Personality:
When one first meets John, he is hard to read. This is because he simply never speaks. Often appearing at a place of study, such as a library, there is no need for him to speak except to aides. These people are often dazed by his speaking, some even forgetting that he ever said a word to them. He has a very nondescript voice, but it has force. Almost all the time, he is able to get what he needs or desires. But one one looks a bit deeper, one discovers what John is really like. He is... about the same as he appears to be.Appearance:
After someone befriends John, he is indifferent. One of his favourite sayings is "Eh." When people come to him for advice, rarely does he give a straight (or even serious) answer. For example, for 3 years, his answer to all questions would be, "Ninja can not live on the lifeblood of chakra without blood and bread to return it." This merely adds to his cryptic facade; It is as often as mysterious as even silence is. Although he may only pretend to be as sage as he is, he is by no means unwise.
John's world traveling has given him many years of experience. Despite his low rank, children often consider him to be a sage. His powers in the art of persuasion have elevated him to a high pedestal for these kids. However, he is also a master of diplomacy. Not only can he appeal to the young children, he is also good friends with those both the same age and older. A small group of the old ones disprove of John, saying that his 'galivanting' around the world demotes village loyalty behind bold adventure.
John looks... normal. He is, for the most part, the most average person in the world, starting with his appearance. His hair is perfect, not too long and not too short. Wavy and brown, it is carefully combed every day. His eyes, like his hair, are brown. They are a relatively dull colour, making him appear slightly boring. His face is very forgettable as well. It is slightly tanned, but no more so than any other in the village. However, what few realize is that this appearance is very carefully cultivated. The look is solely to retain stealth. This allows John to stay unnoticed as he moves from place to place. When in other countries, none can seem to place when he arrived or when he left.Bloodlimit: Kaguya [Dead Bone Pulse]
Although it is next to impossible to appear nonchalant in the ninja world, John tries the best he can. Were he a Chuunin or Jounin, he would wear a standard shinobi vest. However, due to his travels, he is unable to wear the very plain jacket. Thus, his jacket has a little more... flair. John wears a white shirt to begin with, rather baggy on his lean frame. However, it is slightly padded by the protective mesh John wears beneath it, just in case he needs defense.
Since his completion of the Wing Growth technique (which also led to the destruction of most of his clothing), John has opted for a more... impressive style. Over the shirt, he wears a long trench coat, the tails falling to his ankles. The coat, black in colour, has fairly large slits in the shoulder blade area, made to allow the young man's wings to protrude. However, this coat is also built for function. Although it is often worn open, the covering is more than capable of concealing John's weaponry. He has placed two Tactical Harnesses into inside pockets of his coat. This baggage can quickly be removed should he require them.
John's pants and shoes are also more functional. Although his pants retain their appearance, they are custom-tailored for flexibility, an important aspect of flight and battle. These allow John to take off and land, as well as attack with his legs, much more quickly than they could previously. His shoes, still dark brown, are comfortable slip-ons, good for fast getaways.

Birth to Academy
John was born into a middle-class, relatively unknown family. Although they were part of the Kaguya, they tended to stay in the background, keeping to themselves. Thus, John Kaguya led a perfectly average existence. An normal birth time, a regular childhood. He was never schooled in the art of the clay techniques indigenous to his clan, although he did have several information scrolls. Through this, he devoured the theory of the arts, but never the practice.
John lived in a perfectly normal house. The abilities of his clan were so rarely mentioned that half the time John would forget they even existed. But little did everybody know, John yearned for something beyond his existence. It was his dream to go off on an adventure, or to use his incredible powers to help the world. However, any time he brought this up, he was told he was 'too young' to go on an adventure, or that his powers were 'too dangerous.' But still, he hoped. He hoped for every day until his entrance into the academy.
Academy to Exit
The second John stepped into the building, he was excited. Through windows into different rooms, he could see students transforming into other people, creating clones of themselves. He even saw one boy teleport across the room. Within moments, John could barely stand it. He was going to learn everything there was to know about all these techniques. However, his initial joy turned to sorrow; He learned how the Academy system worked.
Apparently, the children would begin with the basics: Throwing shuriken, molding chakra, and the like. John found this a bit like the theory he had read. It was there, but it didn't seem real. He couldn't think of a way that molding his chakra (a task, he assumed, that any baby would know how to do) could help him save anybody. The teacher tried to convince him that these techniques were important, that they would help him learn other things. But John wouldn't hear it.
He soon became disillusioned with the schooling. Eventually, he realized how rudimentary and boring school was. He was often punished for saying things like, "Are we really going to be doing this for 5 whole years?" His parents merely echoed what his teacher said, that these techniques were important. But for John, that was no longer the issue. After realizing how simple the chakra manipulation behind this technique was, he knew how to perform it.
He would Shunshin down to breakfast, use a clone to 'clean his room,' and when kids played tag, there would always mysteriously be a log where John was. John was moved to a higher class, but it was simply more of the same. At age 11, John quit. He knew that he wouldn't learn any more from the academy. He wanted to strike out on his own. He went to the Tsuchikage, and remarkably, he agreed. With a Jounin escort, John would travel the world, returning to give a report every few months. 2 weeks later, John left. He would not sleep in the village for any more than a week again for more than 10 years. Not wishing to associate himself with a family he considered weak, he took the unobtrusive surname Smurf, which it would be for the rest of his life.
Learning I - The Clans of Konoha
The very first place John wanted to go was Konoha. He had heard stories about the giant city, but he had never seen it before. Apparently it was 'too dangerous' to go to. However, they were not allowed in. Although the escort knew the location, he refused to bring him there. The enmity between Iwagakure and Konohagakure still stood. Thus, John instead chose to head to the Land of Fire, regardless. After several days of traveling through various villages, John found success.
There were indeed clan members outside of Konoha, those who knew the ways of the clans but preferred to live in the original settlements from before the creation of the village. Members of the Nara and Yamanaka Clans were both there. Although at first there was some fear that this was the start of a Stone invasion, the appearance of John, at the time still only 11 years old, eased their fears. John spent a grand total of 5 years learning from the two clans. He would spend 9 months out of the year with each clan, with the remaining 3 spent traveling to and from Iwagakure for the checkup. While there, John started a journal documenting his training, an idea that would carry over through all his training.
From the Nara Clan, he learned how to make calculations in the midst of battle, an important thing to know if one is using the Shadow technique. Although he had heard that the Naras were incredibly intelligent, he didn't realize how incredibly clever they were. It took almost one quarter of the time spent with the Nara for him to be able to think under pressure like that. He also learned about the way different shadows worked. This led him to deducing that he could use his foes' movements as well as that of the sun to harness shadow.
With the Yamanaka, his learning was slightly more laid back. However, he did do his share of work in his time there. However, after his study on the parts of the brain, things turned a little easier. Much of the time was spent looking at the different effects the Yamanaka techs on the human brain. Although he had some fun watching his escort be controlled, or something similar, he received his own share of it. Part of his training was to quickly deduce what jutsu he was being attacked with and how to counter it. And of course, the other children liked to mess around with him.
The one clan John was unable to be schooled in was the Li Clan. Although he hoped to learn the art of drawing from them, he was barred from learning from them due to a conflict of interest. Being a member of the Kaguya, he was considered a Phillistine by the Li, who thought of the bone dances as a feeble attempt at 'art.' John never attempted to train with the Li in any other area either. However, had he made an attempt, he would have learned that this sect was very xenophobic. In nearly any other place he would have been allowed to learn the techniques, and he now desires to learn them in Stone.
Learning II - Surgery
There was still one last clan in the village, however. At first, they were suspicious of the boy, him being a member of the Stone Village. Thus, to make sure he was sincere, he was kidnapped suddenly, having a blindfold placed over him. When it was taken off, he was in a darkened room. A voice asked if he would keep the techniques he would learn from the clan secret. After agreeing and signing a blood contract, the clan was revealed. John was now under the tutelage of the Aburame Clan.
John had always liked bugs: Their creepy-crawly ways, their silent scuttling, their deadly poisons. Thus, working with the kikaichu was easy. He befriended them instantly, and he showed talent in controlling them, although he didn't manage to perfect it. After another 2 years (give or take a few months) of learning, he was deemed prepared to undergo the surgery. Although it took him slightly longer than usual because he 'lacked the smell of kikaichu' on his body, the operation was a success. Although John still has the kikaichu inside of him, he has yet to read the scrolls given to him about kikaichu techniques by the Aburames.
Two weeks later, John (now 18 years of age) left the compound. Although he intends to return one day, he has yet to. The next place John desired to go was the Land of Thunder. His goal: the Tsubasa clan. He first returned home to rest, get supplies, and exchange escorts (as he did every time he returned), and report in with the Kage. Within a week, he was gone.
It was early morning when John once again set out from the village, this time heading east. Unfortunately, the group wasn't as easy to find. After reaching the country, he spent a few days searching along the ground, he finally reached an epiphany. If they're a bird clan, wouldn't they live in the mountains? Even so, it took the rest of the week to discover the location.
In a high-roofed cave in one of the tallest peaks on the continent lived a man known as the Tori Sennin (Bird Sage). At first, he refused to provide teaching to John. Only after John proved himself by making it from the bottom of the mountain to the top by jumping was he accepted. He expected to have the ritual of Talon and Feather performed on him immediately, followed by training. However, this turned out not to be so. The Bird Sage was less interested in the application of techniques and more in the basics.
Naturally, this angered John. Having left the village because of the constant repetition of the basics, he initially refused this style of teaching. However, the Bird Sage convinced him that it was the best way to go. Well, not so much convinced as almost killed with bird techniques. By the end of the fight, John's back was scarred with talon strikes, and his ears were ringing from the loud battle screeches. From there, it was studying.
Apparently, there was a lot John needed to know about birds. The very first thing he learned is that there were almost 50 species of falcon. The second through one-hundred eighty-seventh things he learned were their names, diets, and assorted trivia. From there, it was the bones of a bird. Finally, he was taught the mechanics of flight. Three years were spent learning these facts and committing them to memory. Three years of torture.
Finally, John was blindfolded one day. The next thing he knew, he was in the arms of his master, flying to the main Tsubasa encampment. All was already prepared. The bird, the clansman, everything. Within moments, John was under natural anesthesia. Apparently it was quite a shock when kikachu began flying out of the small holes in his back. However, other then that, the Ritual of Talon and Feather was complete. Sadly, John could not stay. His time was running out, and the Tori Sennin informed that he accepted an apprentice for only 5 years at a time. Turning around, John saw a young boy, clearly from the Tsubasa clan, anxious for tutelage. Nodding, he left the next morning. But he would return.
Learning III - A Brief Interlude
With a few weeks remaining until his tri-monthly checkup, there were still a pair of clans that John wanted to learn from: the Hanakora and the Kumomusha. He first went with his escort to try and find the Hanakora clan. The legends said that the group lived in Kusa no Kuni, and that is where they went. By now, John was growing a bit tired of this life on the road, constantly searching for the next clan.
Beating his previous record, John found a Hanakora member within a single day. And here came his only piece of good luck he had had in 9 years: the sensei was also a Kumomusha. Being peaceful by nature, the woman was more than happy to train him in the art of the flowers. There was no fighting, no studying. There was only peace.
Unlike the others, all John had to learn here was gardening. Yes, like the other areas, he studied scrolls and kept them safe for future training. But most of his work was not in that area. He learned how to cultivate a plant. He learned which seed would grow which flower. He learned to be peaceful. Sadly, this would not last. In only a few weeks, John was forced to leave. Thanking the woman greatly for her time, he left with a set of Hanakora and Kumomusha scrolls. He has not gone to any clan member outside of his own family since.
Homecoming
"No, no more. I'm going home..." These were the words spoken by John after his period with the Hanakora. Just why he left was unknown. Whether it was a feeling that he had reached his peak, or a yearning for peace after living with the Hanakora, he had to leave. His return was marked by little fanfare a few weeks later. This was not the boy that had left Iwagakure those years ago. This man was world weary, a warrior. He was also an Academy Student.
John spent all of 2 hours in the Academy, passing with a perfect score. By now, he was unused to a headband, and often keeps it stuffed in his pocket, the metal barely visible. Since that day, he has kept mostly to himself. With more than 50 scrolls, he wishes to spend his time learning all of the techniques listed on them. He has even received several scrolls from his own family, now respecting his adventurous nature.
John spent a year or so improving many aspects of his abilities, most notably. During this time he also earned money by performing surgery on others. Now he simply roams the land as he previously did, occasionally taking missions. He is in no rush to become a Chuunin, so he lives a generally carefree life. He simply trains to master each clan in his repertoire. What will become of him? Who knows?
