Description: A character with this skill is able to construct fortresses and defensive earthen works, as well as walls and castles. To put together or build a Component the user must purchase plans. Purchasing plans is half the price of the item's base cost (A base item that costs 10,000 Ryo will have plans that cost 5,000 Ryo. If an Item is rare (requires a die roll before finding said item) the die roll to purchase the plans is half than normal (Purchasing an item that has a 30% chance of finding will have a 15% chance of finding the plans to purchase). Look in the Artisan Index for more information. Each time learned user gets 2 die roll to increase the skill.

With the talks prior to entering the village of the Kage wanting him to be her builder, Jericho had made plans. However the plans had been much MUCH more extensive that his expertise commanded and thus...he came to train. With a few handseals he produced a a few crude lumps of wood from his body, and with the mastery of wood release he would be able to constantly supply himself with wood by simply absorbing nutrients and such with each jutsu. Immediately he set to work, carving at and shaping the wood into several lengths of wood that would be able to fit together in interlocking wedges.

The sun was high in the town square but he continued his work, eyes narrowed, sweating, the wood clunking softly as he cut wedges into the ends and made a makeshift wall big enough to fit maybe a grand sand castle. With two small round edge planks on the end the two middle were longer back too were rounded near the top. He only knew the basics of Earth release, but with a little tinkering he managed a very crude castle made of earth. The door he had to wedge in, and when it fell to pieces he smacked his forehead. "Alright Jericho..."

Cutting a small wedge into the back of the planks, he inserted along length of wood along the back of those upright pieces, using it to reinforce them much like they had in the older days. "That should do it..." Looking at his handiwork was not exactly awe inspiring, but he did puff up with pride slightly, a smile on his lips. "This isnt going to build an entire Keep though..."

"Eureka!" He exclaimed, pointing to the door. It was basic, nothing like what he needed to do, but he was brimming with confidence. He picked up the spare pieces, the shavings and the other odds and ends, turning them over in his hand and looking at the door he had made. Idea's came and he went to work, shaping them in ways that would make those spare pieces into spike like appendages. Those parts went in between the planks to poke anything that rammed the door. "Much too violent for a sand castle.." He mumbled, and took the door apart.

He needed more wood, and with a few simple seals, produced a plethora of plants that stacked upon each other neatly as they poured out of him. Immediately he expanded the earth castle, building upon the basic principles he had laid down and looked at the pieces of the previous door he had made. "Hmm..." the gears turned as he hefted the pieces into his hand, laying them length wise side by side and slipped two pieces beneath them that locked into place, making a bridge.

"That might work..." Jericho mumbled, scratching his chin, trying his best to recall the blueprints and drawing a terribly crude copy into the ground with him finger. "Now this goes..." Tinkering with the pieces, he attached a small bit of string he cut from his robe and made a drawbridge, the bridge entirely falling apart when he attempted to crank it. "Well then..."

From scratch he started again, squinting slightly, tinkering with the planks before deciding her was going to simply upscale. The bridge was a wash and he used those pieces for a fence instead, lining them up and spacing them at proper intervals around the earthen castle, the small space in between them reinforced with strips of sharpened wood to bite into the wood to prevent budging against anything from wind to a steady hand.

Now there had to be something he could add...perhaps a second try at the drawbridge? He produced more wood, huffing slightly, stretching somewhat as he set to work cutting the pieces into even segments and holding them very tight together. It was rather easy now and he spotted many flaws they had produced in his last attempt and corrected them immediately, his attention focused hard on making sure every pieces fit together with absolutely no spaces between them.

It was relatively simple though, adding in twine, tying it tight to the ends of each of the pieces and sliding them bridge between the fence he created and measuring them out perfectly so the end result was one long and perfectly even fence when the bridge was up

The bridge continued to look great, however it was when he looked at the castle he had create for the gate to protect that he figured it would be better to upgrade. He took heaps of compacted earth and used the basics of Earth release to shape them into tall towering walls, cutting in careful ridges and connecting the walls in a way that tied in together well enough to keep them from toppling over from just a mere gust of wind. In fact he took it a step further, adding a curved ramp to the walls to guide fierce winds away and back in the oncoming direction.

With a steady hand, he continued to hum softly, nodding to himself and looking over his work. One wall was finished and soon he began another, wiping his bro as he continued to work. The other three walls would be a very eccentric and ornate, bearing the symbol of Tsuchi no Kuni in their fortifications, a small joke between him and nature. The kage had such specific specifications in mind, interior and the like, though however simple the walls may be they needed to be powerful. The gates he was test building now were for the open gates, the common entrance where the merchants and other of the like would be entering.

It was nice looking but maybe it could use a little more, something behind the walls to keep them standing instead of trusting their inner-locking segments. In that regard he created small barricades that would rest up against the back of the wall. There would stand alone, and fortify the walls without needing anything to press up against. It was tedious work without a ruler, constantly shaving and shaving the pieces down to perfection, or having to start all over when he cut off too much. He eventually got one done, and then the others were easy, following the similar dimensions.

The fortifications were coming along perfectly! But then he let his mind wander to playful areas as he looked around to make sure none of the villagers were watching. Immediately her imagined a siege of this castle he fortified. Archers would certainly be positioned at their tops, snipers would would pick off the commanders. Yes that was it. He used the slack wood to make his bows, carving them of so carefully, crafting the small shaving into a small half moon shape that resembled a bow with no string.

It looked much like a bent toothpick and as such he simply ground out the rough edges, smoothing in into a small, almost boomerang like object that fit in his palm. It was miniature in scale to a real bow, this all for the sake of his imagination to play its part. Placing his fingers on either ends of the bow, he applied a gentle pressure to the object, watching it bend slightly before springing back into place. It was...crude in his eyes, and could be much better, but then again...who knew what the future held if he continued to work at it.

He picked up another piece and gave this one much more detail, working his wrist slowly to shave off the edge of the end, leaving a thick body to the bow. With a well defined body it would spring back easily with the wood he created. The finer the quality of wood the thinner, lighter and strong er he could make a bow.

The archers were armed! He took great muse is forming tall and ornate plants of wood form his body, carefully and skillfully manipulating them and fitting them together in a tight phalanx that would likely fall to the finest of siege weapons made. At least that was his thought on the whole ordeal. It was when he decided to add in overlapping layers to the walls that he shaved pieces of wood into wafer thin segments and measured the distance between each wall. There wasnt enough room however, and the thin slices cracked or broke all together.

"No good." He mumbled, taking those broken pieces and stacking them together. It was harder to break layers than it was to simply snap one individual piece. He used that to his advantage, slipping in the pieces on the ends of the other parts and wedging in the extension with a hole cut in the end when the next layer of walls would lock in place. These walls were higher the further out they went, specifically for the reason of demoralizing anyone from scaling them for fear of fatigue. This castle was starting to get a little out of hand.

"Hmm..." Jericho mused, standing upright and stepping over the walls of his creation and towards the castle. IT had no real means of support should the walls fall and that gave him a thought, encasing the castle in a dome of wood. It weighed down on the castle and he noticed there were cracks in the earthen base, his meager knowledge of Earth release just enough to heal these inconsistencies. This probably isnt the most ideal fortification, but if it were hasty...maybe.
