Learning the Riding, Airborne Mount Skill 10 TP, 5 die rolls.Riding, Airborne (Mount)
Rank: "E" (10 TP at all times)
Skill: Skill
Effect: The character with this skill is trained in handling a flying mount.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: A character can choose 1 specific Creature. If a user wants to know how to ride for each additional animal it will cost 10 TP per creature. Unlike land-based riding, a character must have this skill to handle a flying mount. In addition, a skilled character can do the following. Look in Task Skills thread found in the Skills and Traits Index for more information. Each time learned user gets 5 die roll to increase the skill.
Limit: Must know Riding, Land-Based (Mount)
Because I purchased the book which states in the Updated thread I gain a +1 per die roll.
Current Skill count is 42/125
The Doctor felt he was learning how to fly this contraption at an incredibly high rate. Feeling more confident he continued through the 2nd portion of the manual which was basic maneuvers.
"Oh excellent, how to take off," he commented to himself with a soft sigh.
He quickly flipped through the pages examining what he needed to go through and immediately began from the beginning of the chapter. "First, be sure that the throttle is all the way open, okay," he said softly examining the throttle briefly. "Wait until you have reached proper operating RPM, okay," he continued taking a quick break. "Then pull the collective gradually up. As the pitch increases, push the left pedal. Continue pulling on the collective and depressing the left pedal. Adjust the pedal if the aircraft is turning to the left or the right." The Doctor stopped and began to mimic what the book commented. He first began pulling up the handle while the machine was not yet activated, and then immediately began to push the left pedal while slowly depressing it.
The Doctor stopped messing with his little practice and continued to read. "The Flying Destruction Machine will leave the ground and you will be able to use the cycle. As you continue to pull the collective and depress the pedal, adjust the cycle to level the Flying Destruction Machine as you take off. Push forward slightly to start moving forward." The Doctor stopped momentarily. He had a confused look on his face but slowly processed the information. He placed his hand on the handle once again and began to mimic the instructions. He pulled the collective and depressed the pedal, he adjusted the cycle to level the machine. Everything he did he was imagining in his head, trying to grasp an accurate account of what needed to be done. "I'm going to have to change the mechanics of this a bit," he said calmly to himself. "I should have this modified more accurately like how it is explained in here." he continued.
"As the Flying Destruction Machine transitions from a vertical to forward motion, it will shudder. Push the cycle forward a little more to make sure you keep going forward. The phenomenon that causes the shudder is called effective translational lift, or ETL," the Doctor stopped and placed a hand on his chin for a brief moment "You know, for a transportation device you are incredibly advanced. Perhaps too advanced?" he commented on it with a soft sigh.
Quickly shaking his head he continued with his reading "As you progress through ETL, reduce the collective lever," he stopped taking hold of the level, "and apply less pressure to the pedal," he continued relieving the pedal. "Push the cycle forward to avoid an abrupt nose high attitude and reduction in forward speed," he quickly followed suit taking in everything the lift off had commented on. "Excellent I think I am getting the hang of this," he said with a soft sigh.
"Once you have taken off, slightly release forward cycle pressure. The Aircraft will then begin to climb and gain airspeed. From this point, the pedals are primarily used to trim the aircraft. Most maneuvers will only require a combination of the cycle and collective controls." The Doctor stopped and took in a deep breath. "So let's see that is the lift off part huh," he said with a sigh. "Then let's all put this information away, and then let us begin the next section of our fun.
"Let's see what is next. Ah Hover by finding a balance between the collective, cycle and propellers." he stopped for a moment staring at this section. "Is this it?" he asked curiously. "This cannot be it," he continued with an annoyance in his voice noticing how small the section was. "Learn to do this with an instructor, no chance in hell, who can operate the other controls while you practice them one at a time, and then in combination. You must learn to anticipate the time lag between when you adjust the controls and the helicopter's reaction." The Doctor stopped again as he began staring out into space from this section. That was all it said. "So in essence practice without a teacher and do not die. Well that was extremely helpful." he commented in his monotone voice.
The Doctor stopped briefly as he quickly looked outside the window. He watched as Grimm began pouncing on Carla, attacking her but in an aggressive playful manner. Jacob tried to get into the fun by jumping on top of Grimm but was immediately flipped over. Wilhelmina just watched, acting like the surrogate care taker as she did when they just a few weeks. The Doctor smiled and watched with a smile.
The Doctor turned his attention back to the handbook as he continued to read through the "Basic Maneuvers."
"Climb and descend using speeds according to the pilot operating handbook. This will vary depending on the terrain. Maintain between 15 to 20 knots during a steep climb. Carefully increase collective and be sure not to exceed the yellow limit of the torque gauge." The Doctor commented noticing how little information was said at this moment. "So practice again and make sure you do not exceed the yellow limit of the torque gauge," he reiterated placing that information deep into his memory palace.
