The Moon Chuunin Exams [Travel]

The gates quickly faded behind him as he headed north, heading for the the port. A port he had seen many times. The rocky terrain had changed little since his last trip North. It seemed time could care less about the rocks.

The beating sun shone bright, not a cloud in the sky. A promising sign for the boat ride, though torture for now as sweat beaded on his head. As he ran he removed the headband, tying it around his upper left arm. Like the last exams, he was not one to easily betray what village he belonged too.

His prior attempts had ended in failure and the less who knew it was him, the better. The terrain passed by quickly as he thought through his journey.

Before he knew it the port was in sight, a mass of sails ready to be unfurled to the wind. The sea air smelled nice though boats themselves rocked too much for his taste. Boat after boat, none seemed to be heading for the Snow country.

Finally, the next to last boat had a sign signaling snow country. The gang plank got pulled into the ship before he made, forcing Aaron to call out, "Permission to Board for travel to snow?"

"Aye lad," a midshipman called out. "If you can get on board. We're not stopping."

Aaron took a big breath, lined up his sights and jumped like only a ninja could jump, landing on deck. Straightening up, Aaron nonchantly added, "Thanks mate." Aaron ignored the jaw drops, pleased that he made a good impression.

The voyage remained surprisingly uneventful and before he knew it he had made it to the snow port. The usual rockiness of the board avoided, Aaron had not gotten seasick for once.

The arctic chill bit into him as Aaron peered at the snow covered harbor. Had he not delayed in his departure, he could have found a boat to the somewhat warmer land of lightning. But he did not have time for that now. He needed to be in Moon and soon.

Consulting with several natives, Aaron found out the quickest way to the other coast. Directions in hand, Aaron stopped at a restaurant to eat and rest for his journey would be arduous. Fortunately, the weathermen predicted no storms.

Step after step Aaron took, the port fell further behind. Soon snow covered hills and evergreens were all the eye could see. It always amazed him how different the environments could be. From barren rock and extreme heat to freezing cold and soft snow. The road had been cleared so he could follow his way quickly, determined to make it to the other port before nightfall.

The journey went smoothly until he hit an non plowed section of road. It seemed there had been an accident and the pathway would remain blocked. It slowed his movements, but Aaron quickly managed an alternative. Rather than risk sinking beneath snow drifts to the port, he used chakra to keep himself afloat. A true testament of skill given the varying levels and density of snow he encountered.

Still, the delay cost longer than he thought so that by the time he arrived in the port, only a few ships remained. A raggy looking sloop stood at the ready, a sign welcoming people to the Moon Country. Aaron eyed the ship carefullly, disliking what he would experience.

Boarding, his fears were confirmed. The captain, a towering figure of toughness, wore an eye patch and barked orders. He seemed more pirate than transport vessel. Still, he could not complain at least he could get a lift to the Chuunin Exams.

A horn sounded a while later and the ship set off across choppy seas. Pinching his wrists, Aaron tried to fight off the motion sickness. The ship sailed close to the coast, traveling through the various lands. The snow covered hills and evergreens gave way to thawed forests of deciduous glory. Cliffs and towering peaks marked the various coasts as the ship sailed onward.

Several sailors sand a haunted tune as the ship passed away from the coast and into the open ocean. A tale of love and loss. The journey of the sea. Time took forever to pass, storm clouds off the horizon causing a detour. Yet no pirates or storms waylaid the ship as they finally arrived in Moon.

A miracle that Aaron had only lost his lunch 3 times on a one day boat ride, he could not believe the crescent land he saw. It surprised him by its shape. Perhaps that's why it was called the Land of Moon.
