The first section of lesson six started with a picture diagram of the human throat, going into detail in a short paragraph about how it worked and that the next lesson would go into intricate detail about it and why people would choke while unconscious. While reading through this lesson (after memorizing the parts of the throat like he had done with the heart), Aimi found it to be quite morbid. It seemed that for the majority of these incidents you needed to be right there when it was happening or else the person might very well die, unless of course you enter just as the choking is happening. It briefly covered the Heimlich maneuver in more detail, but it went into more advanced versions of choking prevention in this lesson. It was a rather short section really, and once it was done Aimi moved on to the seven section.
This lesson entitled AED - Adult confused Aimi at first, primarily by what an AED was. He found out that it was a device that was used in the medical world to keep the beat of a heart steady in the event that it is erratic or even stopped. AED, as it turned out, meant Automated External Defibrillator, which didn't really mean much to Aimi, especially the defibrillator part. Though he assumed he would find out what it meant by reading, and so he did. As it turned out, and AED sent shocks throughout the heart in order to steady the heart beat in case of cardiac arrhythmia or ventricular tachycardia, both conditions where the heart is acting either with erratic beats or extremely slow ones. That was a pretty smart innovation Aimi thought, this little machine probably saved a lot of lives, although it did make it clear that a patient only has a slight chance at surviving such cardiac related illnesses, even with the use of an AED.
The lesson went on to explain that this machine was not designed to treat flat line patients, only those who were suffering from cardiac illnesses such as the ones mentioned before. It also warned that if not treated quickly, a person could suffer irreversible brain damage and possible death. Aimi wondered if the electricity that the machine generated could be recreated with chakra. He doubted it but it might be a fun experiment some time. From there, the lesson went on to explain the proper procedures before beginning treatment with an AED machine. The lesson ended on page two hundred and thirteen, and a nice sizable chunk of the book was still left to read. Once he was done with the lesson, Aimi sat down on the ground and put his hand over his heart, feeling his blood flow. He had learned a lot about his heart today, and the knowledge made him wonder if he was taking proper care of it. He reviewed his diet mentally and thought about ways to improve it. He pushed these thoughts aside though in favor for the eighth lesson, the last in the second book. He turned the pages to the first page of the last section.
