Jim flopped Wright, his training mannequin, unceremoniously on the dusty earth. He was inside an enclosed training area outside of the Academy, in which he had taught a class on Bunshin just the day before.
After sitting down beside Wright, whose rubber limbs were in all sorts of uncomfortable angles, Jim flipped open the TaiJutsu encyclopedia to "Sugizou," the technique he wanted to learn.
"After-image... interesting, even though it's basic purpose is to increase my speed, it has some strategic side-effects that resemble Bunshin," Jim contemplated.
After studying the article for a few more minutes to get a handle on how to perform the Jutsu, Jim got up, dusted himself off, and decided that bringing Wright all the way out to the training grounds was a complete waste of time.
"I'm not even going to do any real fighting, yet," muttered Jim, shaking his head, "Eh. Oh well. Maybe I can use 'em as a punching bag later."
Shaking this off, Jim set his feet square and attempted to perform the Jutsu.
"Alright, chakra to my legs and feet..."
He could feel the tingling sensation and slight feeling of light-headedness that he now recognized as movement of chakra. Even though he had just become a Nin, Jim had been using chakra all his life without even knowing it. He had always been the fastest runner. When he fished with his brothers, he always seemed to cast in exactly the right spot. Whenever he jumped off of something, like the side of a wall, his feet always seemed to stick onto it for a fraction of a second longer.
It wasn't anything major, but now, everything was different. This was his job--to use chakra, and his life would soon depend on it.
Jim could feel his chakra's movement, but it was too slow. If he had attemped to initiate the technique in an actual field situation, it would have taken too long, and there'd be a kunai in his throat.
Jim growled like a pile of rocks were in his larynx, "Gonna' have to try that again."
Once again, Jim sent chakra to his legs and feet. It was focused and more precise, but still too slow. The process was familiar, now, though. He could now send his chakra there in nearly an instant, if he wanted to.
"Like your life depended on it, Jim. Get that chakra down first, then try running like the wind."
It was like a sudden rush of blood from the head, but Jim got his chakra down to his legs and feet in the speed he was aiming toward.
Trouble is, he fell over like a hobbling old man and was sprawled out on the ground next to Wright.
"Alright, let's try doing that without looking like an idiot."
After about thirty minutes, Jim managed to send chakra to his entire lower body in an instant without losing his footing, which would be critical--considering that he'd have to break into a dizzying run a half-moment later.
The hard part was over, and now all he had to do was repeat the process, but start running as soon as it ended.
With boy-like anticipation, Jim shot chakra into his lower body, cracked a grin, and ran like a jackrabbit.
Jims were all over the place: on opposite sides of the chain-linked fence, in circles on the ground, running over Wright, jumping through the air--it was like watching a kid who just discovered that candy would appear in his hand if he just thought about it.
Actually, a few of his students from class 3b were watching him train, and, not realizing who he was, were quite afraid. After staring at the cage, wide eyed, they hurriedly ran back to their homes.
From the outside of the enclosure, it looked like a sphere of huge black streaks with deep booming laughter emanating from the inside.
"This is so much fun!"
