It was a bright morning in Yukigakure. It was cold too, but then again it was always cold there. Oyushi Onigami was used to the cold, and barely even noticed with his cloak on. He strolled casually through the village, waving pleasantly to people along the way as he made his way to the academy. Oyushi had to admit, he had helped out at the academy before and it was surprisingly rewarding. It was a laugh to see how different the young ninja were and wonder if he was ever like that, and further more it just felt good to give back. It was nice to be part of the cycle that would protect their home for generations to come.
He made his way between buildings and soon came to the specific classroom he was looking for. He knocked gently on the door and after a moment it slid open to reveal an older shinobi Oyushi was very familiar with. He gave the man a smile and a little nod before the teacher set about introducing the Onigami to the loud and energetic class of students. Seeing that old teacher sure brought back memories from when the genin was one of these students right here. He gave a small wave to the class when the teacher said his name then waited for the students to all shout back a greeting. Speaking up Oyushi informed the class what they’d be doing.
“Alright ninjas, we’re headed outside today to work on your chakra control. Make sure you put on something warm because with the genin tests coming up soon you can’t afford to lose days of training because you got a cold.”
They all stood up and started clowning around, talking and giggling about things as they collected their coats and grouped up in front of the Onigami. There were those that had done as asked quickly and efficiently of course, they’d be called teacher’s pet no doubt, but more often than not their dedication and no mess attitude led them to be strong ninja. Oyushi himself had been more the mess around throwing paper darts and making snarky remarks type but he’d turned out ok so he wasn’t too worried about those who took a bit longer. Once they were all assembled he took a quick head count and led the children out into the cold.
They travelled a short way to a wooded area with plenty of trees towards the edge of the village. Oyushi led them into a clearing and told them to put their bags in the centre and sit down. Once again there was the same combination of quick, quiet ones and loud, distracted ones. Once they were all seated and listening he got to work on his lesson.
“So today we’ll be working on chakra control by climbing trees. Who out of you guys have tried this before?”
He asked, seeing a few hands up.
“Well first, a demonstration.”
He added as he strolled over to the nearest tree.
With a little hop, Oyushi jumped onto the tree, standing on it with his body out horizontally as he effortlessly held to the tree’s surface. He walked around the tree trunk and up to a branch which he took a stroll out along, hanging from the underneath. That done the fully fledged shinobi dropped back to the ground and continued his lecture.
“As you saw I can easily hold myself onto the tree, even upside down just by using my chakra. Now I don’t expect all of you to get this today, so don’t worry if you have some trouble with it. So pretty soon we’re going to get started and when we do I want you all to spread out and find a tree around the perimeter of this clearing to practise on. Then you’re going to focus and draw your chakra to the bottom of your feet and try to create a little layer in your soles. Once you have done that try to walk up the tree by letting the chakra flow a little into the surface of the tree while staying connected to your feet.”
He finished his explanation and there was a pause of silence.
“Alright are we ready to get started then? Go and pick your trees.”
He said and they all scuttled off eagerly, even the trouble makers. Oyushi remembered when he had started this, with his natural affinity for chakra control he had picked it up very quickly. He wondered if there was anyone who would get it as fast as he did in this class.
“If you want you can take a kunai and make a scratch each time to track how high you get and measure your progress.”
He added, having to yell a little to get the message out to all the youngsters.
