Character Depth
Personality:
Ayame is quite selective about whom she chooses to bring into her inner circle; to everyone else, the 'strangers,' she reacts harshly, and coldly. It is not because she is fixated on the idea of being 'elite,' but simply because she dislikes strangers. However, once she does take someone into her confidence, she is infinitely more bright around them, laughing and smiling easily. She values her friends greatly, for they are few and far in between. She is apathetic to most others, more likely to ignore someone being beaten up than to even spare them a second glance.
Though Ayame rarely pledges her loyalty to anyone or anything, once she does, nothing can waver that promise. She's a rather obstinate person, though, becoming easily fixated on an idea and rarely relinquishing a hold on it. She is fiercely loyal, through and through, to those she deem it proper. However, she understands that duty comes before personal attachments; if her duty requires it, she is ready to murder even one of her friends. After all, she understands that it is a ninja's life she lives first.
Ayame rarely rushes into a fight first, more likely to stand back and watch for a few moments than to run with the front lines. She knows that she is physically weaker than most, and in a fight of pure fists and power, she is sure to lose; as such, Ayame tries to avoid frontal confrontation. Since she was young, she has always been thinking, every moment of her life; it began as simple curiosity, really. She's always thinking, what this action would lead to, what would then happen, would this make any difference; as such, over the years, she's become rather adept at being able to predict what someone might do to an extent (given, the person isn't insane/eccentric; and being able to predict it doesn't mean she necessarily understands it). As such, if something occurs in discordance with her 'plans' (as she is always planning three, four steps ahead, be it casual or in the heat of a battle), she is likely to grow extremely irritated.
Although Ayame shows off a harsh, apathetic demeanor to most, the ones who know her well know much better. Her personality is much like a petulant, spoiled child, who has been granted everything from birth. Her irritation comes easily and irrationally, and she's more likely to attempt to destroy an entire city rather than the head of the village. Once she gets riled up, its nearly impossible to placate her, and strangers best steer clear of her then.
Appearance:
Ayame looks, physically, like a ten-year old child; she can be easily mistaken for a runaway doll from the display of a lovely antique store. She has a very small stature, never having quite hitting her growth spurt in her teenage years. Ayame has porcelain skin and delicate features, and thin, fragile-appearing limbs and hands.
Her small, heart-shaped face looks even smaller when framed by her mass of blond hair; her hair falls to her elbows in a halo of gently-curling waves. She has large, child-like, curious gray orbs, and a mouth that is almost always curved slightly upwards in a 'barely-there' smirk. Ayame often wraps a lock of her hair and brings it to her lips, and is almost always seen with her head tilted to a side, giving her an even more childish appearance.
Ayame wears a thin, black robe, that's a size too big for her thin shoulders; the sleeves nearly cover her entire hands, leaving only the fingertips visible. The lining of a silken pink robe can be seen at the neck, sleeve, and bottom area, ruffled and shimmery. The robe ends at her mid-thighs, and her feet are clad in black slippers, that have long strips of fabric that wrap around her legs, up to her knees.
Background:
Ayame had lived her entire life in Kumogakure, having rarely left its walls until her life as a shinobi began. She was born into a wealthy family; her parents were not ninja, but simply civilians who had amassed a fortune in the trade business. Her parents had raised her carefully, showering her with gifts and making sure she rarely left the safe confines of her house; after all, she'd been born physically weaker than most children, and her parents, too, were naturally cautious people.
Ayame had never minded that much; in fact, she kind of enjoyed it. It wasn't as if she actually wanted to go to school, or anything.
And when her grandfather, an ex-shinobi who had served the village much in his prime, arrived to visit his precious granddaughter in five years, and been horrified to find that she was already ten, without having enrolled in the Academy. And Ayame's father, having been raised with patriarchal values, had no choice but to bow to his father's wishes. And that was how Ayame, hissing and protesting, had been sent off for her education at the Academy.
Simply put, she'd been horrified and outraged all at once. She had to run when they told her to, to jump when they yelled it, to do push-ups when they ordered so. She could barely keep from collapsing in the physical portions of class, and nearly bit the hand off of the instructor in irritation. However, when it came to literary lessons and technique instructions, they found her to be quite adept at the area. She was quick to learn the hand motions, and swift at memorizing and cracking codes.
When Ayame finally graduated, she left the Academy nearly at the top of her class (exam-wise, of course; in the physical tests, she'd barely passed), expecting to spend the rest of her life in lavish peace. But alas, her grandfather was awaiting at her house, and immediately sent her marching off angrily to register to become a ninja.
Her superiors were both delighted and horrified. They'd expected her to do badly, if her physical track records were anything to go by; but Ayame had learned to end her fights quickly and efficiently, using her mental abilities and her techniques, and was able to finish more missions than they had expected. But when placed in group situations, she pissed off her teammates more than her opponents. After all, every time someone came up with a plan, she immediately shot it down, claiming that they were all wrong, incompetent fools.
So now, the authorities try to place her in as many group environments as much as possible; both as punishment, and as adaptation lessons.
