Roaring thunder and crashing waterfalls created a wall of noise that filled the air around the young Hiroki as he stood at the bank of a large pool of water at the bottom of one of the many waterfalls. He looked up to the sky as lightning flashed through the clouds and let out a soft yet calm sigh. He had become much more solemn when he was alone - and he and his team had not spent much time together lately. Taking the life of another human being had and still weighed heavy on him.

A light rain fell from the sky while he stood. He let the water roll down his skin and closed his eyes to find his center before he could continue training his raiton techniques. He brought a small scroll with him that his mother had penned, making note of several techniques that she thought would suit her son quite well. He reached behind him into his butt-bag and pulled the scroll out. Unfurling it, his eyes scanned over the first of the techniques. He did his best to memorize what it said about the skill and placed the scroll back in his bag so it didn't get too wet from the rain.

If I can't train this stuff in the rain...then I've got no business using the techniques...

The single thought went through his head was self-motivating: he could not fail, he needed to prove he could to himself. Without anymore hesitation Hiro turned his focus to training, and started moving slowly through the handseals. He was focusing his chakra slowly with the handseals, getting used to the feel of this technique. He worked it from his chest and moved the chakra through his hands. Slowly he guided it to the ground through his legs, watching sparks jump from his feet to the ground around him.

He let it go and started over. One handseal linked to the next as he molded and moved chakra from his core to his arms to his feet. When the chakra was at his feet he continued with his exercise of control. He pushed it from his feet out into the ground around him. As it moved, the lightning chakra formed into some semblance of a circle. However, the ring was no more than a few centimeters tall and distorted, almost staticky.

I can do this...

He took a few steps back, and shook his hands out to reenergize for a third attempt at this technique. When he moved, the 'ring' flickered away into nothingness. Another flash of lightning crossed the sky and Hiroki moved his hands through the seals for the technique once again. He closed his eyes and focused, bringing the chakra from his core through the body and then down and out of his feet. He opened his eyes and muttered the name of the technique to add one more way to remember it.

"Raiton Den'atsu Maru"

Hiroki's lightning typed chakra formed a distorted circle around him, reaching only a foot into the sky. He closed his eyes again and focused, trying to fix the distortion by applying more control over the chakra. His determination was steely as he opened his eyes to see if his attempt had succeeded. The ring had stabilized and become less distorted and yet the height dropped. The technique had turned into a single line of electricity forming a circle on the ground.

Hiro groaned in frustration as thunder roared through the area. He dropped the technique, resolved to try again and get it right.

The young genin walked several steps toward the forest and away from the pool of water he stood near to try once again at this technique. He had the right feel for moving the chakra he needed through his body and into his environment and yet he couldn't actually completely form the technique. Was he not using enough chakra for it?

As he asked himself that question he started forming handseals again. While his chakra moved throughout the body he forced more into the technique itself. Moving from core to arms to legs and feet, the amount of chakra kept rising until he released it around him in a supposed shield. He overestimated, and the electricity formed the intended shape, though it was three inches thick and rose three times as tall as the boy.

He let out a yelp in surprise and the technique exploded around him, sending sparks through the ground and into the air. Hiroki was panting, maybe he used too much chakra in that attempt. Regardless, the boy leaned forward and took a moment's reprieve as the falling rain bounced off his back and bare arms.

I am good enough...gotta do it...

With a mumble to himself in encouragement Hiroki's hands rolled through the handseals of this technique once more. He kept his mind as clear as it could be. The boy was troubled, that was true, but those troubles helped him become a better shinobi. He had to do it, so that he could help his family, friends, and village.

Lightning natured chakra danced across his skin, around his arms and torso then down his legs until all at once the electricity sparked outward. Only a thin glowing blue-yellow line of electricity was visible in the circle around him as the technique formed. That thin line stretched up 4 meters from the ground to form a thin electrical cylinder around Hiroki.

"Raiton - Den'atsu Maru!"

Hiroki's technique stood tall around him for several seconds, before all at once the cylinder expanded as a surge of chakra sent the jutsu into working mode. In the blink of an eye what was a 2 meter diameter circle became a 10 meter diameter circle. The technique had extended the whole way out around him to it's maximum.

Even the rain wouldn't stop Hiroki from training hard. As thunder roared through the sky the technique faded, sparking into the air around him.

One more technique in his arsenal was but a small victory. Hiro pulled the scroll from his mother from his buttbag once more. He moved on to the second technique she had left for him to learn. Fundamentally similar to Den'atsu Maru yet a step or two further. He locked the seals in the back of his head and placed the scroll in his bag, away from the rain.

It kept pounding, giving the young boy a steady drumbeat to work with and tune his thoughts to. Being outside had always comforted him, no matter the weather. After learning the basics of Raiton thunderstorms always helped him think when most other children would run inside to hide under their mothers' skirts.

The lightning and thunder doesn't frighten me...

Even before he started forming seals, his mind was racing. Making note of the differences between Den'atsu Maru and the one he was looking to learn. Difference one was shape. One was a simple cylinder that expanded while the new technique created a dome or sphere around him. Difference two was activation. Chakra pushed through the feet activated Den'atsu Maru, whereas this one took a burst of chakra from the hand slammed on the ground.

Those two differences would definitely take some shifting about in technique fundamentals. Though the two had something in common as well - both Raiton techniques expanded outward like lightning to blast away incoming attack. He knew it wouldn't work against every type of assault, but he still had plenty of time to make his arsenal bigger.

Hiroki moved his hands through the handseals for Sazanami Getsuei, slowly at first so that he could get used to the feel of the flow of chakra. Like with the last one he started at his chest, visualizing the movement through his body. He flipped it though - he visualized the chakra going from his chest down to his feet and then back up through his arms. As it passed through his body it gained its charge, crackling over his skin with small sparks of blue. He finished the circuit at his left hand - his dominant hand - and stared at it for a good minute, holding the charge.

He nodded to himself and shook his hand out, discharging the chakra before he even bothered to use the technique. With a feel of how the chakra flowed he could make it faster...and hopefully with a little practice enough to be able to use it in combat.

Hiro started again. Mentally following the flow of chakra through his body like a circuit he gathered it into his hand, taking his time to get a feel for it. After about three times of this, he crouched down, slamming his hand into the wet ground underneath him. He had a feel for it, now to figure out how much power to push through for this technique.

His hand sparked, but even with the wet ground he didn't let it short out. Lightning chakra sparked into a dome-like net around him, with several holes in it as he held it. Looking around at what he had produced Hiroki shook his head and stood, letting the technique sizzle into the air around him. Lightning flashed through the clouds above him and shortly after a blast of thunder followed.

The rain can pound all it wants, I'm not stopping, I will get stronger!

A net wasn't good enough. It needed to be a full dome. The boy took a deep breath and looked up into the stormy sky. Lightning flashed through the clouds, followed by a low but long rumble of thunder. Hiro moved his hands together again, shifting them through handseals as his chakra moved through his body and finally culminating in his left hand. He focused himself and crouched down quickly, slamming his palm onto the wet ground.

Sparks flew from the place of impact and arced through the ground a meter in radius from him, before flashing into bolts of crossing lightning around him. Holes in the net of electricity closed with the amount of chakra he put into it, yet some still were there. He shook his head and pulled his hand up from the ground. The domed web of lightning flickered out of the air around him.

He repeated the handseals again, pouring chakra into the technique. His left hand crackled with lightning typed chakra. As thunder roared through the sky once more, Hiro touched his palm to the ground. "Raiton - Sazanami Getsuei." There was a flash, and all at once the lightning chakra from his hand sparked into a circle first, then connected up and around him. What was once a net was a glowing dome of blue-white lightning. He looked up, noticing that no rain passed through this shield. It gave him only a brief respite from the rain. He stood with a soft smile on his face, looking up at the sky.

Drawback: Takes an additional 50% of time if it is not relearned a second time. After relearning the jutsu a second time no additional petals can be created. All that’s happened after learning the second version of this jutsu is that the time constraint drawback is removed. Field of vision is also blurred if field control is not learned due to the incredible amount of sakurai petals.
Description: With additional training with the sakurai no jutsu the user is able to increase the amount of sakurai petals they can create upon casting the Sakurai no Jutsu to almost double what they were able to create upon first learning the jutsu. These additional petals allow for the Cherry Blossom Swirl Technique to withstand up to four C rank hits, allows the Sword Technique to create a weapon of Great Sword size, two Katana’s or ten weapons of kunai size or lesser, increases the range of the Lightning Constraints technique to twenty meters however it does not affect Sakurai techniques of A rank and above or the Lightning Razor technique.

Hiroki closed his eyes and let the shield of electricity fall from around him. With the shield gone, raindrops hit his face and started rolling down his skin. He was already soaked, the extra water didn't bother him much at all. He probably wouldn't be staying out much longer, even though there was much he still wanted to train and figure out. He moved slightly, brushing water out of his face (or at least trying to) to no avail.

His hands moved through the seals of sakurai, creating several hundred tiny petals of blue-white lightning around him within what started as three meters but they spread to loosely fill a fifteen foot radius around him. As things were, he could only create so many petals. He closed his eyes and focused, pouring more chakra into the rather simple technique. His goal was to create more.

With more chakra going into the technique Hiroki's skin started to spark as more petals jumped off of his person. However, he was trying a bit too hard, and as a result the petals were too much. They started to collide into each other en masse and short out. What had been on the way to becoming many more petals was now down to approximately fifty. Hiroki looked around at the sparse amount of petals that remained and shook his head, canceling the technique.

'Focus Hiroki, you can do this'

Two new shield techniques down today and he was still going. The boy knew he needed to keep going strong to improve. His hands weaved together into handseals for Sakurai once more, however this time he was feeding chakra to the technique slowly - trying to figure out what would work to produce more of the petals. In a matter of moments he hit what could be considered his 'max' amount of petals but he wouldn't and didn't stop there.

Taking his chakra flow almost into a funnel he started creating one more petal at a time. The process was meticulous, and was making him start to sweat. He could barely tell since the rain still fell around him though. One by one more petals started to form, though as he made more some of the existing started to flicker and even spark away. This was taking quite a long time to do compared to the regular sakurai. Even so, he was making slow progress.

Slow progress was better than no progress. It at the very least meant that he was getting somewhere and would have something to show for it in the morning. The biggest annoyance Hiroki had about trying to create more was the time it took. If it was going to take him this long to form more petals every single time he wanted to use the technique than it would become rather difficult to use in the middle of a battle.

He would have to keep it up and train so that didn't become an issue. The sweat dripping from his brow in concentration mixed with the rain and rolled down his neck, soaking more into his already wet clothing. At this point he was determined. The rain was starting to make him cold but he wouldn't stop now.

He widened the imaginary funnel a bit more and created more petals. Instead of single petals forming at once over and above what were already there groups of three or four started sparking off of his body into the air. The same problem remained though, while he could add more petals carefully the ones that were already there flickered and vanished.

'Maybe I'm doing it wrong'

Hiro's mental question sapped enough of his attention that he caused the whole of the technique to vanish. The petals flickered and sparked away like stars disappearing from the sky.

'What if I use twice the chakra from the beginning?'

The new idea couldn't hurt, could it? With that thought Hiroki moved his hands through the seals for sakurai like he had practiced and done many times by now. Little by little, blue-white petals formed around him, swirling gently within just a few meters radius. His chakra streamed through his body in electric current as the technique just kept going. He smiled, hoping that this would actually do it. With more petals, he would be able to use the techniques he already knew with it more efficiently and with greater effect.

The petals around him seemed to multiply almost exponentially, what was two became four, then eight, then many until the number of petals so close to him made it practically impossible for him to see out of, even when he pushed them away to lazily float within fifteen meters - where he could control. He blinked, panting slightly and amazed at himself for the sheer number of sakurai petals that surrounded him.

He shifted slightly, and hit his arm into some of the petals which in turn zapped him.

'Aww not this crap again!'

The small shocks stung, but ever since training that A-Rank Tiger jutsu he didn't really pay much mind. The lichtenberg figures that scarred his arms and legs were a reminder that he'd been through much more painful things while training his lightning techniques. Though...this was a lot of sakurai petals. With a quick glance around he let the jutsu drop, ready to go again, but attempt for faster this time.

Hiro's hands zoomed through the seals, it was almost as if he was running on autopilot. However, when he created the petals he slowed it down quite a bit. He needed to figure out exactly how and when the petals formed around him. When he did that, he would be able to speed up the process so even though he was adding more petals the technique wouldn't take as long.

Like with his other techniques as the chakra flowed his closed his eyes and concentrated. The static-like feeling moved through his body starting in his chest and then all at once headed outward. Sakurai created lightning petals in the air around him, which meant that his chakra flow basically went straight out from his skin, almost like a cloud that then took shape.

'Simple'

He was focused and eager to learn all at the same time. The young boy was giving it his all in order to be able to keep up with his team and hopefully honor the memory of his father. With his chakra flow figured out he started over. He still took it rather slow, meticulous in the amount of chakra he pushed out into the cloud around him that then formed into the petals.

Spark by spark, petals formed around him. It seemed like a very long time for the boy and yet the huge and blinding cloud of petals formed in only a few seconds. This was only another step toward mastering the Sakurai technique - he'd have to be faster in order to utilize this better in combat. The sparks spun around him, swirling nonviolently in their paths as the space continued to fill.

The cloud of petals once more obscured his vision, and should anyone else be looking in on him they would not be able to catch but a glimpse of Hiroki.

The amount of petals in such close proximity to him made it remarkably difficult to move around, though this was a problem he would tackle later. Or tomorrow. Something like that. Hiroki moved only with his eyes, pushing and pulling the mass of lightning petals to and fro within the fifteen meter radius around him. He started doing some of the drills he had done when he first learned the Sakurai technique.

Simple things, like writing his name in the dreary air with the petals. It got a smile out of him only for a moment, before his focus reset and he canceled Sakurai once again. The petals disappeared however light was not in need, the lightning in the sky from the stormy weather around him periodically lit up the area in such a way that he could easily see precisely where he was within his training area.

Once more, his hands weaved through the handseals. He did the same as he did before, focusing on the chakra cloud around him but this time he sped it up a little bit. Hiro could feel his chakra spread from his center and then out, sparking off of his skin into the air around him as the petals of the Sakurai technique. They floated lazily and as a precaution to himself as soon as they were formed he pushed them out to his maximum sakurai radius of fifteen meters.

Spark by spark like it had been all training session the lightning petals that floated around him filled the area like stars, becoming a bright light in the darkness of the stormy evening. As the petals formed, they started to swirl. Hiro nodded to himself and let the sakurai petals vanish once more.

Okay Hiro, let's do it!

He smiled as his hands flashed through the sakurai handseals once more. His chakra sparked outward, almost immediately filling the area around him with the blue-white petals of the jutsu. It truly looked like falling sakura petals that floated around him, filling the whole space quickly. He had a feeling now that it was almost time to head home. He'd added more petals to his arsenal...hopefully he'd be able to extend his range with them next.

Hiro stepped backward without thing, and his body stiffened as a clump of sakurai petals zapped him in the back. He jumped, and bumped into some more.

'Dangit!'

Effect: Increases the range that the user can manipulate the sakurai petals.
Special: Passive jutsu once the Sakurai technique is cast.
Drawback: The sakurai petals can be stretched too thin if one doesn't have the extra sakurai technique.
Description: This technique allows the user to increase the range in which they control the Sakurai Technique allowing for the jutsu to be more battle ready. At C rank the user can increase the range of this jutsu by an additional fifteen meters allowing them to control the sakurai petals for a distance of thirty meters. At B rank they are able to once again increase the techniques range an additional fifteen meters allowing for control of the Sakurai Petals within forty-five meters. The B rank version of this can be re learned to a maximum distance of one-hundred fifty meters.
Limit: Lightning Release, Raiton: Sakurai, Must be C rank to learn the C rank version of this technique, must be B rank to learn the B rank version of this technique.

Hiro yawned, and through the rain headed home so that he could sleep for the evening. That and warm up a bit. He slept quite well, and in the morning with dry clothes returned to his training spot. It had become muddy, though the roar of the nearby waterfall still echoed through the area. The boy didn't mind the stormy weather, but it was nice to be dry again.

He yawned, stretching his arms up over his head with a rather loud noise. He was still a bit sore from the shocks he got from the extra sakurai petals yesterday but did his best to just ignore the annoyance and push past to get better. He didn't waste much time, swiftly moving his hands through the seals for his newly improved sakurai.

Petals exploded into existence around him and started to swirl gently around him. He had to remain completely still so he didn't get zapped once more by his own technique. It was funny to think one simple movement would cause some pain. He thought back to when he first started training sakurai and sighed. With a simple motion he pushed his arms out, making the lightning petals move away from him.

His goal this time was increased range...and it only made sense that pushing petals outside his max range and trying to control them was his best bet. The outer ring of petals went past fifteen meters and started to just fall where they were. Despite his best efforts Hiroki could do little more than cause the petals to twitch as they fell. It meant he was having trouble reaching out with his chakra to control the petals.

'Ugh...this is harder than I thought it would be...'

Hiro pushed another ring of sakurai petals outside of the fifteen meter range and focused, trying to get them to at least do something. It took some doing, but with a great deal of concentration he could keep the ring of petals floating at the very least. He was still having some issue doing anything other than keeping the petals aloft.

With a shake of his head he let the petals of Sakurai flicker away. He did it again, creating the huge cloud of sakurai petals. He pushed them away from himself like before, splitting the cloud of petals into four. He would focus on working with one group at a time. The first of four he pushed away as far as he could, to about twenty meters.

The intent was to have them form into an orb and just spin. At first, the form looked more like an amoeba than any solid shape but over the course of a few minutes it started to look more like a circle. The petals were spinning about slowly, but it seemed that as he practiced the range at which he could control the petals was indeed increasing.

Hiro grinned, happy to see he was making progress. He had already spent about an hour today trying to figure this out and it was slowly but surely paying off. With a small motion he kept the first group of petals in their orb and spinning at about twenty meters away from him. One was easy, yet that was only a fraction of the whole of his sakurai technique.

To help with his concentration Hiro kept that orb floating there to split his concentration. He focused now on the second of the four groups of petals and loosely shaped it into a ring. The ring itself formed no issue inside his typical range though as soon as it was big enough the boy made it move. The ring flipped through the air in a flurry of sakurai petals and made it's way toward the floating orb. It moved slowly, but it was there nonetheless.

The ring spun and moved around the existing orb of sakurai petals, making something reminiscent of a ringed planet that floated in the air. Next challenge was to keep this up when both groups were in close proximity. Hiro kept the orb spinning, and started an attempt to make the ring around it spin the opposite direction. At first it looked like the whole thing was going to collapse and become one group of petals. They fluctuated, but managed to stay together.

Sweat formed on Hiro's brow, if he could be precise now in battle he wouldn't need to be as precise, not to mention the rest of the techniques he used with sakurai. Once more he shifted his focus, this time to the third group of petals.

'Okay Hiro...you got this...'

He smiled as he caused the third group of sakurai petals to spread thinly. The clump slowly become a cloud. Before long, the petals were scattered all throughout the thirty foot radius of space he was training for. They floated gently through the air, staying suspended while the 'planet' still spun.

With a huge grin he nodded at his small galaxy. The last group of petals moved quickly, the longer he held the petals aloft the easier this was getting. In a movement, the petals collided with the 'planet' of petals. They merged into one group and spun, before flowing outward and around him to fill the twenty foot radius area as well.

Anyone looking from the outside would see what looked like space, with Hiro in the middle. Each fleck of lightning around him was like an individual star. He turned his whole body to se the large mass of sakurai petals revolving around him and through the air.

'Man this technique is cool...'

Happy with himself and satisfied in his skill with sakurai for the moment Hiroki started to head back to the village. As he walked though, he reached into his buttbag to pull out a single scroll. He unfurled it as he walked until he could access the seals. He placed his hand on the paper and with a poof of smoke, he held a Bo in his hand. He stopped for a moment and re-furled the scroll, tucking it away in his buttbag. Testing the weight of the weapon he broke into a jog, headed for the bojutsu dojo on the edge of the village itself.

He stepped up into the wooden building, removing his long sandals at the door before bowing respectfully to go in. There were only one or two more students in the dojo, which Hiro thought odd. Even though he was excited, he was going to be respectful and keep himself in check. He approached the dojo's sensei and bowed respectfully again.

"Please teach me" he requested, his head still down. The sensei, a twenty-something year old male fighter nodded. It seemed that Hiro's teacher would be more action that words. That was fine. Hiroki stood and looked at the man, awaiting instruction.

"Watch, imitate, learn." The sensei's instructions were simple. He moved to the front of the dojo and faced the students. From the looks of it the others were beginners as well. "Basic Stance. Dominant hand up, opposite down. Each should be a hand's width from the center of your bo.

Hiroki paid attention to the best of his ability, it seemed that at least the basic stance was simple. Then again the bo was a simple sort of weapon. He did as instructed and held the staff in front of him. He placed his left hand on the center of the staff first and then moved it, eyeballing what looked like a hands' width from the center of the staff. His grip around the staff had his palm facing up.

He repeated the process with the opposite hand, this time his grip made his palm face down. He watched carefully and eyeballed the distance from the center of the staff, so that all in all his hands were about ten to twelve inches apart holding the bo. Due to the grip, the staff was angled so that the left side was up higher than the right.
