The night was warm and the sky was clear. Aimi had come back out to the field of grass to retrieve the training dummy, not wanting anything to happen to it. After all, it was just borrowed equipment. As he made his way through the dark, Aimi cursed himself for not having thought ahead to bring a flashlight or something else that would have given him some sort of light. It would have made things so much easier if he had! The only reason he'd come out here was because he suddenly remembered that he'd left the dummy behind the day before and the thought of getting in trouble for losing it didn't set well in his mind. So he'd rushed out into the night, intent on getting it and getting back as quickly as possible.
As he waded through the tall grass though, he was worried that he'd just get lost, going around in circles. He certainly didn't want that to happen, not at all. The thought did cross his mind to use some of his fire jutsu to light a path, but the idea of setting the field on fire by accident didn't set well with him. He also considered just lighting a few blades of grass that he'd plucked together like a torch, but that idea wouldn't work either. There was no way for him to keep the grass from burning too quickly, and it was wet with dew. They wouldn't make good kindle at all. What he needed was a flame that would give him light but wouldn't burn...
He stopped in the middle of the grass and sighed a bit. He wasn't going to get anywhere like this, for all he knew he was going around in circles. He needed a light, and that was exactly what he was going to make. Holding his hands out in front of him, Aimi tried to peer at them through the darkness. The inky black of the night almost made them completely invisible to him. He folded them together though and began to channel his chakra. What he was wanting was very specific, a flame which would not be hot enough to start a fire yet would be bright enough to give off light for him to see by.
Forming a string of handseals, Aimi took in a deep breath and cupped his hands together. Emitting chakra from the palms of his hands and the pads of his fingers, he blew air into his cupped hands and used his flowing chakra to ignite it. A spark quickly turned into a flame and a tiny flicker of the stuff quickly grew and turned into a full on ball. He was careful not to put too much chakra into it though, it needed to be just the right amount. More over, he needed to be able to pick up the dummy with both arms, he couldn't do it with just one, which meant that this flame would need to float, as if it weren't already a precise enough jutsu he was trying to create.
The flame grew slowly in comparison, feeding off of Aimi's breath and the chakra he was giving it. When at last he was out of breath, he held his head back and looked at what he had created thus far. A little ball of fire, giving off only a small amount of light levitated just barely more than an inch from his hands, still feeding off of his chakra. It was round, almost like a ball with small wisps of flame licking skyward almost lazily. Taking his hands away from the bottom of the flame slowly, half an inch at a time, Aimi tried to ween the flame off of his chakra and get it to sustain itself.
More than once while he was doing this the flame flickered in and out as though undecided if it wanted to exist outside of the palm of Aimi's hands. This passed though, and when Aimi was a good six inches away from the flame he let his hands fall down to his sides completely. The result was a ball of flame which floated in the air and seemed to bounce a bit, swaying from side to side simultaneously. It didn't grow and it didn't seek out anything to burn like a normal fire would. It was completely sustained by chakra and his breath. It almost appeared... content.
Lifting his left hand up, Aimi moved it slowly through the fire. To his delight, it didn't burn int he slightest. It just felt warm, just barely above body temperature. Anyone could touch this flame and not be harmed by it... that was, if Aimi wanted them to touch the flame. It was sustained by his chakra, so theoretically he could control it. Deciding to test this out, Aimi pulled his hand from out of the flame and pointed to his left. To his delight, the little ball of flame bounced through the air and came to a stop just in front of his hand. He smiled at himself, a little more than proud for having made this little ball of flame his own. With it he'd be able to find the training dummy and get home easily.
Speaking of which, now that he had a light he needed to find the thing. Lifting his head up and looking around, Aimi frowned as he discovered just how dull a flame he had created. It didn't give off much light at all, he'd compare it to a low drawn torch or maybe a flashlight that was running low on batteries. It did give off a light, but it wasn't particularly bright. He imagined if he were looking at it from a distance it would be enough to catch his attention but not enough to illuminate a bit area. Perhaps this ball of flame was best used for different purposes...
Peering through the dark, searching for at least the outline of the training dummy, Aimi was struck with the realization that he wouldn't be able to find it from his current location. Deciding to try and send the little ball of flame out further to look around, Aimi pointed his left arm in a different direction and watched as the little ball of flame bounced off through the air along its indicated path of travel. It was cute in a way, sort of cheerful. After watching it bounce off for several meters, keeping his eyes peeled for the silhouette of the training dummy, Aimi decided to change its direction again and sent it off on a circular path around himself. He estimated that it was about thirty meters away from him, bouncing along as if it didn't have a care in the world.
When it came around a cull circle, Aimi started to send it spiraling around himself, increasing the distance gradually. He turned his body along with the dull, bouncing flame, keeping an eye out for any sign of the dummy. Then at last, he saw it. The dully light of the flame just barely illuminated the training tool some feet away form where it was. That was good, he'd found it at last. Then the unexpected happened - the ball of flame went out. At first, Aimi tensed up, thinking that perhaps something had snuffed it out. He heard nothing though and felt nothing stir in the air. he cycled through logical reasons for the flame to went out and came to two conclusions: The first was that it had burned through its supply of chakra and thus gone out, the second was that it had traveled to far away from the source of chakra and gone out as a result. His mind was leaning more towards the later explanation though, as it didn't seem like the sort of jutsu that ate chakra to sustain itself.
Shrugging it off, Aimi folded his hands together and molded his chakra again, this time gathering the chakra into his throat. Breathing out the chakra infused air, he formed another little ball of bouncing flame just in front of his head. When he was out of breath he pulled his head back and inspected the flame again. As before, it looked and acted just like the previous one he'd created. He smiled at his creation and walked through the grass towards the direction of the training dummy, the little ball of flame trailing behind him as he went, bouncing back and forth and swaying from side to side.
When he finally reached the dummy, he picked it up with both of his arms and carried it on his back, groaning a bit form his stiff muscles. He'd found it, now it was time for him to go home. he gave a final look at the little ball of flame and bid it to stay put before turning and heading back towards the village. Sinking into the darkness of the night, heading home to get some rest, Aimi's back was turned as the little dull ball of light flickered in and out before disappearing entirely as if it had never existed at all.
Name: Gōsuto Hikari (Ghost-light)
Rank: C
Skill: Ninjutsu
Effect: Creates a small ball of flame that can be used to guide someone along or get them lost.
Special: Handseals
Drawback: User must be within a certain distance of the flame depending on their rank or else it will go out and the user will have to cast the jutsu again.
Description: The user makes the handseals and creates a small ball of flame in the air in front of them. The flame doesn't give off much heat at all and is not as hot as other fire. Touching this ball of flame will not burn the person touching it in the slightest. Similarly, the light this flame gives off is incredibly dull in comparison to other flames. When someone other than the user gets within a foot of this flame, it will disappear only to reappear two meters away in any direction, chosen by the user. User must be within twenty meters of the flame to keep it sustained, plus ten meters for every rank the user is above "D".
