This gym was giving lessons to those that were interested in knowing how to do wrestling moves. I went ahead and signed right up then shortly after went through some test to see if I met the standards before they are allowed to teach me anything. Once all of that was out of the way the gave me an instructor and started to teach me some moves right from the get-go. However said that I should learn some strikes before I go into grapples so I went along with it.
The back elbow, the instructor demonstrated for me of what it is and the mechanics of doing it. I stood close to him and I try to imitate his movements. Raising my arm to the side of me where my wrist was paralleled to my shoulder. Then I bend my joint at the elbow area about 90 degrees. Watching the instructor, he said the trick is to twist your body so the point of the elbow connects. I must be very careful to not forget to rotate my body, for if I do there is a good chance that I will miss the connection of the point of my elbow and get with the area right above it.
That area is somewhat sensitive and impact on it can cause numbness to even lose of use of the forearm for a period of time. I twist only my waist and the instructor said that was excellent. He even showed me how to strike without moving my waist but by simple moving back my shoulder. I done it and he was very impressed that I am able to do it with such ease and without any stress. He says that usually wrestlers have quite a hard time flexing their bodies like that due to their bulkiness. But with someone with my strong yet soft muscles using these wrestling maneuvers will be a breeze.
I have to think where my opponent is at exactly when I`m about to do this strike. The instructor says it`s easy to hit someone when they are at 4 or 5 o`clock position from your person. Though it is kinda tricky when trying to get someone right at the 6 o`clock position, right behind you. He showed me boy moving his shoulders and waist that once you get the hang of it you can easily take someone out from the 6 o`clock position. I attempted to do what he did, he showed me that when moving my shoulder back I also have to move my other shoulder forward.
So it would be in a rotation motion that I move both my shoulders. Also it be easier to strike with the point of my elbow if I bent the joint from 90 degrees to as much as I can. Doing this is said that it will be very difficult to harm yourself when you don`t connect right at the point of your elbow. Then finally I rotate my waist to fully rotate my upper body. Once I done that my instructor said to do it again but see how far I can do it. I tried the same movements again by tried to twist just a little be farther. The instructor complemented my great body structure and said I can easily take out someone from the 7 to even the 8 o`clock position from using just my right shoulder.
