Adelpha gripped the balcony railing and stared down at the gorge that fell away with jagged promise beneath. From here, the rocks looked like sharp teeth, ready to bite and tear and rip. She tightened her hold as the icy wind threatened to tumble her into their unforgiving jaws. Looking up rain fell in a steady pace, landing in her lavender hair and upon her porcelain skin. Releasing the railing, she left the balcony and exited her home. With a scroll in hand, the female marched her way toward the drenched coated village in search of prey.

Even at this time, the night was alive. It was energetic, with the heartbeat of a thousand people. She walked among them, unseen, undetected and she moved with the fluid grace of a jungle predator. Their scents were strong in her nostrils. Cloying perfume. Sweat. Shampoos. Soaps. Alcohol. The sweet insidious smell of blood. There were so many of them in this suburb. Cattle. Sheep. Prey. The village was the perfect hunting ground.

Satisfied with her variety of pickings she turned sharply toward the left and made her way up the slope toward the peaks that tower over the village. A neat patch of grass near the edge was the perfect resting spot and she sat down gingerly before opening the scroll and laying it out before her. This is a good one, sister. Apocalypse. And once we learn this, we would officially master Pattern Perception. It says here that it is a fear, mind affecting technique, my kind of jutsu. We perform the seals, release the illusion chakra and then create the Armageddon.

Her voice was soft and excited, and as she read out the instructions her excitement grew. Before long she was a giggling child of five years instead of that of her appropriate twenty four years and with her hands, she would make out the hand seals which show in diagrams steps on paper. 30 of them, and how ridiculous she thought. Firstly her hands fell into the seal: Horse. “Uma” She would say and her fingers will slip into their areas: both elbows out, index fingers form a triangle. And the rest of the fingers lock together. The next was the Ram, then the Dragon, but the list still goes on.

And once she reached the end of deals required for this jutsu, she starts all over again. 30 seals to go thought, and she has to remember them all. Uma, Hitsuji, Tatsu… And she continues to say each name until she remembers them. The process was slow like a snail. But like all learnings, slow is the key to success, soon this will be fast. And so her training begins. Slowly at first, but then it will increase.

Her first step was to learn all the seals in their right order, and then she will continue to learn them until the speed increases. After both have been made, she will do her chakra sending. And then lastly she will cast the jutsu. Patience the key now, and time will only tell then.

In and out her fingers formed the seals. All 30 of them, and each time she past them, she would say their correct names, and every so often her eyes would dart to the scroll laid out before her to make sure she was doing it correctly, but otherwise it was done by memory. Saru, Ne, Mi, Inu, U, Uma, Mi, I, Hitsuji, U… The process was painful and eternally slow. But it had to be done, and her motivation was strong. Pain continued to lace every seal. All the twisting of fingers, it looked abnormal but she was surprised and impressed by how many seals she could do.

Before it was more of the fact that they were drilled into her that she did not think much about it when she used them. But now she was surprised by every seal she knows, foolish by how she had taken these painful seals by granted. This was a form of torture. Ox and Horse seals was the worst. Her fingers were not made to bend that way, but it was the power they held over that made them special. That and her chakra of course.

Saru, Ne, Mi, Inu, U, Uma, Mi, I, Hitsuji, U… Her speed has not increased, yet she had been over the seals for almost fifteen minutes. Sweat laced her forehead, and her hands were red and swollen. As she continued to time herself, she remembered the time when she first learned how to eat using chopsticks. The pain! It was a horrid experience, and if she did not do it correctly, she would eat like a dog, with her hands tied behind her back. Painful times.

Back in reality she would find herself staring down at the village folks, watching them fool themselves over such stupidity. Yet here she lived within them, walked the same streets, and eat from the same stores. But these people was worthless. Like sheep but uglier. Sure they made up our village and keep us strong, but beside that they were pointless spaces within the Earth natural needs. Ugh, Ushi, Uma, Hitsuji, U, Ne, Tatsu, The never-ending process.

But at least now she remembers the order. And so now she focuses of speed. After all she has all the time in the world to learn this. And in the end it was the feeling of accomplishment that’s what she leans toward. And so: Ushi, Uma, Hitsuji, U, Ne, Tatsu… All 30 seals one after the other. She will be fast at this in no time and soon the fools below will witness her abilities as a Genjutsu Specialist. Suffer, so that I feel good!

“It’s working, it’s working! I am actually getting somewhere!” The female would laugh foolishly as her fingers swing into motion from one seal to the next. 30 altogether and the pace was slowly quickening, but not fast enough. The pain was there but now bearable, but the discomfort it brings was a nuisance. “C’mon! C’mon! Faster, push past the limit! Almost there! All-most there!” She knew she sounded like she was having an orgasm but she didn’t care. Her hands were about to fail her and fail was not an option.

Adelpha closed her eyes against the discomfit, and there was that moment, that every-repeating instant, when everything inside her hissed that it wouldn’t work, that she was wasting her time. Then she thought of her breath, and emptied her brain. Her focus aligned on the quick warm creek within her veins, the power of ease flex against her ribs and fingers, the deliberate drumming inside her ears. It felt like every fibre and thought of herself fusing into another, until her mind and her movements merged to a single thing, seamless and bright, like a glowing radar dot. It felt like: yes-yes. And her eyes leapt open, and as her fingers moved, it was focused, fine.

The pain and discomfort seemed insignificant now and the female simply flew through the seals with ease. The speed wasn’t great, but at least her fingers were no longer tangling up. The ringing in her ears surely was the sound of the world shattering. It was louder than the air whistling around her as it tore leaves the colour of fire and blood from the trees, and louder than the hum of the community below as they travelled through the night either ordering dinner of simply having a break from Shinobi life. If such ever allow the break. Adelpha had pulled back and re-entered her mind and approached Amarantha with the stride of arrogance and power with every step. Right at the last minute of the merging of souls, something happened leaving the progress shattered for all good.

But both have come to an understanding and preferred it that way. “I was wondering when you will return, and I see that you are training. The fingers are not killing you yet?” Amarantha’s compelling voice whispered into the darkness of the chambers within her mind.
Of course not. But I am so bored. Care to take control?
The slip of ownership lasted momentarily and before long Amarantha was in the seat with her fingers burning through seals. The process felt sick when shifting personalities, but after the brief merge attempt at least the process of shifting seemed easier. The feeling however will always be the same, the twist and pull and the burning and melting of bones type of feeling. Beggars can't be choosers...

Ushi, Uma, Hitsuji, U, Ne, Tatsu… All 30 seals names continued after the beginnings. And slowly by slowly the speed crept. At first it was stiffly one seal, pause, second seal, pause, now it was one, two, three seal, pause, for, five, six, seven, pause. Soon it will be fast, and by the time she had ended the jutsu it will be lightening quick, well it better be. Amarantha hummed softly as she peered down at the village below, and as her hands averagely went through the seals, she would being to set herself with the process Adelpha left for her: Handseals learnt first with speed included, chakra casting second as in sending forth her chakra to those waiting below, Genjutsu chakra, and then thirdly, she would create the illusion by manipulating the flow of chakra within her victim’s brain…

“The night is full of mystery. Even when the moon is brightest, secrets hide everywhere. Then the sun rises and its rays cast so many shadows that the day creates more illusion than all the veiled truth of the night. I have lived in this illusion for much of my life, but I have never belonged to it. Before my birth, I existed for too long in the realm between nothingness and life, and even now, the night still whispers to me. A strong cord binds me to the dark side of the world, and shields me from the light…”

Snapping back to the present, she wondered bitterly if the halfwits below will realize that when the jutsu is cast, will they realize what is happening around them. Surely the more experienced shinobi’ will but then again they were not much of a worry, they have to find her first. She was lost in thought when all of a sudden her knuckles collided with one another and a sharp pain formed around the swelling of sores. An unfaithful word escaped her lips before she could stop it and she ribbed her fingers tenderly.

“Focus, Focus.” She muttered to herself before she performed again, her hands neatly found the rhythm again. A few twist and tucks here and then she stared down at the scroll which laid out upon her lap. Everything was correct, and the speed, good but not brilliant. But without a doubt it will do fine. The Kamyuja released the seal, reflex her fingers and then peered down in search for a weak mind. The cattle like people belong all seemed to be unaware of her presents, and that suited her fine.

Her eyes fell upon an old man smoking on a pipe. He looked high as a kite which suited her fine. He was a simple target and weather it worked or not it did not really matter. She had all night. In a fury of 30 hand seals, the Kamyuja preformed the correct symbols and awakened her chakra. The scroll read that this particular technique affects anyone in a ten area three meter cube per class level. With that in mind, it also read that the user will be able to perform this jutsu at a distance of thirty meters plus fifteen meters per class level, and with her math calculations always correct, the distance will be great. Lastly it will last five minutes per class level and that is a lot of time to play with.

Gently, not rushing the moment, not wanting to make any mistakes, she sent forth her Pattern merged chakra toward the smoking git. The distance was roughly three meters down so to expand it later will be easy due to it not being the maximum. Slowly her chakra reached the man who was oblivious to what’s about to happen to him and easily slipped into her chakra network. This man was a retiree, she was sure of it. Slowly but surely, her chakra worked its way through the points within and soon as it entered his brain columns, she hoped for the best…

Manipulating the flow of chakra in her victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses had always been rather easy. What was required was patience, time, and also skill. You had to know where to look and how to twist it to your own needs instead of their own. Chakra was power, but it can be used for you or against you. This male didn’t see it coming. Once moment, he was puffing away then all of a sudden his heart was exploding within his chest.

Panic was such a lovely thing to witness, and this man could not understand why it was hot all of a sudden. At first he looked down at his smoke, debating if it was time to quit smoking or not, and then he looked up and saw the world around him in flames. But through the Kamyuja’s eyes the world was normal, he was the only one seeing the fire, and he was the only one panicking over it. Influencing his chakra which controls his senses: Sight, Smell, Touch, Sound and Taste, she had control over him in ways he had no idea of. He sees the fire and feels the heat, and if he were to touch the flames he would feel it also, and why not? If he can feel it then he sure as hell can smell it.

This was real to him, and him alone. He scrammed to his feet, the movements dislodge the pipe from his lips, but he did not seem to realize. The others looked at him strangely, not having a clue what was wrong with the man who was commonly known as a saver of the country for many accounts, brave and smart. If flames could stress him like this then he must be seeing something else, and indeed he was because just then the Kamyuja created an earthquake. To him he was panicking because he didn’t want to fall into the toothed ground. From his area he was looking down into hell, darkness with the light at the end. Lava was rising.

His pitiful cry was amusing to the Kamyuja but as she studies him more closely, she noticed the tell-tale of his hands direction when it touched his chest. He was having a heart attack. He was old after all. The Kamyuja was going to allow him to suffer, but then thought differently right at the last second before he collapsed and released the jutsu on him. She watched, sluggishly as the village gathered around him, two medics on both his sides. He was loved yet the Kamyuja was alone. Hatred build over the compassion of her trust within her own village.

And ignoring the warning signs of fatigue she summoned up her chakra and rage and let them have it. Her cry was an animosity. Full of so much emotions that when her hands slapped together to from the hand seals, she did not care if the villagers below her saw her or not. She was going to make them suffer. Her chakra raced out into the open, reaching the maximum range of her capabilities an aggressively entered their bodies by their tenketsu. She ruthlessly allowed her chakra to control them and as soon as her chakra was within their minds, taking authority over all their senses, she casted the illusion.

“Embrace the Shadow of Armageddon!” Her cry echoed throughout the night. Torn from her throat and clashed into the air around her. Feel my rage, my pain. Suffer all! She was beyond pain now, and as she awakened the Genjutsu she wanted it to be realistic as possible, even though she doesn’t have much of an imagination. Her mind was working on so many levels, from books to movies, everything possible yet hardly anything.

The temperature plummeted and the smell of salt fills the air instantaneously. The weather once warm and dry with no cloud in the sky becomes increasingly violent. But instead of the skies growing black or grey with clouds, the skies appeared dark purple, yet still darkening. Meanwhile on ground, the Earth tears and shifts creating numerous ground fissures, the earthquake destroying the area quickly, lava rises from the ground in fountains, spitting hot liquid and rocks in every direction and as the Earth crusts continues to shift, it instantaneously caused deafening sounds to full the area.

Hot steam and gas coat the area giving off a poisonous smell. Acid forms as the replacement of condensation and burns everything it touches, that included the people caught in the area. The sky instantly opens up and began to hail down. Frozen rain touches the ground, coating everything in ice almost instantly. Hail stones the size of soccer balls hits everything in its path, shattering windows, hitting people, coating the ground and not melting.

To join the hailstones, millions of small Ice pellets join the fall. Lightning strikes the skies, lightening the purple in some areas, darkening others to that of almost black. And then tornadoes form. Four of them and the winds was the only thing that sounded the entire area.

The Kamyuja imagined everything she could to the pinpoint of detail. The purple skies idea seemed pathetic, but has one ever lived through an extinction event much yet seen one? With everything being close to real, that was all that mattered. And hearing the screams and cries of people down below her was enough to calm her. She was overworked, exhausted and as her Genjutsu was released by one member down in the village, she decided to cancel the jutsu altogether. But it wasn’t the end yet, she just needed to sleep.

She found herself lying on her back in the long grass with the cliff inches to her right. If she had rolled over she would have plummet possibly to her death. Her head felt like it was stuffed full of cotton wool, but through the haze an image flashes repeatedly like a neon sign. Her test trial was fun, but it was only that, a test trial. The village below was empty now apart from some wondering shinobi studying the brief experience. Surely they knew it was a Genjutsu, right?

Surely they could not be that dumb. Criticizing the villagers will have to wait though as the Kamyuja had to now look for another public place. But where? She found herself at the hospital; inside she had easily past the receptionist and was now staring through the window at innocent people lying in beds. Tilting her head to the side causally she wondered if she could really do it. After a moment’s thought she blended into the darkest corner and knelt down. Her hands slipped into the hand seals and then she released her chakra out swiftly.

It left her pores and flowed undetected, into the air of the hospital. The sound of beeping machines and casual talking was a blended chorus of sound as her chakra seek’ out those places and before long, the causal talking had changed to a surprised scream. The Kamyuja had imagined hundreds of zombies in the area suddenly, and since the ladies talking before had been so engrossed in their conversation they wouldn’t take note of what was around them until the very last moment. These zombies looked freshly made, not fake. The hair still had their natural gloss as to those who were alive, but these illusions were dead and the giveaway was the blood, torn flesh and missing body parts.

Cheesy she had to agree but this area was a poor held company. Those who would rather talk to one and other instead of checking on the sick deserved to be punished. And so she chanced the sound, and invented the growling sounds from the walking dead, to the increased should of water dropping from sudden cracks in the walls and ceilings. The lights would flicker on and off, and the sound of an alarm would go off somewhere. Amarantha would increase the groaning sounds until it sounded cold and unnatural and to mix with that she would create the sounds of screaming, a chilling sound. Amarantha would then change the hallways.

Once bright and clean, very clean, she imagined blood sprayed all over the walls, human meat on the floors, and bloody hand prints everywhere, some intact some swiped on the white walls for effect. The Kamyuja then decided to make it worthwhile as the screaming receptionist had not moved a step since the illusion. She gave the woman her own female zombie to play around with, and as the pasty coloured zombie touched the receptionist and chomped its mouth on flesh skin, the scream became a gurgle of pure terror. Amarantha just hoped that the woman would fall unconscious and not fall dead from a heart attack…

The sound of running filled the hallways next, and the screams and sobbing from the medical wards changed to dead silence. It was abnormal. The hallways continued to change, with its overhead lights flickering, and the blood appearing everywhere, but now there was a constant screeching sound of nails on walls. Loud bangs and smoke as though this was hell and not the heaven which a hospital was supposed to represent. Besides the banging the building seemed to make, everything else was dead silence.

Not even a drop of water was made. Not even a beep from the monitors made a sound. Everything was cold and still. The overhead lights finally have its last shine before total darkness spread out and over took the hospital. The darkness was alive, and it was hungry. The shadows twisted like vines and snapped like dogs at anybody in the Genjutsu, heels. And the bite was solid enough to menace but not enough to cause real damage. But if one were to not seek out light soon, it will devour their minds whole. Amarantha made it a mind attack. Their bodies beneath the blankets in the hospital beds might make the kids feel safe, but even its dark underneath the blankets. Her chakra began to alternate their senses and before long their little minds were under her control.

Unexpectedly a hand shot from the darkness and tore the sheets off the children in the bed. Each of her cries and screams fed the darkness until it was too dark to even see before their very own faces. One by one zombie nurses approached the bedside, soaked in blood, pale, so pale that they shone in the darkness, and black coal eyes stared from pale rims. The children screams became a chorus of terror and before long they even began to vomit. They were already sweating. The zombie nurses smiled, showing blood stained teeth, sharp with pieces of flesh stuck between their teeth and slowly they all held up a syringe. They all moved in unison and so did the children.

The children tore from their hospital room and ran out into the hallway. One by one they all skid on the ground, skidded on the blood. It was hard for them to see, and Amarantha made it even darker. But within the darkness, she made it out so that the children could see shapes moving in the darkness, and sounds like dogs tearing and growling. Amarantha watched as one child pissed his pants. The yellow staining the medical gown and dripping to the blood soaked tiles below. The sound of footsteps made the children run for the opposite side.

The illusion changed so that the hallways in that area was brightly lit. But the hallways were much more worse than before. Blood was thick like rivers in some areas, and chunks of meat was decorated everywhere, on the floor, walls and even the ceilings. The air conditioning was working but instead of fresh air pumping through, Amarantha altered the smell to that of iron, and raw meat. Everything was dead. A scream from the far end of the hallway made the children shriek out also and before long, Amarantha ended it by allowing shapeless forms of shadows to tare after the children, fingers out and greedy. They made no sound but their speed was impressive, the children had no chance.

Crimson light suddenly spilled into view, engulfing the entire world in a sickly shade of blood red. The buildings were a maroon colour, the lakes and ponds were black, the streets reddish brown, yet the sky was a bright blood crimson red. The world now looked as if it was a miniature structure that was dipped in blood. Even the trees looked nasty. The wind or any type of breeze ceased, leaving the place to be eerily silent, in fact despite the heavy breathing one would make in such conditions not even that could be heard.

This was death. Before was what would be a typical sunny autumn day, now appeared a blood red dead silent town. Creatures of all sizes roamed the streets, each wearing hungry expressions and emitting tormented wails. Those wails were the only sound you could hear. Drifting, slithering and dragging their large bodies around the buildings, searching for any life that may inhabit the area.

If any movement were spotted by these horrid creatures, chaos would soon follow. A frenzy of screams and violent thrashing would occur as the creatures rip apart the bodies of the one moving. This world was not the type of world people would want to live or travel around in… The Kamyuja had it down. This was it, her masterpiece.

She had cancelled her Genjutsu at the hospital as everybody there was too traumatize by her creation, by her hatred. Now she had awakened it in the centre of the village, where only a selected few got chosen and not all. One old man, one old woman, and two teenagers were locked in her illusion. And as she stared at them now, their bodies frozen but their mind weak from the affect the Illusion was causing them, she knew it was only a matter of time before their minds too broke down from her torture.

She tampered their chakra and brain controls and mixed matched them until they were sweating with terror. What they saw would remain with them for a while yet, as this was by far the most real illusion she had ever created. The smell, touch, sight and sound was blended completely, like an art project. Her victims never noticed the difference. They truly believed that hell had leaked into the world…

The four stranger’s outer bodies were still and locked. Paralyzed due to being held in the illusion, yet within their minds it was another story. They were running, vomiting, screaming and crying. And they were covered in blood, not dry as in the real world, clean and smelling of smoke and sweets. This is what they witness in the Kamyuja’s illusion. Death, fake to the real world, yet real to them. Here zombies ruled, and the screaming was the music instead of Japanese singing or opera.

The panting from running was also in the music, and the endless void of blood red was the set play. Here the only male teenager was not the smug ‘I’m all it’ male, here he was the coward and he didn’t even bother to save his girl, or sister from the illusions harm. Instead he toss the pretty blond at one of the many creatures in his way. The words tore from his lips: “Here take her just don’t hurt me!” Even though this was an illusion, Amarantha decided to hurt him the most.

But first she decided to play with the others, minus the girl. Strangely enough the Kamyuja felt sorry for her. But that didn’t mean she released her mind from the Genjutsu. The old man was brave. He protected the old woman even though they were strangers. He thought off the creatures, even though he was terrified himself.

But through the illusion, he was no matched for her creatures and fractured his mind from the Genjutsu. He fell, dead in the illusion, trapped in the real world simply sleeping, dreaming this as a nightmare, Amarantha had already released him from the Genjutsu. So now he simply slept until someone woke him, or until he woke up himself. The old woman joined him shortly after. She fell to the same fate at the male, yet a panic attack made it less likely the creature could do real harm. Old age and bravery saved both of them.

The teenage girl was a lost cause. Someone from the real world will have to release her from the illusion. But at least she wasn’t suffering, she was merely running for her life in the blood world. The teenage male was another matter. And the coward simply knelt down with his arms wrapped around himself crying. And as Amarantha imagined all the cruellest things she could do to him, she realized that the boy was a ninja. Pitiful, she allowed him to be tormented in the bloodily hell until someone released him from the jutsu by the technique: GenJutsu Kai.
