Rain poured gently from the sky as Jinx walked, the soft falling water going pitter patter against the cobblestones of Amegakure no Sato's streets. It was nearing six p.m. and the land was now beginning to grow darker, just the type of element that Jinx felt the most comfortable in. With a smile on his face, the boy continued his walk towards his abode, a small amount of food located within his satchel. His steps through the city caused minor splashes, the water from the puddles on the ground cascading upwards through the air to land on his kimono. Here in this land, it wasn't the water that bothered him, it was himself.
His weakness.
Finally, his walk was over, and the boy entered into his domicile. Stepping through the front door, he paused for a moment to turn on the lights before removing his shoes and shaking a bit of water off of his midnight clothes. Moving towards his table, he removed his satchel from his back and placed it onto the wooden surface, eradicating his burden before moving towards his training area. A small rectangular room near the back of his home, the place had everything that he would need - a small fireplace, a floor made entirely out of dirt and sand, and a small pool of water with which he could practice manipulating the element.
Jinx knew that he was weak. He was powerless in comparison to others within this place, and that thought abhorred him in ways that he couldn't explain in words. He had abandoned everything that he had known and respected in the pursuit of power, and here he was, powerless as nobody had a right to be. It made him sick. And so he was going to change that.
When one is weak, the first thing that comes to mind is the ability to defend themselves. Jinx was no different, and as far as he knew, the best element for defense was that of the Earth. Luckily, he knew some minor cantrips of the source, and thus knew that he was capable of manipulating the ground itself to become his armor. He decided, almost spur of the moment, that it was this element that he would spend the evening practicing.
Stepping into the training room, his bare feet touching the same ground that he would be practicing with, a smile began to fill his face. Nothing made him happier than practicing his craft, and tonight would be well spent, indeed. Now into the center of the room, the man closed his eyes and began taking slow, deep breaths. The calming nature of his actions took almost immediate effect, and he could feel his spiritual energy, his chakra, his mana, responding to his call. His small amount of energy blazing throughout his body now, the boy opened his eyes and extended his hands.
The boy began to piece together some signs, focusing on those that tended to belong to the element of earth, until he could begin to feel a response. With a sudden flash of insight, the boy repeated a series of Earth zodiac symbols and then sent a pulse of his chakra into the ground. Like the Earth Shaking technique that he was already aware of, he felt a small shift in the power of the room, and small bits of earth began to shake.
His energy pulsating within his body, the boy sent a wave of it outwards once more, and to Jinx's pleasure, some pebbles on the ground began to gently roll away from his body. However, the former Venator knew that this kind of ability would be useless in any sort of display of power or authority, and he knew that he would need to do better. What could he do to increase the display? Would more chakra help the effect...?
Another burst of energy caused the rocks to roll forward once more, this time slightly more violently. Yes, that should be right. But could he do anything more with them? Taking a deep breath, Jinx performed another round of handseals. His chakra surged throughout his body, and upon the completion of the final seal, the boy sent out another burst of his mana into the ground. The rocks, this time, to his happiness, jumped a few feet off of the ground before falling back down gently. He could do so much better than that, though.
With another round of seals, the boy sent another blast of energy through the ground, this time specifically targeting a group of pebbles. Removing the final seal, the boy extended his hands, focusing on keeping a connection between the stones and himself. Turning his palms upwards, the boy began a slow lifting motion, the rocks slowly beginning to rise off of the ground as he moved his hands upwards. When they were a few feet off of the ground, they began shaking slightly, and Jinx knew that he was losing his connection to the stones. He would need to act quickly. Creating a throwing motion with his right hand, he watched as the stones flew towards the wall, striking it with a soft thrap, before falling back to the ground.
He almost had it! Determination boiling over within his body, the boy performed yet another series of handseals, releasing his chakra into the ground. The energy within his body pulsated into the ground, lifting a dozen or so small bits of earth into the air before catapulting them towards the wall as last time. When they struck their target, the boy released his handseals and breathed a sigh of relief. While this was certainly nothing flashy or powerful, it was a step in that direction.
And one day, Jinx the former Venator would be the most powerful of them all.
