Boredom hung in the air, suppressing every miniscule thought that Kira could muster.
"I'm bored." He said for the tenth time from his seat, an old wooden chair with no cushions.
"So do something productive." Harumi replied from under the soft quilts of her comfortable bed. She was supposed to be sleeping, but she was finding increasingly difficult to do so with her brother whining like a baby. "I'm trying to sleep a little before we leave." She never opened her bright blue eyes while she talked and she turned over when she finished speaking, leaving her back facing Kira. He considered what she said for a moment, coming to the same conclusion he had the first nine times he had expressed his boredom. He walked to the bedroom door, stopping in the doorway. "You're no fun. What. A. Drag."
He walked out the room, closing the door behind him. The living room had tons of space compared to the cramped bed room. Probably because they had two beds, even though they only really needed one. Harumi always wanted her sleep time separated from her brother, which didn't bother Kira at all since she was a wild sleeper and was constantly moving around. By comparison, the living room was strangely devoid of most furniture. Just an old red couch facing a wide glass sliding door, the wooden deck beyond those doors revealing a beautiful view of an evergreen forest that was sprinkled lightly with snow. There was a thick black oak desk with a matching chair in the corner of the room, and an oval shaped red rug on the floor in front of the couch.
Productive. Kira was gonna be productive while his sister was busy sleeping. Now that he thought about it, the academy instructors always told him his Henge was very good. Might as well increase his skill with it. Kira walked over to the oak desk, opening the middle of three drawers on the left side. It was full of scrolls, and he rummaged through it until he found the scroll he was searching for. He opened it, briefly scanned over its contents and then tossed it on the desk.
Kira took the black oak chair from the desk and placed it dead center on the red rug. He took a long look at how the light streamed off of its wooden surface, and he definitely made sure to take a mental note of any discoloration or blemishes the wood might have. He touched it, getting a feel for it's composition and textures. Easy. His hands flashed through a few handseals, sending his chakra surging though his body. A low vibration and a wave of warmth went through his body with it. His body began its metamorphosis, the color of his clothes and body changed first. As soon as his entire body was black like the chair, his arms and legs extended and thinned into the legs of the chair and his back extended upwards to form the back of the seat. Once the body of the chair was complete Kira went through the details of it, making sure the chair he had transformed into had the same physical characteristics of height and weight, had the same textures and that it glistened the same way when the light touched it.
He began filtering chakra into the surface of his transformation, giving it more strength. He had to focus harder to keep his transformation complete, all while putting excess chakra into it. This excess chakra was supposed to help keep him transfromed for longer periods of time, and also help him resist damage better while transformed. Now that he was entirely invested in things, he realised he had no idea on how to check his level of endurance. Luckily for him Harumi chose that very moment to emerge from the bedroom. She took a quick look around the room, fully expecting to see Kira lounging or doing something identically useless. Instead she found the scroll on the desk, and instantly understood what he was doing. Idiot. Kira would have needed her help to test the limits of this Hence technique and now that there were two desk chairs in the living room she had had a pretty good idea of what he had used for his muse.
She kicked over both chairs, unsure of which was the real deal. She didn't want to mess up the real one since they didn't have much money, but now that they were ninja she was sure they could make enough money doing missions in order to replace the chair if need be. She gripped one chair and smashed it into the other, all while she strained against the heavy weight of the oak chairs. Kira managed to take his lumps without breaking the Henge, or making a sound. His focus was starting to waver. The longer he held up against this punishment without releasing the Henge, the better of an idea he would have of how much punishment he could take while transformed. He did know however, that he didn't have much time left. He was burning through the chakra too fast.
Harumi wasn't physically strong enough to do much with her bare hands, but she was able to muster up what little strength she had. She continued slamming one chair into the other as long as she possibly could. Kira continued taking the beating for as long as he could, until the warmth of his chakra began to fade, chilling him from the inside out. He was fading fast. Harumi slammed the one chair into the other one last time. Kira seemed to materialize out of one of the chairs, landing in a heap on the floor. He sat up, sweat glistening on his brow. He worked for a moment at catching his breath, then he smiled up at his sister. "Thanks." She wiped the small bit of sweat forming on her forehead with the back of her hand.
"You're welcome." She replied with an icy tone. "Take five, then we do this again."
