"Fear causes that which we call evil. Fear of self, fear of pain, fear of death, even a fear of asking questions which have too many answers. Well, I have faced myself and seen who and what I am, I know pain, I have overcome death! How? There is only one answer; I am a shinobi of the Hidden Sand Village. I will make this world a place where no one has to live in fear. That is my Ninja Way."

They are typically sent either on "D" rank missions, which are almost entirely risk-free jobs of manual labour, or, rarely, on "C" rank missions, which are a cut above that and begin to verge on real "ninja" work that have a very low possibility of risk to the ninja involved.

CHARACTER DEPTH
Personality:
It is only recently that the young Sunagakure Shinobi ceased to be 'the pale sickly boy with red eyes' sitting in on Academy classes he was thought too young to understand; this preconception molded him, made him reject limitations others would place on him due to size or age. As such, the young boy walks with presence, an old soul considered too polite and often displaying maturity and wisdom when others expect only the enthusiasm of youth. He is self-assured but not arrogant, well aware of just how far he has to go in order to be a real asset to his village, but confident in his own slowly developing skill. While intelligent, he still possesses a boyish bravado that prevents him from running away from a fight, even if it's the smartest option available. It would seem this is not a trait he will one day grow out of; he is brave. At his core is the principal of shinobi conduct handed down from his brother (making family ties and loyalty important to him). He believes that true weakness is refusing to stand and fight until the very end.
He approaches combat as if it were a game, though this is not said to suggest he takes it any less seriously than more seasoned shinobi. The game is his 'pretend-mindlessness'; he is so often expected to behave like a small and unfocused boy that he perpetuates this facade, usually to comic effect. His healthy sense of humor, however, often lead to his true motives being discovered, and it isn't uncommon for enemy's to notice that his unfocused stares and childish antics are a cover for astoundingly thorough tactical planning. Surprisingly enough, he is not nor has he ever been considered a 'playful' child. He goes out of his way not to speak or associate with other children (going so far as to remark that those only a few years older than himself are 'babies'), and spends most of his time alone. Solitude has made him thoughtful, but being viewed as weak for so long has also made it easy to be provoked into dangerous situations.
His most decidedly 'negative' trait of note is his inability to see past the surface of other people's personality. He is naive, a natural and expected state for someone still technically a child. Lack of experience (coupled with his own moral character) lead him to believe the best of people, to assume that others are not only capable of redemption, but are - knowingly or unknowingly - seeking it out. This allows for especially astute and manipulative individuals to always have the upper hand in their interactions. His belief that all people are intrinsically good is also a strength, as he can quickly determine unorthodox methods to solve problems that at first seem impossible to fix except through violence. Of course, such purity of heart is difficult to maintain as a shinobi, and as he has not yet been in a position where he would be forced to kill another, he experiences great apprehension towards the idea of taking someone's life.
Appearance:
A short young man, thin with only the briefest hints of athletic musculature, short red hair, large dull red eyes, and a look of impassive calm define him. He is fair featured and 'cute' in the way most children are, though his eyes carry an intensity beyond his years. He carries no tattoo's or scars, an his heart shaped face and slightly pointed ears and chin add a quality of innocence he counts on to deceive his opponents into taking him lightly. His skin is pale in complexion, almost too pale, a testament to years spent secluded from others due to an inexplicable illness whose effects only recently subsided. He has large nimble fingers and large feet, and though not the strongest physically, he is tall for his age with a form bristling with potential.
He is dressed in a manner considered slightly atypical for a Sunagakure shinobi. A high-collared black top with black pants, bandaged ankles and calves, and shinobi tabi reinforced with cheap metal. His cloak and accessories are worn without much flare, though the symbol for 'Oni' is displayed prominently on the back (center) of the cloak. His sole weapon, the Masterwork Longsword of his biological families long-disbanded cult is kept at his back, as his own short stature makes it difficult to store at his side. Various Shuriken and Kunai are hidden throughout his garment, and he wears his Sunagakure No Sato headband with pride along his forehead.
During the brief (and growing briefer) moments of off-time, his true individuality shines through. He is obsessed with animals! He prefers to relax in homemade costumes, and if they are unavailable, a simple t-shirt or haori with an animal motif is his look of choice. He prefers larger baggies pants/hakama and enjoys the 'swishing' sound they make as he moves, but frequently accentuates his personal interests by wearing large dog-paw gloves or bird-talon house-shoes, or really any other creature he can find. When not on official business, he still wears his headband, though wrapped around his waist as a belt. Whether lounging or during some deadly important affair, his sacred sword is never far away, but may be hidden in his casual wear as the tongue of some strange (but cute) beast that's taken his fancy. He keeps his Ryo in a puffy polar-bear wallet, and is unaware that polar bears are not mythical creatures.
