The rain was light today, a great anomaly for the village. Abner awoke to the grey, opaque skies with a bored look in his eyes. Today reminded him of when he first tried to become more like everyone else. When he tried to become normal. When he tried to become human. That was nine years ago.
It was the first day of Spring. Clouds had parted and the sun decided to make its annual visit to Amegakure. Abner's parents decided to open up the shop early, as business was bustling with patrons. No time for Abner or his brother. "Go outside and play, but stay within our sights", was their command. So he wasn't of use to his parents. Fine, Abner had no interest in spending time at the store, greeting others anyway.
Abner sat on the swing set that overlooked the store, watching customers come and go for what felt like hours. The Hozuki couldn't even move on the swing set as his body lacked the physical solid necessities. He actually only waited fifteen minutes. Customers entered and exited the store gleefully, with soft drinks in hand, without the worry of melting to the ground. Abner felt a stir of envy.
"Must be nice", Abner whispered to himself. His viscous body swirled softly as he looked at the ground. Then he clenched his right fist. Moments before, His thin wrist barely locked onto his equally thin hands. Now it began to weave and form into a more locked form. It felt secure, for a moment. Fascinated, Abner clutched the left fist. Now, his opposite wrist began to do the same. The longer young Abner held it, the more solid the form.
By this time, Abner had relinquished his grip on his right side and the right wrist had rescinded to its previous flimsy form. A bit frustrated, but far more curious, Abner clutched both sides of the swing's rope with both hands. Now both wrists began to weave and solidify slowly. Abner felt himself concentrate as he closed his eyes. He could feel his wrists and back of his hands fuse into more thicker membranes.
Still not letting his grip go, Abner's young curiosity led to small ambition. Could these newly formed (but temporary) body parts be extended? Could he use find sensation and extend into his fingertips? It was worth a shot. Abner began to squeel and heave as he began to will himself into spreading his internal energy from his wrists into his fingers. Sure he could hold the rope of the swing, but he wanted to feel it. He wanted to experience a degree of sensation.
Atsui Usumaku (Transitional Membrane)
Rank: D, C, B, A
Skill: Ninjutsu, Supplementary
Effect: The user is capable of controlling the thickness of their transitional membrane. This technique is mandatory for all under the Hozuki bloodlimit. This is because it grants them their survival in battles and harsh weather conditions.
Special: ---
Drawback: Switching from ranks that are not next to each other takes 1 post (You cannot instantly switch from D rank thickness to B rank.). One can only switch their rank up or down one time per post.
Description:
During training, the user is capable of adjusting and altering their internal water pressure in their bodies. Doing so results in an increased density of their outer membrane. Chakra released from their nuclei protrusions allows water to be pressurized in a certain way underneath their transitional membrane thus resulting in the thickening and solidification of their skin. In order to switch from a higher rank of thickness to a lower, the user must decrease the amount of chakra released from their nuclei protrusions. Also, the user leaves their palms and the soles of their feet remain permeable (D ranked), thus allowing the usage of the water inside of them no matter what rank their in.
D ranked: Very thin and moist layer of skin. This is the default layer of skin the Hozuki are normally in. Under this rank, the skin is most permeable, meaning they are able to absorb large amounts of water. Although they feel no physical pain, ninjutsu and genjutsu based attacks can affect them. Also, this skin is not suggested for harsh weather conditions. Exceedingly hot or cold weather can evaporate them or freeze them easily.
C ranked: Under this rank, the transitional membrane is a similar thickness to that of the human skin. Can withstand any kind of weather conditions a human could. Since skin is more solidified, physical assaults on a Hozuki are more effective.
B ranked: Under this rank, the water within their bodies is pressurized by chakra to the point in which it resembles a rock like thickness and texture. An Hozuki under this rank becomes stronger when landing physical attacks by half the rank of the attack they are using (a D rank punch gets an extra E rank damage added on). Speed is decreased by half a movement.
A ranked: Under this rank, the water within their bodies are at the highest point of pressurization in which resembles a metal like thickness and texutre. An Hozuki under this rank becomes stronger when landing physical attacks by half the rank of the attack they are using. Speed is decreased by a full movement. Limbs are less prone to breaking. This state can only last for 3 posts before going back to D ranked thickness because it consumes a large amount of chakra.
Limit: Must belong to the Hozuki Bloodlimit, No slots are used up. Every Hozuki member begins with the D ranked version of this technique and work their way up.
