Name: The Secret of the Ancients
Rank: C
Plot:
Look out upon the world as you see it today, from the safety of your buildings and from behind the great advancement of today’s inventions. But many thousands of years ago, the world was a very different place. Before the Wind Country was covered in desert and before the Earth Country was a barren and rocky place, when the world was young; the entire world was covered in a great jungle.
In this huge jungle that covered the entire world their lived a group of people, a civilization that for all of its barbarism was not very unlike ours. These people were very intelligent and advanced, they had a system of running water, their very own forms of entertainment, and they had a form of government that is very similar to the rule of Daimyo and Kage.
These people had much advancement, and their civilization was very much like ours. But their one weakness was an overt sense of religion. These people told stories of great and powerful gods that were to be feared and worshiped without question rather than respected and followed. These people were led by a King and a High Priest, the King was the lawgiver and the one who waged war; while the High Priest was the person who oversaw worship and religion in the kingdom.
The Priests of the Gods, and their leader, the High Priest, ruled from behind the scenes. These were very old and sour men who took advantage of every single king by claiming that if the King did not give the Priests enough money to sate their greed they would call down the Gods to smite the King. This process of the Priests taking advantage of and ruling the kings from behind the scenes went on until something strange happened.
This huge civilization, with its great walls and huge temples, with its immense number of people, and all of its advancements suddenly and without reason, disappeared. Well this is not true; it was not abruptly erased from the face of this earth. The civilization just simply started to die out, its Kings lost power and its great golden cities started to fall into disrepair, some reports suggest that roving bands of harriers started killing and pillaging across the land.
The last great hurrah of this civilization was about two thousand years ago when their last great King tried to save the Empire. The meager reports from that time period imply that the Priests found something so harrowing that this savior King decided to kill himself and advised everyone in the great capitol city to do the same. A great number of people committed suicide, but there were a few people who left in a mass exodus for far away lands.
Some people even stayed in the general area, and their ancestors live today, but soon after the vast Ritual Suicide the Capitol City was in fact lost to the world. This is why we have such meager reports about that time period; all of the Archeological evidence has been lost with the great Capitol City. Scientists and adventurers have been looking for the lost treasure of these people but to no avail, it has been lost in time.
Now you may be asking yourself, why must one know this? Why would a regular person want to know about a Civilization thousands of years ago that died out because they were not strong enough to survive? Well, the passing of this Civilization has everything to do with you, and the rest of humanity itself.
You see, one month ago in the middle of the Waterfall Country, a gigantic temple was suddenly found by a group of cow herders. These people found the temple when the mists of a large waterfall basin suddenly cleared. The temple is on an island in the exact middle of the lake, with the Waterfall behind it. These cow herders reported this story to the Daimyo who sent a team of his top researchers to the site.
They spent a week traveling to the temple, traversing the lake, and doing research inside the temple. Of the team of ten men and women, only one person came out of the Temple. This was a young woman, daughter to the lead researcher. She had gone crazy during the Mission; apparently she and the rest of the team had happened upon the same disturbing find that the Priests had found so many hundreds of years ago.
All she could mutter when she was found was this. “Its over. Its over. The world is over.”
The Waterfall Kage was quickly informed and was ordered by the Daimyo to send a team of his top ninja to explore the Temple, find the Research Team and find out why drove the young woman crazy. Of course, news of a huge temple suddenly being found could not be kept under wraps, and now almost the entire world has found out about it. Although the story of the Research Team and the Crazy Woman has luckily been kept secret to all but the top brass of the Waterfall Country.
Other nations have all been clamoring to send their very own team to the Temple to stake the first claim on the discovery of the Temple, along with finding whatever treasures lay inside.
Now its a Race to the Temple, for the Waterfall Ninja to rescue the Team, and for others to claim what treasure they can find.
