) to deal with their issue promptly.
