~Appearance:
Cody is a fair skinned male. Long hours under sunlight tinged his skin a deep olive. His muscle tone is cut and slender; grown through calisthenics. Average legs, set upon a thick muscled torso with rope-like arms though maintaining a proper upper to lower body ratio. His hands are nicked an scarred from picking through many thorn bushes; fishing for his favorite herbs.
Cody's hat, a memento of his father, never leaves his head. Few have seen it not topping his squarish, narrow jawed head. Light fraying about the brim has given it a character that has seen more, if not less, action than Cody himself. Its rawhide has a harsh brown about it. It has dried and cracked in place and its band is tearing. Cody's covered it with a black Taki headband. He hasn't thought to replace it, ever.
Cody's hair is ash brown and shoulder length. Its ends are frayed. Maintained only with crude implements like his own tools or knives unsuitable for the task. His hair hasn't seen a brush or shampoo since he was potty trained. Cody trims it shorter in front to keep his green eyes clear. With his hat on only his bangs show.
Cody wears a long duster that hems above his ankles. The buttons are a fine polished steel. Its design at first was a wolf's profile but time has worn it to an odd etching. A fine coating of grime has trekked up to his knees. Straps and buckles hang from his sleeves and hem. He keeps them tied to reduce noise.
Under that, a silver and black vest over a dress shirt. The vest is striped. A dull black over a silkier black. Vest and shirts are maybe the only dress object he keeps up. A look into a closet would find several of these matched up for future wear. Cuff links, once again a unnecessary noise-maker.
A modified belt holds his crossbow and wakizashis. A new attachment holds his pistol crossbows in crude holsters. Both parallel to his spine for ease. Khaki pants, usually khaki in color are wide for his legs. A thick brown patch covers his knees. Lightly padded for added comfort. A perfect garb for waiting for an animal that you've tracked for hours. He wears leather finger-less gloves, covering an odd mouth on his hand.
~Personality:
Patient
Minutes or hours, it could take for a deer or rabbit to cross your path. And days for an animal trail to lead to a nest. It's so sweet to see your efforts cook over a fire. Cody thinks that way with people. He can wait for someone to fall into a trap or put their own foot in their mouth. Or better yet; stand in front of your cross hairs.
Focused
A blink could make you miss a rabbit prancing by. An incorrect herb could harm or kill. Cody has a knack of blocking out voices. Except, his thinking mind. Confidence riots within. Long before he had to isolate himself, refusing food and water until a solution shown itself. A discovery meal is the sweetest.
Selfless
The orphange, full of discarded children, became his family. As things got tough he stepped up and took on chores. Being older at the time, he took on the most vital, hunting. He even shared his room and privacy. Extra time on a hunt gave him enough time to handle any of his base urges. An average person would've hoarded food and knowledge, but, when a greater calling came, he passed on the hunting skill. Teach a man to fish, they say.
Nature Lover
A calm comes over Cody when he's surrounded my nature. Unlike people, everything in nature, plants, rivers and animals welcome him. Many would blindly fight when a ferocious animal prowls them. Cody knew his place in nature; an intruder, and would flee. Disturbing the balance of nature is a last resort. Don't think he'd lay back and be eaten, his well-fed corpse would upset the balance.
Wise Guy
Early days in the orphanage lead him to be picked on. Being new, being weird, liking animals were a bullet point. Drawn out and chastised by older orphans, Cody fired back with petty jabs. Observational of his bully's shortcomings. He knew eventually he'd have to rely on these guys, he pulled his punches. This became a way of bonding, using his wit to insult and cement bonds.
~History:
~Orphan of Green
On a cold night in Bear Country, a child was left at the doorstep of an orphanage. Far away from it's capital and Earth Country. A rawhide cowboy hat rested upon the child's basket. The grisly man who left him sauntered off as a caretaker, Sister Frelia, took him in. "To Cody", written on an ace of spades card fitted into the hat's brim. A caretaker took him in wondering who left young Cody at their doorstep.
Cody never wondered, like most orphans, who his parents were. His hat seemed a major clue. It was an adult sized hat and smelled of tobacco, no matter how long it was aired out. Another clue to his legacy, a handmouth. Cody prodded at others hands wondering if anyone besides him possessed such an attachment. In tranquil times, he'd lay in grass. Taking in each flowers fragrance, each fruits flavor finding a calling in it as a profession.
Years passed, Sister Frelia grew old. She'd spent her days raising children but none who would take over the orphanage. Cody and others took up chores. Specifically, Cody hunted game with a crossbow their caretaker used. They went hungry for a few nights, until Cody got the hangs of it. He came home with a feasts worth of food, medicinal herbs, vegetables, and fruit.
They relied on him to get them food. Their thanks went unheeded by Cody. He returned to sulking about the mystery of his legacy. In a spry event, Cody's caretaker accompanied him. It was an uneventful hunt, with a week or so of food caught. She showed him a packet of tobacco which was in the band of his hat. He took in its aroma, reminiscent of his own hat eternal odor.
Days after, he locked himself in his room, researching the variation of tobacco. He'd fallen short. It's specie was common but its specific flavoring evaded his careful analysis. He'd come to a conclusion, he'd have to indulge of this mystery tobacco. On the next hunt he asked a traveler for rolling papers and a match. After a pull, he had found a additive found, mainly in Waterfall Country.
Cody didn't leave them unaided. He'd trained another to handle the food needs of the orphanage. He crossed the continent, nursing a taste for the tobacco that'd haunted him. In Waterfall's capital he found a seedy bar/smoke shop. "I'd been given this tobacco since my birth." Cody asked a patron. The patron pointed him to a tightly packed group without warning of their affiliations. "What do you know about this tobacco?" He gave the supposed leader the last pinch of his tobacco. After a whiff, he set his men on Cody.
A long brawl lead to Cody holding a pistol crossbow to the gang leaders head. His gang sprawled at his feet. Takigakure had sent its police to handle the hostage situation. As he was surrounded, Cody whispered, "Where is my father?"
"Calm Spring Lake Military Cemetery His father, a Jounin for Takigakure, had passed two years after was Cody was born. At his grave, Cody placed his hat upon his tombstone. A stiff wind blew it back upon his head. He hadn't shed a tear for his father but knew what his next move was. He joined Takigakure as a ninja.
