The ninja were running swiftly across the flat, wet countryside of Rain. The hidden Rain village had request the team escort a supply caravan. Suno was worried about this particular mission, not because he didn't think he could handle it, but because he was still hurting from his last mission. The others had received medical attentions for their wounds, and had been healed right away. After a day or two, they were fine. Suno, who had been beaten black and blue, didn't bother wasting his time in the medical facility. There wasn't much they would have been able to do anyway. Maybe give him a pill or two to deal with the constant pain. Still, he had somehow been made leader of this team while his sensei was still out on his mission.
That worried him to. He had not heard from him in a long while. Looking back at the others, they seemed to be lost in their own world as they traveled. Suno didn't say anything to them. He allowed them to stray into their own thoughts. They were still close enough to the village that they weren't any in real danger. Most of the crime around the village was already in the village. Of course, with the land being as flat as it was, there wasn't really any need to be worried. They would see any attack miles before they were close. Thats assuming its not an enemy ninja. And if that was the case, they had a whole different level of problems to worry about.
The three man squad spent most of the day traveling, with few words said. They were now in more dangerous territory, so they didn't stray into their thoughts nearly as often. Every so often, one would begin to drift, before being called back by the others. As the sun set over the horizon, Suno called a halt for the day. They still had only a few miles left, but he wanted to wait till morning before arriving. At night, they wouldn't be able to see anything. It was a new moon period, which meant a lack of moon light. After a short meal, they all played rock, paper, scissors to determine the watch order. Suno had first watch.
While the others slept, he would place his back up against a small grassland tree. A few more could be spotted around. While he sat, his eyes began to tire, and mind started to drift. He began to think about his last mission. Before he knew it, he was going through flash backs. The savage beating he received in order to catch the mission target, the practice with using his Sharingan abilities. He thought about how people seemed to slow when they went to strike. He could see how their bodied tensed when they were preparing to throw a punch. Watching their leg muscles, he could see before they ever did it just where, and how they were gonna turn.
Thinking about the real Uchihas, he wondered just how scary it was to go up against one of them. To watch as your enemy seem to know what you were doing before you had even thought of it. That was the true ability of the Uchiha. The fear. Most were no more threatening then the average ninja. But the fear their eyes inspired into their opponent..that was the true golden ability. He did not even have the full ability, and he could already see the movements of others. None of his team mates were any good at casting Genjutsu though. That really was the one thing lacking in this team. Suno himself could preform it..but it wasn't anything other then invisibility techniques..which were very limiting on the user. Most of his were nothing more then temporary defenses until he could come up with another strategy.
They boy continued to think about these things. He did not notice his eyes growing heavier with each passing second. Before he knew it, he was fast asleep, dreaming about a time long, when the worst worry on his mind was what game was he gonna play after school. These dreams would only be ended by the rising sun.
