Growing up in the Hidden Mist village tends to change innocent children to cold hearted warriors bent on surviving in a world that doesn't give damn. However, Shinji took a severe turn from the primal ways of the Hidden Mist. This young child raised by a single mother is a loving person that helps the weak and curses the strong and selfish. He shows no respect for those who exploit their power to abuse the weak, but protects and cherishes those he loves passionately. He remains sensitive and open with his drifting heart which can be broken and mended in seconds. His mind and body, however, remain focused and trained for the harsh trials of life. He fights to protect and will not hesitate to kill anyone who dares to harm those he loves.Appearance:
Yet, this boy who is so passionate and disciplined towards his morals remains laid back and calm. Some view him as shy and to an extent he is. He is not outgoing and though many are attracted to his compassionate demeanor, he is not quick to make friends or let them into his life. He will not push you away, but he will not let you in either as in a village where children are killers it is hard to trust someone. He is not confrontational towards anyone and would much rather avoid combat if possible. He dislikes murder or war of any kind and takes no enjoyment in fatal combat.
His intellect and ability to empathize with people allows him to view things from all perspectives; especially the perspective of a victim. He is not judgmental towards anyone until he has thoroughly examined their actions. Even so, he is not quick to point out one's faults unless it is harming someone else besides the individual. "Take the time to examine how hard it is to change yourself and you will realize how difficult it will be to change someone else." This quote although negative is true and Shinji, who tries to remain optimistic is continually let down by mankind which seems to make no sense. He wishes for peace, but has come to accept as long as humans live it will never exist.
Shinji though not confrontational or violent remains very competitive. He dislikes losing, but is quick to learn from his mistakes so that he may surpass those who challenge him. He enjoys sparring or any type of athletic or intellectual competition. He does not do this to uplift his pride, but rather to test his own skills and hopefully use those skills to protect in dire situations. He trains hard and has the mentality to focus on tasks so that he may accomplish them. Yet, at times, he is stubborn and after months of holding in words he can even become angry or emotionally distressed breaking down in tears. His sensitivity and inability to express everything he feels remains his greatest flaw and he regrets many untaken opportunities especially those revolving around romance.
Shinji still remains a cheery child in some sense. Although, he does not show most people this side of him he prefers to write out his hopes and dreams for the world. He is a very inspirational individual at times and when he is feeling well about the aesthetics and concepts of life he becomes a very gentle and understanding person. However, since this side of him has been chastised for his aspirations and optimism he hides and rids himself of this persona. However, if one were to glance at his writings which possess passionate words and sincerity of thought, one might change their perspective of Shinji if not the world.
Finally, Shinji has strong morals revolving around woman. He grew up in a place where his mother was the kindest villager the God-forsaken place had ever seen. His mom was such a kind and loving woman that Shinji promised he would treat girls like his mom treated him. However, as he went through life he soon found that women intelligent, beautiful, or serene were treated terribly. He was awed by how they were undermined and underappreciated. He could not do anything to change it, but Shinji makes a constant effort to treat women well friends or lovers.

Shinji has short cut, azure hair and matching colored eyes. His hair hangs down and for a casual look he may let it cover one of his eyes, but never during battle. However, a long strand of his hair hangs from the back of his head, down the center of his back. It is kept in place by a dark blue band. His body is barely tanned since he is not exposed too much sunlight, and his face is petite in the sense that there is no excess fat on his nose, mouth, chin, or ears which are relatively small. His eyes are diamond shaped and his eye brows remain thin cuts of azure hair.
He has no facial hair or blemishes, but has small infected scrapes on his back and legs due to the lack of medical assistance in the Hidden Mist. His torso and abdominals though small are fairly toned, and his arms are slightly bigger in proportion to his body. They, however, remain the wingspan of his height and his fingers are lengthy in comparison to his small and strangely soft hands which may be covered by black, fingerless gloves which bare his village symbol on rectangle metal plates in the center of them. These plates slightly scratched from battle are the only indicators of his loyalty to his village.
He has small hips and his legs which are well portioned to his body have small hamstrings, but strongly developed calf muscles which contribute to his speed and jumping ability. His feet are a size twelve and look big in comparison to the rest of his body. He wears high-top shoes which have a one inch thick layer of a strong but light material on the bottom. The overall shoe is white except for the light brown material described earlier. The shoestring, however, are dark brown and are shaped in wide rectangles. He wears ankle socks which cannot be seen unless he is wearing his occasional white slippers.
He wears slightly baggy, tan, cargo shorts which stop just below the knee cap. They have no pockets, but two dark brown belts hang from the left and right hips of Shinji. They are fasted to the front right or left area of his pants and cling to respective back area. They hang loosely to his knees and serve no purpose except for appeal. White bandages are tied around both of his arms beginning just below the elbow and ending at the wrist. They, too, serve no purpose besides appeal as well.

This is a place where babies are hooked on drugs before they see the light of day. A land where doctors unnecessarily cut them out of their mother’s stomachs just to get more pay; then fathers run away. This is the Hidden Mist village of Kiragakure and this God-forsaken place was the home and birth place of Shinji Yanama, the humble rose which grew in a concrete jungle.
Shinji was raised without a father who was described as a selfish and uncaring individual who ran away at the discovery of his mother’s birth. Shinji was born out of perverse man’s lust and a forsaken woman. Shinji’s mother was a geisha by a twisted fate as her parents owed large sums of money and she was absolutely gorgeous. Shinji’s father was just another run-of-the-mill shinobi who wanted to have fun. His mother the most beautiful woman in the Hidden Mist just happened to be free that night and Shinji’s father had a lot of fun that night.
About a month later it would be found that Shinji’s mother was pregnant and since she was a Geisha a “miscarriage” was suggested. However, she refused to let such an event happen and fought to have the right to give birth to this child. In the end the owner of the brothel couldn’t have a pregnant Geisha, but didn’t want to lose her either. She was pampered so that Shinji could be born, but immediately after birth put back to work. She was still beautiful, but this child was to be raised in a brothel. He knew nothing, but the moans of woman and laughter of lustful men for his first three years, but his mother finally paid her debt off and moved them to the best place you could find in this damned village.
This place, however, would raise Shinji to become the person he is today and took an interesting turn on the young boy. Shinji’s mother was beautiful, intelligent, and compassionate. She had a strong sense of justice and cared for everyone. She gave shelter to abandoned children in the village while working odd-jobs and taking care of Shinji. Though busy and generous, she always found time for this lonesome boy who was slow to make friends. However, as time passed he had to learn how to survive when she was absent. He made friends with the abandoned and abused. Within his small neighborhood the group of forsaken children grew together and became a family. In this Shinji found love and comfort and since this group of children was so hopeful and pure they pursued wild dreams.
Shinji became well diversed in the world around him and he began to appreciate and cherish more of what he had as disease and violence began to kill his friends. By the time he was eight his entire crew had been taken by the streets and Shinji was alone, but intent on honoring them went off to the academy. He promised himself he’d live out the dreams they never had and represent their hopes to the fullest. He honors their deaths weekly at a hidden burial ground which is located shortly outside the village replacing the old dead roses with new barley living ones.
Shinji entered the academy soft and gentle in comparison to the cold and hardened ninja of his village. He was far behind their skill and never had the heart to severely hurt someone, however, he wished to honor his friends and knew he’d have to get stronger to travel the world and find the happiness they never received. He took a liking to combat and increased his speed greatly focusing mainly on Taijutsu while taking the time to study in his natural element. Two years later he’d find that his father was still alive and was a retired ninja that wandered the capital of Kiragakure. However, Shinji showed no interest in meeting him or learning his story or achievements.
Shinji would continue to train and attract many friends while at the academy. His loving demeanor was a jewel to the cold warriors called children. Shinji showed them love, but took a disliking to his teachers which imposed a cold and cruel way of life on them. They couldn’t be happy, they couldn’t smile, and they couldn’t be in love. However, during Shinji stay he found himself miserably attracted to a girl named Mai. He was madly in love with this girl, but was too shy to express his feelings. A year would pass and a colder and more lustful ninja, who was a year older her, would go on to date her. On night, however, they’d go on a date and the following morning she returned absent of the innocent and calm demeanor which once filled her. Shinji angered by the event spoke to Mai and was going to confront the boy, but she insisted he didn’t for his safety. She begged him so desperately that he wasn’t going to go against her word.
Shinji proceeded through the next few years of his life uneventful and regretful for what he failed to do. He continually blames himself for that night she went out; saying that if he would’ve confessed she might have went with him and not went through such a terrifying event. However, with the worst of his childhood behind him and his inspiration to help his friends he continues through life a fighting dreamer.
