The group was finally into the catacombs!
The adorable creature eagerly wiggled its way around into the primitive lock mechanism. The door swung gently open, but someone was going to have to push it the rest of the way. The little snakes tail had been strong enough to push the bolt; for it was meant to be done with a primitive key anyways, and their structural integrity was always questionable. But, fear might begin to take the hearts of the members of the group, as the accepted theory was that all the archaeologists met their end in this place. But, if that were so, who kept locking the door?

Were the door pushed open, it would reveal a ten-meter hallway leading to a steep flight of stairs, which lead into something indiscernible in the dark.

W

ith a simple gesture of his hand the Godaime ordered Tenskwatawa to push the door open. Before them hallway started to stretch out into the darkness. For the Godaime however this was no problem. The blood of dragons that flowed through his veins (please don’t think about how that could have gotten there), had always granted him with an uncanny ability to see in the dark. That, and the green light emanating from his eyes gave him more than enough to see quite clear in the dark.

Still, there was no harm in sending Tenskwatawa in front of him. She folded her wings on her back and slithered forth slowly towards the stairs. With her heat sensing the creature had another way of discerning things from the darkness next to her already more perceptive animal senses. Zewak curled up on the shoulder of his summoner, wrapping the end of his tail around his masters biceps to remain in place. Its little head swung in various directions as a second set of eyes, him too having activated a sixth sense.

Once the creature had reached the steps and signaled the ‘all clear’- code with the tip of her tail Gosei would beckon the others in the group to follow. ”Okay, try to stay in the tracks of Tenskwatawa and stay weary of traps.” he whispered, before he would start to move slowly towards and eventually up the stairs, trying to stay low at the entire time. Peeking over the top of the stairs the Godaime would try to observe what was there before deciding what to do next.

Small lines of white will flash across the eyes like lightning bolts and continually do so as long as the eye is active. The glowing continues and on top allows for the eyes to slightly even light up in their respective color. With the Final stage of the Ryuugan Doujutsu unleashed, it allows the user to see the elements of Lightning, Air, and Water within one's viewing parameters. One's natural sight is also enhanced giving the capability of 8x zoom capabilities. The user sees the elements as three new, vibrant, and opaque colors that mesh perfectly with their normal vision, giving the user the ability to see the three elements without hindering their normal vision in the slightest. Of course normal vision can hinder this special sight, as the user cannot see through walls or other things as normal. Once the user reaches C Rank they no longer have to do handseals to activate the eyes.

Abysmal darkness cornered the visual acuity of Mikutashi and for a moment, he found himself lost. In a movement, the boy had showed his prowess in the Fire element; having found a piece of wood laying wantonly about, he used Katon in order to create a torch to aid he and his companions in the enclosing darkness. The serpent was at the helm in front of its summoner and Mikutashi and the twins behind he.

His head turned around slowly as he attempted to observe any noticeable thing standing out amongst the darkness. Earlier, he had felt a connexion with one of the murals and hoped for another encounter of the resonating kind.

The team was advancing into an enclosed space. The type of area where danger amplified itself. If anything were to go wrong, the entire group could get caught if they remained too bunched together. It was time to keep a bit of insurance standing outside.

Vi remained behind and did not follow the group. After showing Gosei the scroll, there was no item of priority that she needed to attend to. Instead, Tanni was the one to head to the dark hallways beneath.

The ground still occupied Tanni's right hand. It might be important for the group's advancement, or it may just be an artifact with some special effects. Still, since there were no changes to the area above, the crown had more chances of being useful down below.

Since the girls still had their soul linked, Vi could wait for an alert to any change in Tanni's status.

Until then, Vi found herself a seat, likely a rock of some sort, and waited. She kept rattling the ancient coins about. These faces didn't bring out any important memories, but she still studied them. They were at least somewhat interesting.

The group would advance down into the catacombs, sending the snake ahead of them. The snake would go down ahead of them, the huge behemoth. It slithered on foot, and in no way was incorporeal. Perhaps that was the true mistake that was made. For when the snake was almost of sight, the group saw a huge explosion of fire. The thing would be sent back to whence it came. The poor beast! The fire was devastating! The heat was felt even from back where the party was standing. The light would flash, blinding the group momentarily. In the aftershock of the burst, the eyes of Mikutashi would be quick to spot that there was a huge and loose piece of stone down where the snake was. No doubt, that was the culprit. If the group was not careful, and if they did not avoid touching that, it might spell their demise.

he strategy had been a success, rather than igniting himself the Godaime saw his summon go up in flames. Not that it really mattered, she still had enough of them left. In a few weeks he would be able to summon Tenskwatawa again. With his low light vision and zooming capabilities Gosei would be able to easily spot the loose stone that apparently worked as a switch for the trap. ”We should avoid that switch that looks like a stone. I want to conserve chakra. Any of you got a clone up your sleeve we can you use as a sacrifice for possible traps?” he inquired.

Before his eyes, the snake summon of Gosei was vanquished by a spat of flame coming from somewhere inside the darkness. The Amenin lifted his hand to protect his eyes from a quick, blinding light; upon reopening them, he noticed a mundane trap fixed into the stone work of the ground. For a second, he wondered if more lay ahead but then the former Shadow of Konoha put forth a suggestion.

"From the shadows, I can create a double of myself---perhaps that will work in testing for any more traps." After speaking, the boy began a set of hand seals pertaining to the illusion realm of shadow. In seconds, a gelatinous black blob emerged beside him and would quickly contour to Mikutashi's form by way of chakra manipulation. The Shadow Double would then rush forward, perhaps an anxious variant of the boy's mind that could no longer be held back by these ninja of Leaf. Sure to avoid the initial trap, it went on to test the fortifications of the ruins, to see had anything else lay within the murk.

Had that not been possible to pull off, then maybe the kunoichi duo were capable of creating tangible bunshin.

Shadow Double

The Shadow Double attacks any adjacent target (regardless of the weapon it appears to wield), as the user desires, starting in the round when they perform the Jutsu. It attacks on the user's turn once each round. After the attack the Shadow Double becomes a Shadow once again until the next round to appear and strike for that round while repeating the process. Each hit deals 1 point of Movement damage to the target. Tanni still wore Tarah's mono-goggle over her left eye, which was still set to X-ray. Alongside that, the mono-goggle still had the anti-flash lens, which should have prevented too much light from entering the goggles, and thus allowing Tanni's left eye to avoid being blinded.

If it needed confirmation, Tanni could see the flash's point of origin, to better pinpoint the mechanics of the trap that was set off.

Along with that, Tanni could confirm something of significance. With the X-ray vision present in her mono-goggle, she could see through up to two meters worth of solid objects, so she could inspect the solid space around the trap. If there were parts impedded in the floor, walls, or ceiling, then it was a mechanical trap. If there were no such parts, then it was a enchantment of some sort, like the crown's electrical effect.

Tanni told her companions about her findings. She also offered a suggestion, "If it's a mega-old trap, then it's usually for people that walk on the floor, right? We can dodge all that jazz if we walk on the ceiling, I think."

The group was now better situated to observe the trap. The hallway was long, but narrow enough that it would not be possible to avoid the large movable stone in the center without intentionally doing so. Upon further observation, it would be noted that large metal plates would be on the walls, their purpose unknown. The eyes, or all the eyes except one left eye, were barely able to see at this point, and would be an unreliable sense to depend upon. Of course, special visions would still be working fine, but the visual part of the eye was hampered. When the group approached the trap, they would be able to see that the door to whatever lay ahead was in site.

Solus: Although he was able to examine the thing closely, the true knowledge would come to his summon. The beast would sense that heat was quickly being dissipated by that metal plate, and sinking out into the outside world. Normally, a stone hallway would retain heat rather well, but that plate drew out tons of heat and quickly, making the environment return to normal very quickly. Gosei himself would be able to see some quick wind chakra being used, blowing things off the stone. While that was nice, there obviously was nothing to blow off.

James: The young shinobi would quickly catch that the gate behind them was now closed. He was sharp enough to notice that, despite it being quiet and subtle, designed not to be noticed. He would also feel something blowing gently in the hallway from where he stood.

Nira: With her quick ability to register what went on, she would have seen the blast in detail. She watched the snake cause the stone to shift slightly, and then the fireball would ignite in midair, exploding outward. This was not a mechanical trap, but one of chakra, or some other energy. Her X-ray vision would allow her to see under the stone, where there was an elaborate combination of glyphs and chakra devices. A small crystal was under there, inside of a sealed chamber that was inaccessible. A moment before the explosion, there was no active chakra there, but the moment of it there was a whole chakra system moving things around and fueling a jutsu. Something about that crystal allowed the trap to store chakra without circulating it. It immediately severed after sending some bursts of chakra into the air around the plate.

Quick to the draw of chaos, Mikutashi performed the handseals for a rather simple Genjutsu. His chakra seemed to quickly bubble across his body as shadows boiled up like warts over his skin. This umbral-skin would be his escape ticket, having keenly observed the closing of the large gate behind he and the two Leaf ninja. With a well-timed Ken'in, he pushed backwards towards the thing and went to quickly open it to slide out. Even though he had chosen to try to mask his efforts by illusion and speed, he didn't care if either one of the two, or both of the ninja, saw him. He was free to move as he pleased; he had ambitions in Amegakure and could unfortunately not be held back by the dubious ruins of Fire.

Some time later, maybe, he could return to the university and learn more about mosaic he had seen; perhaps then he would find time to explore some ancient cavern, but for now, his eye was set on promotion.

here was no reason the rush, thus, with a gesture to the lady Gosei would signal that they were to wait as the wet carrot suddenly left at a brisk pace. They could wait for as long as it took for their eyesight to fully return. Once this was over with The Kazeraikou would concentrate for a split of second, turning his body into that of a ghost. The plates at the sides of the hall were for dissipating the heat apparently. And then there was this weird wind suddenly blowing to clear the hallway.

Despite having no physical body and thus no weight to trigger the plate, Gosei still made a big point of moving around it without touching the plate on the ground and the walls, just to be sure. It was that little human irrational part of the mind. You know it is impossible, yet you still evade it, just to be sure. Swiftly he should reach the other side unharmed.

And again, another from the team had left them. Perhaps the confines of the limited space was proving too much of a chore for them to bother with. Still, Tanni stuck along with Gosei. She didn't wish to abandon a request before it was completed. She'd hate to disappoint the benefactor.

Vi still waited outside, and thus she would see the companion as he left. Since he didn't really address her, she paid it to mind. It just meant that there were now two in the depths.

Seeing that Gosei used a ghost ability to bypass the trap, Tanni did the same. She made sure to wait and see if Gosei made it through without a problem, first. It wouldn't be worth the risk if ghosting through the area still set something off. Since she now knew that Gosei had the same density manipulation ability as her, and that no other witnesses were present to see the ability, Tanni lowered her own density with the same ability.

Once done, if everything was alright, Tanni slipped into the walls in her incorporeal form, and joined the Hokage on the other side.

That just left the door ahead. If there were no issues up to this point, Tanni kept her incorporeal status active as she attempted to walk through the door that lead to the area ahead.

As the pair passed over the plate, they would feel that the thing did not move. No doubt, it was triggered to explode when something heavy touches upon it and it shifts, not when chakra passes into the area. This was an interesting design on several accounts. Firstly, it was unclear how a person who belonged down here would pass the hallway. Secondly, it was unclear why a nation so adept with chakra would not target the chakra circulatory system when detecting human beings. There was something awry at this site, something not quite completely aligned with exactly what people consider fact about the empire...

The Dragon of Konoha would stop outside the door. He was waiting for his partner, but his partner did not know the same caution he did. She used her incorporeal status to quickly pass through the heavy iron door. As she passed through the barrier she would feel her chakra rebelling, some small part of her chakra nature was trying to keep her from crossing this barrier. Of course, Tanni would realize, it was not just the pull of her own chakra, but the crown she was holding. It would not be able to pass through. Although, on closer inspection, she saw a slot similar in size to the crown in the wall, a faint circular indent. Her goggles would help her to identify that there were countless crystals embedded in the walls around here. They were no doubt making this enchantment happen.

astily Tarah, who seemed to insist in being called ‘Tanni’ now tried to move ahead but was somehow restricted. Interesting how this happened. Gosei’s activated Kazeraikou eyes, with their keen sense for details were quick to note the circular slot. Surely it was no coincidence with the crown they had found. Both slot and crown or key, however you regarded it seemed to be of the same size. ”It looks like the crown has to go in there, but I don’t like the look of those crystals.” the Dragon of Konoha remarked to his last remaining companion aside those he had summoned himself.

Extending his arm Gosei made Zewak slide off. Opening his wings and fluttering about in front of Gosei. ”Let’s do this the safe way, give the little guy the crown and let us stand back a bit.” Gosei said, standing a bit as to be out of range from any contraptions. Luckily his still incorporeal form prevented him from activating any hidden switches. Once the lady had handed over the object to the Couatl the creature would flutter with the crown in its beak, slowly edging closer to the slot and eventually inserting the item.

Tanni looked down at her shiny crown with pursed lips. She acknowledged that Gosei had a good plan, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to follow it.

"Okay," she agreed after a few more moments of thought. "I better get it back, though."

Beneath the surface personality, doubt festered. A few of the Phoro fragments figured that, even if the crown was never taken or destroyed, it would still need to be returned to the benefactor in the university. The possibility that it could be kept was slim.

Still, Tanni was in some denial. She really grew attached to the piece of metal during the short few minutes she spent with it. It took a huge period of hesitation before she finally handed it over to Gosei's summon.

During this time, Tanni returned to a corporeal form. If the door wasn't letting her through, she wanted to keep the ability to touch. She needed to switch anyway, to hand off the crown.

The pair decided it was in their best interest to use the crown. It would likely open the door, but they were afraid that the whole place was trapped. That was a valid concern, considering they had just crossed a platform capable of bringing fire down form above. They were allowing a summon to complete the task for him, as they dare not risk their lives on the safety of this door.

The crown would set nicely into the door. Immediately, a glow of chakra, visible even to the naked eye, would spread through the door. On the door, a glowing space, about the size of a human being, would begin glowing. Before long, that would turn into a door itself, that door in turn of course was closed. But, this one happened to have a sort of knob on it, a handle which no doubt would open the door. The summoned creature was completely unharmed by this activity. To the eye capable of seeing chakra, several of the jewels in the doorway were seen to become inactive. Now, all that was left was to go inside, right?

or some reason Tarah was having trouble with parting from the device. ”Yes, we will definitely take it back on our way out.” Gosei noted, seeing how chakra would spread over the surface in front of them and would form a door on a door? Using his sensor senses he would try to analyze what was happening to the objects before him as much as possible. Around the doors the chakra emanating from the crystals would lessen. That however meant that some were still working. Maybe the ritual for opening the door was not complete?

At least it had a handle they could operate. ”Zewak, open that.” Gosei would order, prompting the snake to wrap his body around the handle. If the weight of the serpent would not prove to be enough the creature would wrap the end of his body firmly around the handle and then flap its wings furiously in the direction the handle was supposed to turn in order to open it. After all, the creature was still a half a meter long magical summon and therefore quite strong in this respect. If he would not be able to twist it Gosei would not either.

Tanni, kept back from the summon as it operated under Gosei's orders. For now, there was no reason for her to act.

Similarly, Vi was still staying in place outside.

The snake, after flapping its wings and exerting a rather sizable effort, was able to open the door, revealing a long, but well-lit corridor ahead. Looking ahead, one could see a wide flight of stairs, prescribing something more akin to an underground throne room. But, fast as the wind itself, something would come out of the room, followed immediately by a deep and ehcoing voice. The thing was a wisp, a moving emboidement of wind chakra. It had a body, but the body seemed to be held together by wind, and prescribed entirely of it. It would stand right in the doorway, looking completely human, but also, to the sight of chakra, seeming to be a huge emobidment of wind and chakra. The human form which it took was an olive skinned man wearing a bronze breast plate and helmet, but it was not this man that spoke, but another, who was standing somewhere back. Nonetheless, the voice was loud and you could not miss it. Yet, any one who was not very skilled in Latin would be unable to understand it. He used relatively complex grammatical constructs, including indirect statements, and his syntax showed nothing of Common, he left the verb at the end of the sentence, the way it was meant to be, but a practice many common speakers fell out of.  "After all this time, what fool has come to free us? Show yourself to me! And if you are he that sent the snake, know that your blatant assault is forgiven. Come now, swear your fealty to me, and my empire will rise again."

The voice that spoke was loud, it was indubitably male, but nonetheless it was an attractive, smooth and warm voice. It seemed honsetly grateful, but like a voice that was used to dominating, commanding. The room itself was lit with torches powered by chakra, but little could be seen until that wind powered being in front of the door moved. The man in the doorway stepped aside slightly, allowing one to enter, but it still stood in the way, so a fast run to the other end of the room would be impossible without doing something to knock him down. The moment was there, the pair could choose to go inside, and investiagate the voices, but they knew already they would be at least matched in numbers, and in a ground familiar to the enemy.

No chakra-related traps were visible immediately past the door, but, to one who used their sensory vision to 100 meters, they would be able to flesh out a huge hall, over 100 meters in length. And, 75 meters down, there was another crown similar to the one in the wall sitting on a pedestal. They could see two more poeple, one of fire and one of lightning, very similar to the first, wearing bronze armor, and standing at the bottom of the stairs. The stairs were out of sight until somebody entered the room.
