“Congratulations on passing the exams, kiddo.”
“Yeah, good work there, honey!” Kiroshi’s parents said as he walked out of the academy with his grass hitai-ate around his arm. He stood and chatted with his fellow classmates as they all left the academy after graduating and becoming Genin before heading home with his parents to the blacksmith. As the family got home, Kiroshi’s father pulled Kiroshi aside and handed him a brand new, freshly made Guan Do/Three Section Staff.
“Awesome! Thanks old man!” Kiroshi’s dad knocked him on the head with the end of his hammer for that comment. After that he made his way upstairs and fell asleep, a broad grin on his face.
Kiroshi felt the first trickles of moonlight flick across his face from the window in his bedroom and immediately hurled himself out of the comfy mattress and into a pair of black sandals. He threw on his black Gi and sighed in happiness before tying his brand new Grass hitai-ate around his left arm. He grabbed his equipment from his bedside table and pulled his Guan Do from its stand in the corner before racing downstairs. “Cya mom! Cya dad!” He cried as he raced towards the back door of the store. His dad seemed to appear out of no where as he blocked the door.
“Where do you think you are going?” Kiroshi shrugged and said, “Training, why?”
His father glared for a moment then broke out in a grin, “Take this with you then.” He plucked a scroll from the bench next to the door and threw it to Kiroshi, “It has some water bottles sealed inside it. I bought it for you the other day.” Kiroshi nodded his thanks and took off out the door.
Kiroshi raced along the rooftops until he reached the training areas and he spotted the apple tree growing just outside his favourite spot. Launching from the rooftop, he spun his Guan Do from along his shoulders and sliced an apple from the tree before catching the stem of it between his teeth. Smiling, Kiroshi kept walking until he reached the stump towards the side of the grassy plain.
“’Ere ‘e go!” He said between clenched teeth as he threw the apple from his mouth and into the air sending the bladed end of his Guan Do up after it. He sliced it into 6 pieces before they landed on the stump. “Boo yah!”
He swallowed the last pieces of apple before placing his staff down beside the stump and relaxed his muscles a bit before pumping chakra into them. “Sugizou…”
He raced from side to side, along about 15 meters of the training field before stopping and stretching out his muscles again. He looked behind him and managed to glimpse the last few after images fading away into nothingness. Smiling at his achievement, finally reaching 15 meters, he walked back across to his stump.
“Alright then, I suppose it’s time I gave this new jutsu a try.” Recalling the handseals in his mind, Kiroshi closed his eyes focused on his chakra for a minute. Opening his eyes, he grinned widely and sent his hands into the required seals, “Boar, Dragon, Ram, Boar. Mokuton: Soutei Hashira!”
Kiroshi noticed a slight quiver in the ground a few centimeters in front of him and sighed. “Damn it.” Kiroshi folded his hands into the seals again and molded more chakra than before. “Mokuton: Soutei Hashira!” He watched as a small branch started to form through the grass. Smiling, he pushed some more chakra into it and watched as the branch grew until it was a good 5 cm tall.
He tried it again and again before he started to grow tired. Sitting down on the ground, he fumbled with a piece of grass he plucked from the ground and he wondered about the principals of the technique. “Maybe if I had a target…” He looked over to his Guan Do and grinned. He flicked the blade of grass from his hand and raced across to the stump, where he flicked the staff up with his foot and caught it in his hand before ramming it into the ground.
“Alright, once more.” Kiroshi focused and folded his hands into seals before speaking the jutsu out loud. He watched as 3 branches popped out of the grass and wrapped their way up around the staff. Easily reaching 15 inches, Kiroshi stopped pumping chakra into the branches and gazed at the branches as they receded back into the ground.
He sighed in content as he fell onto his back and watched the moon over head. “I wish I had someone to fight, that would put the icing on the cake for tonight.” He got up again and decided to train his other techniques. He pulled his Guan Do from the ground and was about to try his Blade Rush technique when he thought of a way to train both that and his new Binding Pillars technique. Sending his hands into the seals and drawing up a single branch about 6 inches in diameter, he charged the blade of his Guan Do with chakra.
“Yosh!” Kiroshi raced the 6 meters to the branch and lunged at it with the blade. The sharp metal pierced the branch and released the built up chakra, causing a large burst to fly out, tearing the weakened branch from the ground and disintegrating it.
Kiroshi panted at the sheer amount of effort and chakra he needed to do that. “Never… again… Not until… I’m stronger…” he leaned on his bladed staff for support as he made his way back over to the stump. Sitting down on it, he pulled a scroll from his pouch and opened it, revealing the kanji for water.
Placing his hands into the seals required, he mumbled “Kuchiyose no Jutsu,” and placed his hand on the black kanji, sending chakra into it via his palm. He removed his hand and watched as a bottle of fresh water popped into existence. He unscrewed the cap and started gulping down the water before placing it on the stump and standing up again.
“Next up…” He quickly went through his list of jutsu in his head and pulled on out. “Kaze Ya no Jutsu.” He sighed at the thought and lied down on the soft grass and shut his eyes. “Maybe later…”
