On the Hunt – The Gathering. [For White Raven and Asami]
No man could survive such a storm for long.
Clouds of gray sand blasted out of the nearby countries and swept across Kumogakure. The storm darkened the sun and grew so vast that it could been seen from orbiting satellites. And it was no better on the ground. For those unlucky enough to be caught in the storm, the winds scoured any exposed skin like coarse sandpaper. But the Kamyuja sent out couriers to do her work and now she was waiting. Wondering who would answer her call and be stupid enough to wonder in the storm to get to her.
In addition to this stupidity, the female Kamyuja was not only waiting for visitors, but was reading a ridiculous yellow book with printed words in which she had written a very long time ago:“It is so appropriate to colour hope yellow, like that sun I seldom saw. And as I began to copy from the old missive journals that I kept for so long, a title comes as if inspired. Open the window and Stand in the Sunshine. Yet, I hesitate to name the story that. For I think of it more as flowers in the attic. Paper flowers. Born so brightly coloured, and fading duller through all those long, grim, dreary, nightmarish days when I was held prisoner of hope, and kept captives by greed. But, I was never to colour even one of my paper blossoms yellow. Even as I write to this, this would earn me blooded thighs if I were ever to be caught. So I keep my journals secret if I can. Even if the secrets I put into my notes are placed down with tears, with bitter blood, with sour gall, well mixed and blended with shame and guilt-”
The Kamyuja looked up from her page and stared at the door. She thought she herd a knock, but when no one entered, she tossed the book aside as though it was nothing but pure, sunny yellow pages caged within her brutal hands. In the letters she sent to the Academy she fixed down a street address and the building she was willing to meet the new qualified Shinobi's. Even Shinobi's that have been qualified for some time were mentioned in her note for this gathering. The building wasn't hard to find as it was the only one of the street of trees and dirt. Run down it might look on the outside, but inside the building was large, with a built in Dojo mat to the side, a spring water fountain in the centre. And with futon mats in the far room for resting. A dinner table with a metal stove in the middle for dinner. And a cooler near the table for refreshments which come out of the Kamyuja's pocket. The inside of the building was flash as a first class motel.
But seemed empty with no body in it. “Maybe no body is interested in protecting this village any more...” Her voice would whisper sorrowfully out into the silence.
