The earsplitting crack of bones tickled her ears, a split second before the explosion of pain rippled through her being. She opened her mouth, letting out a blood curdling scream. She braced herself against the lip of the crater she had made from the ground. She pushed herself up onto her elbows, but the pain recoiled and sprung at her again, tenfold. She gritted her teeth. “Get away from me! Get away!” She yelled.
“Shut up, you filthy cunt!” came the rude and curt reply.
More pain wracked her body, sending spasms coursing through her senses and blood spurting from the many gashes she had obtained. She tried to open her eyes, but only blood blurred her vision as it trickled down from a cut on her scalp.
“It was a foolish thing to come back, Hitomi. You can’t even hope to kill me. Not now, not ever.” the man’s voice erupted again, moments before he launched a flurry of open-palmed chakra bursts into her abdomen. She was again forced up, and back, this time landing with a sickening thud into the trunk of a pine. The tree buckled under loss of support, then swayed precariously, before falling backwards, creating a plume of dust in its shuddering wake. Hitomi, weak and exhausted, again tried to get up, but collapsed only again.
She wiped away the blood from her good eye and blinked, only a distortion of images showing up. Seiichi stood before her, the plume of dust bellowing behind him, then clearing. A giant roar resounded, almost splitting Hitomi’s hyper-sensitive eardrums. Seiichi’s form was then gone, and Hitomi fell into unconsciousness.
“Dear child, awaken. You have been dreaming.”
Hitomi opened her eyes, the dusky scent of a wooded house, and the pale light of dawn creeping into the house meeting her senses. She sat up, pain ebbing slightly.
“Grandma-ma? I’m back...here…but how?”
The elderly woman who had housed Hitomi for the past 5 years clicked her tongue and smiled. ”You were brought back by Ofelia. I’m not sure how she got there, but she may have sensed your pain and came to rescue you. Good thing to, or you would be dead. What in the heavens were you thinking to have gone after Seiichi like that?”
Hitomi shook her head, ignoring the question. ”How long have I been unconscious?”
“About three weeks, child.”
Hitomi blinked. ”Three weeks!?” She laid back in her bed and sighed. That’s a lot of wasted time! Had she missed meeting her team? What had she done, being as naïve as to go into combat with Seiichi, an ANBU of the Hidden Earth village? She sighed. “Grandma-ma, am I good enough to walk?”
The woman nodded. ”But it is not a wise choice, to strain your body so. Take the crutches, if you must.”
Hitomi stared to the side of her bed, where a pair of crutches leaned against the wall. She nodded and pushed her feet over the side of the bed, and hoisted herself up and grabbed a hold of the crutches. She looked in the mirror as she passed, but turned away. She was still a bloody mess. Scathed and beaten. She sighed and headed out the door. ”I’ll be back, Grandma-ma.” she called, before she shut the door behind her.
