Personality:
Artemis is a hot-blooded girl of fifteen years. She would often skip class to fight in the arena, preferring to test her strength than to learn rudimentary skills. The skill with which she defeated her opponents earned her the nickname of "The Heavenly Huntress", though some of her opponents referred to her as a battle freak.Appearance:
Being an attention seeker and a troublemaker at times, Artemis can be prideful, rowdy, and will often do things that most people would find strange if not absurd (E.G. Using Jyuuken on a teacher who won't get off her case for coming in late).
When alone or with very close friends, Artemis is a completely different person. She calms down out of her normal hot-blooded nature, taking on a much more serene demeanor. It is during these times that she shows an ability that she developed for her own amusement—Artemis is capable of playing the harp.
Over the last few months, her personality has shifted. While she hasn't lost that hot-blooded side to her (and isn't likely to), she's become more responsible and caring towards others. On a not so bright note, she has developed a heightened hatred of perverts due to having to capture one twice, and will not react favorably at all to any such comments or actions.
As of late, she has found herself incapable of the Jyuuken style she once employed. Surprisingly, it doesn't bother her much, rather freeing her from the distractions of combat in order to focus on her medical studies. She's still none too fond of her Hyuuga heritage, and the only traits that give her away now are the ones she cannot get rid of; namely, her eyes and the branch seal.
Another two years have passed, and Artemis has changed almost entirely. While she's STILL fairly hot-blooded, she's become a much kinder and more mature woman in general. Her hatred of perverts has also dissolved after an unfortunate realization that she had become a bit of one herself. The Byakugan is the ultimate voyeur's tool, after all...
Artemis possesses the characteristic white eyes of the Hyuuga, but that is where the similarities end. Her windswept-looking hair is a crimson red, only going down to her shoulders. Combined with the bulging veins when the Byakugan is active, she can end up looking somewhat like a demoness.
Artemis wears her Leaf headband in its rightful place to conceal a scar she recieved some years ago from an arena fight. The scar itself is a vertical slash mark about four inches long, right in the center of her forehead. It's not completely concealed by the headband, as it extends down to the bridge of her nose. She's ashamed of this scar because it completely shattered the already tense relationship with her father.
She wears a white shirt with green trim around the edges and a ribbon right below the neckline—coupled with her sapphire blue skirt, it gives her a schoolgirl-esque appearance. As a contrast, she once wore the sheath of her claymore, Incolumis, sideways across her back, a hard aspect of a soft appearance.
Her choice of clothing has shifted slightly, from the cheerful whites, blues, and greens to a more serious red. The intense crimson has also faded from her hair slightly, and the length of her hair has shifted from shoulder length toward waist-length. She's not trying to show off for anyone, it's just the natural path her personality has forced her to take.
Another two years has changed her a bit more. Almost-adulthood has been...generous, for lack of a better word, and she's found a few ways to deal with what she doesn't particularly appreciate about how she looks. Herbal medicines have dealt with the scar on her forehead, and while she can never truly hide the Byakugan, she's mostly come to terms with that fact. This doesn't seem to stop her from using tinted lenses now and then, though...

Bloodlimit: Byakugan — Hyuuga; Branch Member
History:
Born into the Branch House of the Hyuuga clan as Hyuuga Akane, she was the daughter of a Konoha medic and a Hyuuga clansman so skilled in both Jyuuken and sword arts that he was known as "Shiorashii Tsurugi". As a branch member, she had the seal branded on her forehead at the age of three, though she did not know its significance at the time.
She learned quickly. The seal set her apart, like so many others, from the Main House of the Hyuuga clan. Discriminated against, abused, treated like trash--it was too much. To make matters worse, her red hair set her apart from all other Hyuuga, apart from everyone...she was seen as the most tainted of the bloodline.
Eight years later...
"Late again, Demon Girl!"
Akane had developed a tendency to be late to her academy classes, as the teacher was especially cruel towards her. Today happened to be even worse than the rest.
"I truly do feel sorry for the Hyuuga clan," The teacher started saying while writing something on the chalkboard, "That they have to deal with such devils..." He shot a malignant glance at Akane.
Akane snapped. She jumped up out of her seat and walked over to the teacher, eyes lowered. The teacher, still mocking her, continued. "Heh. How cute, the little demon girl has something to say--!" He didn't finish his sentence. Akane glared at the teacher. Indeed, her appearance at that moment could be described as demonic, so intense was her hatred--she was glaring at him through the white eyes of the Byakugan.
She was enraged. "If it's demons you seek, then turn your gaze within, you MORON!" This was followed by a burst of blue chakra that doubled the teacher over in pain. "Maybe you should be careful what you wish for, "Sensei". Ever hear the old superstition of how a slayer of a thousand demons becomes one themself?"
Another burst of blue chakra to the stomach. "For three years you have slain my confidence, my self-esteem, everything that defines who I am. Now look what has become of you. 'Slayer of a thousand demons', you have become one." Her monologue ended, Akane turned and walked out of the room.
...of course, it wasn't going to be that easy. Akane ended up in detention for attacking a teacher. There, she would meet someone who would become her best friend in the years to come.
"Oops, sorry!" A blue-haired girl, about Akane's age, had accidentally bumped into her. "Didn't see you there!" Taking a closer look, the girl noted with interest, "Hey, you're that girl that everyone's talking about...!" She stopped mid-sentence, as Akane was still annoyed and didn't need anyone else calling her a demon. "Hey, hey, don't hurt me! I wasn't going to say what you thought I would!"
Akane lowered her hands. "Sorry. One too many idiots calling me a demon today." She tilted her head slightly, giving the girl an inquisitive look. "Who are you, anyway?" The girl stepped back, and a distinct crackling sound was heard. "Lilith, born Hyuuga Ren. I already know who you are...Hyuuga Akane."
Akane was confused. "Wait, you changed your name?" Lilith laughed. "I'm still Ren officially. Lilith is just an alias, a name I prefer to be called..." She seemed to think she had said too much, as she quickly changed the subject. "So what'd you do to get detention?"
Throwing caution to the winds, Akane smirked. "Beat the crap out of a teacher who's been discriminating against me for three years. What about you?" Lilith chuckled. "Caught skipping class to go work as a medic at the arena. I'd rather do something useful than sit here listening about chakra for the millionth time in a row. Speaking of the arena..."
"...you wouldn't be interested in coming with me to see it for yourself, would you?" Akane smiled. "Not like I have anything else to do, so why not?"
Three years later (age 14), at the arena...
Akane had established a name for herself in the arena, choosing to have become a fighter after observing a few matches on her first visit with Lilith. In the arena, she was no longer Akane. Like Ren, she had taken on an alias: Artemis, the Heavenly Huntress.
She had graduated from the academy (a year late), and was making a decent living as a "professional" arena fighter when the incident happened.
"Another one down, who's next?" Artemis (for she had discarded her old name in the arena) was feeling pretty good about herself--almost high on her own power. "Anyone?"
A stranger dressed in a white robe snickered. "Heh. Confident, aren't you? I suppose it's time someone finally put you in your place." The stranger leaped out of the stands into the arena, quickly drawing a thin sword. "En garde, little girl!"
"Little girl yourself," Artemis was amused at the nerve of this person. "Judging by your voice, you're a girl no older than me!" She glanced at the sword. "You really think that kitchen knife's gonna help you? You're even more naive than I thought!"
The stranger smirked. "Don't count me out just yet. Hah!" She struck at a frenzied speed, narrowly missing Artemis a few times. "Draw your sword, girl! You can't beat me with just your hands!" Artemis laughed. "That's even crazier! Your sword would snap if it hit mine! But since you insist..." She drew the claymore that she had custom-made from its sheath. "I'll show you my skill. My sword, Incolumis, shall be the judge of that!"
"Perfect." The stranger seemed pleased. "I suppose there's no use in hiding my identity any longer." Throwing off her robe, the stranger took on a new appearance--a young girl, dressed in a loose blue kimono, with green eyes and light brown hair. She pointed her sword at Artemis, turning it slowly. "Terralex, Iris. And now, your time is over! Hyah!"
The two clashed, trading heavy blows, and once more Artemis gave ground. "How...your sword's so slim, it should have broken by now! Why hasn't it broken?!" Iris smirked. "Heh. Now do you see the difference in our skill? DIE!" She sheathed her sword, then quickly drew it again, slamming Artemis in the stomach. "It's over!"
Just then Iris froze. "Damn it, sister! Why are you interfering?" It almost seemed as if she had gone crazy. "Spare her? Why?" Yeah, she's crazy. "You're wrong! I'll show her the meaning of fear, what I had to suffer all these years ago!" A resonating, different voice came out of nowhere. "Very well, then. I shall lend you my power." Iris twirled her sword before slamming it into the earth. Out of the dust cloud, a second figure appeared.
Once more, the new figure seemed to be reminiscent of the other's appearance, wearing a ribbon in her amber-colored hair. "Two on one, sis? It's hardly fair." The new figure noticed Artemis, and pulled the ribbon out of her hair, forming it into the crosshilt of a sword. Pointing the sword at Artemis as the other had done, the figure looked at Artemis in a more sympathetic manner than her counterpart.
"Terralex, Selene. I apologize for my sister's rough behavior, she really needs to learn some self-control now and then..." Iris seemed ticked off by the remark, retorting with "Well, excuse me if I'm not the one who gets drunk on a drop of alcohol, that's the entire reason we're in here in the first place! You just HAD to wreck the place, didn't you?"
Artemis sighed. "You two really need to work on your teamwork." Both of the girls turned towards Artemis, speaking in perfect unison. "Oh, you doubt our teamwork, do you? We'll show you!" The duo then proceeded into a flurry of slashes that Artemis wasn't entirely able to block.
"Heh." Selene was confident. "About time for Psyche Scindo, sis?" Whatever Psyche Scindo was, Iris nodded. "You open the combo, I'm the one with the sword!" Selene responded quickly. "As you wish!" She struck a sideways blow, forcing Artemis to parry on the outside. She then did a quick flick of the wrist and brought her blade to the inside, shoving Artemis's claymore away.
"NOW!" Iris rushed in and gave a hard upward slash at Artemis's head, drawing blood as it passed her forehead. "Psyche Scindo, the splitter of one's true self--it's about time you feel my pain!" Iris began the slash down, but was abruptly stopped...
...by someone's bandaged hand. "I would advise that you two step back as far as possible. I can see you within the Hakke, and remaining there will spell your doom." The two swordmaidens backed up, knowing full well what would happen if they didn't. "Fighting two on one is playing dirty, and you KNOW how I am about that."
Artemis was relieved, yet annoyed at the same time. "Slow as always, Lilith! You just HAD to try and be a hero, didn't you?" Lilith chuckled. "Hey, be glad I decided to intervene at all. You'd be dead if I hadn't done that." Artemis grinned. "True. Thanks."
Lilith turned to Selene and Iris, speaking almost as if with malice in her voice. "Didn't I tell you? I just became a sword collector. I think I'll start off my collection with the Psyche Scindo and the Draconic Edge!" She whispered to Artemis. "If you can keep one of them occupied, I'll take the other one out. Don't doubt my strength, even though I'm a medic!"
Artemis nodded. "You two started off well..." Grasping her claymore once more, she ran at Selene. "...but it's our turn to show you teamwork! It's about time for the Akane Renge, the Crimson Lotus!"
Selene was confused. "The hell is the Akane Renge? She's just swinging wildly!" She then noticed that Iris was engaged in combat with Lilith and had been quickly disarmed by a swift kick to her sword hand. "It's over. You're in range of the Hakke Divination Field. It's about time you practice what you preach, or some nonsensical saying like that."
"Gentle Fist Art: Eight Trigrams, Sixty-Four Palms!" Quickly spinning on her right foot, Lilith delivered two quick stabs at Iris's stomach. "Two palms!" Another two, this time higher up. "Four palms!" Four more, spread around the upper body. "Eight palms!" Eight more strikes hit as Lilith's hands moved faster and faster. "Sixteen palms!" Another flurry; Iris was definitely cringing now. "Thirty-two palms!" Selene tried to charge at Lilith, but Artemis blocked her way. "SIXTY-FOUR PALMS!" Just to add a little cruelty, Lilith decided to kick Iris after the last of the 64 "palms" had landed.
Selene was ticked off, to say the least. "Geez, not only did you give her the finger, you gave her the boot! And I thought you were a medic!" Lilith, suddenly realizing the possible implications of what had just been said, turned a shade of deep red. "Er, ah, um...that's awfully harsh, the way you phrased it..." Selene laughed. "It's only fitting after what you did to my sister!"
She sighed. "But...if we can't beat you two on two, fighting one on two just isn't going to work. I surrender, I'm outta here." She walked over and picked up her sister, carrying her on her back. "C'mon, let's go home, Iris..." She looked over her shoulder at the pair. "One last question. What IS the Akane Renge?"
Artemis looked down. "It's a fancy name for me being a distraction while my friend here beats the crap out of them. It's an underhanded tactic...!" Finally realizing something, Artemis spun around and smacked Lilith upside the head with the flat side of the blade. "Hypocrite, complaining about playing dirty."
Lilith, half stunned and half concerned, pointed at Artemis's forehead. "Um, Artemis? I hope you realize your forehead's still bleeding..." Artemis, finally noticing after all this time, placed her hand on her forehead and was horrified to see her hand come away drenched in blood. "Oh no, this is bad...Lilith, how long has it been like this?"
Lilith shrugged. "About since I got here. What I'm wondering is how you're still conscious after losing that much blood..." Artemis promptly smacked her upside the head with the flat of the blade again. "Owww! What was that for?! I'm concerned about you, and you have to hit me with the blade? What's wrong with you?"
"Hey, you're the one telling me I'm supposed to pass out!" Artemis managed a weak chuckle. "That was one crazy fight, huh? Ahaha--ouch...aw crud." Artemis facepalmed with her right hand, sending a jolt of pain coursing through her body. "Father's gonna kill me for this..." she muttered, staring at her now-bloody hand.
Age 14 to now, a collection of letters...
Hey, Artemis!
Haven't heard from you in a while. My sister and I have been doing well the last year. How have things been on your end?
I met up with Dark, he's a Tatsujin of the Protegra sword style. I've been training since that day, though I can't say it's been easy. Dark's such a skirt chaser! I had to knock him on the head a few times because he wouldn't stop staring!
Iris is right, I can't hold my liquor. You remember her saying that during the match? It's true. To be honest, she can't either. Guess we ought to give Suiken (Drunken Fist) a try, don't you think?
Come see us in the Land of Snow sometime? It's a beautiful place, I'm sure you'd like it.
-Selene
Artemis chuckled. "A skirt chaser for a teacher, huh...lucky."
Selene,
Things have been relatively quiet lately. My dad went insane when he learned about the scar your sister gave me, in addition to my sneaking off during class, but he didn't stay mad for too long. He's still disappointed with me, but at least he's not going to be too angry any more.
A skirt chaser for a teacher, huh? Better than what I had at the academy. It's not fun being a "teacher's voodoo doll", if you get the analogy. Perhaps you could introduce me to this Dark fellow someday? I'm eager to learn some sword arts.
Speaking of the Drunken Fist, it seems I 'm just like you two: we found out at the celebration following the duel between the four of us. Lilith also gets drunk easily, so we're a foursome on that. Judging from what I've heard of Drunken Fist, it would be funny to see either of you use that style. Feel free to "learn" it if you think it'll help.
Land of Snow, huh? Sounds nice. I'll come visit you two someday. Maybe you two could come visit us in the Land of Leaf again, if conditions allow. Until then, stay healthy!
-Artemis
Greetings, Artemis.
I should probably tell you about the two of us. There's a medical condition known as DID, or Disassociative Identity Disorder, in which a person has several distinct personalities. These personalities were created to shut off an extremely bad memory, usually abuse of some sort at the hands of a trusted one.
Selene is the result of such an incident. I was nearly murdered by an elderly ninja that I had trusted with my life at the age of nine. I was lost, alone in an unfamiliar world--an orphan in the Land of Snow. The old man offered to take care of me, but it was all a ploy...
Normally, those possessing DID can only display one personality at a time with an appropriate change in appearance if they have sufficient studies concerning alter egos. Selene and I are a special case, though...the old man's sword was none other than the Psyche Scindo, the splitter of one's psyche.
...Selene is merely a genetic clone of me, containing half the soul that was split. I still think of her as my sister. We share that special sibling bond that you'd find with any two siblings--well, not ANY two, I know some exceptions, but you get the idea.
Recently we left the Land of Snow. The old man tried to kill us again, so we fled to the Land of Leaf, the only place we knew we could find friends. Looks like we'll be seeing you again soon.
-Iris
Artemis was shocked. "Well, that's a surprise..."
Iris,
Wow. Never would have expected that was the story between the two of you...it's not a very common story. At least now I know where you got that sword from. Why were you trying to use it on me, though?
Yeah, I know what you mean by "unofficial siblings". Lilith and I feel the same way. What's with the genocidal old man, though? Maybe he's just some psychotic masochist? Who knows?
Preperations have already been made to recieve you two: Lilith's very persuasive with those things. You'll have to abide by village rules, but other than that, welcome back!
-Artemis
Hey, Akane!
Ren here. May as well drop the title, we got banned from the arena after that incident. We haven't been in touch since you left to begin your training. Things are going well here, Iris and Selene are growing accustomed to life here in Konoha. The three of us did some research on special clan techniques, and we think you might be interested in what we found.
Ren's notes:
Hoshigake, the human sharks, use a series of brute-force techniques to grind foes into the ground. Problem is, the way the ritual works, there's a great deal of restrictions, not to mention it sounds painful...
You always had trouble with ninjutsu, and on top of that, when they tested for chakra elements, you were a Raiton type. Hoshikage must be Suiton due to the nature of a shark. It's a strange clan, but it's nothing to be concerned about--not for any of us.
Inuzuka, the House of Dogs, specializes in tag-team combat with a canine companion. There are few restrictions, merely that you must have a canine animal companion, and cats are permenantly off-limits as partners once you're part of the clan. The Inuzuka clan grants powerful slashing-type hand-to-hand Taijutsu skills, so that may appeal to you. I'm a cat person myself, though.
The Nara clan, users of shadow. I couldn't find anything that would obstruct your chance to learn their art if you wanted to, other than having to find a Nara willing to teach you. While the techniques are somewhat conditional in terms of when they can be used effectively, Nara clan techs can be extremely potent in their effects--the famous Shadow Possession is just one of them.
Yamanaka, the Mind clan. When it comes to espionage and infiltration, the Yamanaka are unmatched. Able to affect the soul, Yamanaka techniques allow the user to use their soul as a sort of scout or enter another person's body and control it. Most of these techniques leave their real body vulnerable, however, so don't use them in a one-on-one match.
Selene's notes:
The Akimichi clan specializes in powerful "knockout-punch" Taijutsu, though there's a few requirements. First, an Akimichi is banned from most transformation clan rituals or bloodlimits. Second, they won't teach Akimichi techs to skinny people like us: the techniques just won't work. If Iris keeps her recent drinking habits up, though, she might have a shot at it (don't tell her I said that, she'll kill me).
There's also the Tricolor Pills, a series of pills that burn fat to create chakra. Medics can be taught how to make and use them, but it would be suicide for anyone but an Akimichi to actually eat these pills--people like us don't have any fat to burn!
Enough about that clan, if I stay on the subject any longer, I'm bound to write something else that Iris is gonna kill me for. The Aburame clan uses Kikaichu, Parasitic Destruction Beetles, to fight. These bugs devour the chakra of their opponents, but they also feast on the user's chakra. Thankfully, this clan is a birthright-only clan...I wouldn't want to suffer through a ritual involving getting holes drilled in me!
The Li clan, able to bring their drawings to life. Fundamentally, it's a forbidden clan, and even then, it all loops back to that Suiton element that Ren told me you have problems with. My chakra is Fuuton-based, by the way. Ren had us do the chakra paper test.
Don't even make me bring up Hyoushi. You can't beatbox with a harp.
Iris's notes:
Kumomusha, the Spider Warrior clan. They have a ritual that grants the affected an extra four arms so they have eight limbs like a spider. They're long-range specialists, bow and arrow, kunai, and the like. I've heard there was a Hyuuga who took this path before, but I'd personally advise you not to take this path. Yes, they make great archers, but that doesn't really suit your style, now, does it?
Hanakora, Flower Children. Their skill with flowers is formidable, their skill with wood and fire equally so. Unfortunately, the same problem that Ren and Selene mentioned arises. You're not a Suiton user, therefore the ability of Mokuton, or wood, is beyond you.
Kamizuru, the bee clan. Another bugmaster clan, they control bees instead of beetles. The ritual is a bit scary, in my opinion: they need to open you up and turn you into a living beehive! The fighting style is equally strange, there's a lot of honey, wax, and stinging. I've always been creeped out by bugmasters...
There was another sheet of paper attached to the back of Iris's notes.
A lot of things have happened lately. Iris has been trying to "learn" Drunken Fist, Selene probably slipped something about that into her notes. It's a bit strange, considering who's normally the sensible one (Don't tell either of them I said that, they'll both kill me...).
A strange coincidence happened not too long before I wrote this letter. I was out gathering herbs with Selene when we found this little girl all alone in the forest. When I say little, I mean she was about nine years old, by my guess. I walk over to her, and horns suddenly sprout out of her head!
I tried talking to the girl, but she wouldn't respond. Selene had a lot better luck than I did with that. The girl's name, it seemed, was Yue. Kaguya Yue. So what's the coincidence?
...Yue looks a lot like you. I mean A LOT like you, moreso than the similarities between you and any of us. Aside from her hair being jet black, her eyes the same, and her preferred attire being a leaf-green kimono, she looks almost exactly like you did when I first met you.
Personality-wise, Yue's different from all of us. She's quiet, shy, for the most part a loner, though she opens up to Selene for some reason. I wonder how she'd react if she met you?
She's a Konoha Genin, appearantly--four years ahead of you--so we could bring her into the village without worry. She needed medical treatment, appearantly it's something to do with toxic calcium buildups, Kaguya issues. Ask Iris or Selene, they'd know more about the subject than I do.
Looking forward to seeing you return from training after three months. We all are. Well, Yue I can't really tell, but we'll just have to see, hm?
-Ren
Lilith.
Don't discard your alias. It's a sign that you refuse to be bound by destiny, a sign that you carve your own path. I refuse to go back to my old name, to so many bad memories. I am Artemis. No more am I Akane, and you shouldn't settle for Ren unless you'd prefer to be called that. You seemed pretty indifferent last time I saw you.
I read the information you three gathered. Selene made me laugh at one point. Has Iris really been getting drunk a lot lately? It just seems so unlike her--so unlike any of us.
Kaguya Yue...she sounds like a nice girl. I hope I can meet her when I return. I'm not a seer of the future, but in three or four years, Yue might be glad for the bloodlimit she has. You know what I mean by that, right?
It'll feel good to be back after three months absence. I'll see you soon.
