the history
Admittedly, too much of a weight on the shoulders of a single child. A child that never knew the warmth of a motherly hug nor the strength of the father's law and word. A child cursed to carry the weight of the world on its frail shoulders since the dawn of its existence. Born to be disposed of, or so it has been told until it made it to the age of six. It never forgot that day. The day when its single and only mother took her out of the house for the first time. It was used to darkness, it lived in darkness. Its mother took it to an old shrine. The season was fall.
"What are we doing here mommy?" The young one asked out of curiosity as it witnessed how the beautiful pink petals of the cherry trees colored the ground.
"One day, you will be the one who protects this land little one." The mother of the child never called it for its name. It had no name. Called around the house like a puppy, a nameless puppy. That was the life of the child. It had been spoken to a lot and learned how to speak, but never learned its own name as nobody bothered to think of one for it.
"What do you mean mommy?" It asked and felt that its mother began holding its hand into a tighter grip. "Mommy?"
Four years later. That was how long it took the child to get to see the outside world again and so happened on its tenth birthday when its mother dressed it into special clothes - clothes it never wore before. A special purple dress with light-pink flowers. A beautiful dress - a girly dress like the dresses its mother wore and not like the ragged clothes it used to wear.
"Where are we going mommy?" The child asked its mother.
"Today, we are going to the shrine, my beautiful little princess." The mother replied as she kissed her child's forehead and they stepped out of the building. There were a lot of people outside, enough to scare the child away, but its mother encouraged it. These people followed the two all the way to the shrine. Before the child knew it though, it had been walking all alone as its mother was not by its side. She was in the crowd, smiling at it, encouraging it to go on.
And then it stopped before a deep pit as confusion took its soul.
"GISEI REI! GISEI REI! GISEI REI! GISEI REI! GISEI REI!" The crowd chanted and everything turned black for the child after it felt a single force pushing it down the pit. Before it fell, it saw a single person's face - its mother's face who was perhaps experiencing the most joyful moment of her life.
It knew not how it survived, but when it awakened, it was at a place unknown to it. A place of many rains as what awakened her was nothing else but a raindrop. And there she was in the outskirts of the village of rain... Homeless, hopeless, but no more nameless as the last thing it remembered was its name given to it by that crowd and her own mother - Gisei Rei.
the personality
Memories to be never unfold, emotions unexpressed. Gisei Rei is the incarnation of misery and pain. A mother who pushed her to her grave once and a father who was one of them, Gisei has acknowledged that she has always been alone. She knew what life was about. She knew that to survive, she had to adapt or that she would perish. Her mind was set to survive and whoever tried to get in her way while she was on her quest to see another day was an enemy. And that's how she lived like for many years. She learned to be a thief, she learned to be first when an opportunity to feed presented itself before her.
She met good, she met evil. She learned what kindness was and experienced hate. Kindness, she felt for the first time when she was given shelter. A nice man saw her on the street and took her home to feed her and to shelter her from the eternal rain of Amegakure. Or so she thought as that seemingly nice man was taking her to his home. He fed her, he gave her clothes, he let her shower. She was grateful & she learned what gratitude was, but then, she learned what fear was for he first time as the man pulled her to the side and ripped her old clothes, exposing her petite upper body.
"You wont be needing these rags, will you?" The man asked her and she knew what was coming. She recognized his expression, she has seen that expression on the faces on all of these people that walked her to that pit. Their faces basically said the same "We are doing it for the greater good!"
Gisei Rei knew what it felt like to be helpless and she knew that she was helpless yet again. The man violated her. She could do nothing. She had learned under multiple occasions that it was better to hold your head down and accept what is coming your way than to raise your head and get it chopped off. The man was done with her fast and threw her back to the streets of Amegakure. He knew she was not going to tell a person about what happened, but even if she did, who would believe her? She was a homeless brat seeking attention and he was someone compared to her. That was when Gisei Rei learned what disgust felt like... And that was when she learned what distrust was all about.
For a whole year would she not allow another soul close to her, be it human or animal. She learned how to manage on her own. She knew she had to.
Approaching an animal repeatedly hurt by humans was no easy task and the case with Gisei Rei was the same. Nice people came and left... But she had forgotten what it was like to trust. Not long after, she saw a familiar face. The same man who offered her kindness once before he violated her not even developed body. She ran, she screamed. She knew she had to be helped as she was helpless, but who would help her?
The man fell. His head fell after that. The shinobi of Amegakure were there and it was then when Gisei Rei learned how to admire. She did not admire the people though, no. She did not admire the headbands, no. She admired the blade that cleaved the man's head down as she swore to herself that she would find her way to power.
It was soon after than when Gisei Rei began learning how to study among others as she was a member of the Amegakure Academy.
the appearance
And there she stands, no short than five feet tall with her body just as frail as that day. Ninety-one pounds that have carried the world on their shoulder and were now on top. She was a genius, that was no lie. She topped her classes and became one of the fastest to graduate. Because she wanted that strength, despites the fact that that ideal of hers - the sword was long gone. She was never seen with a weapon whatsoever. Her body was too weak to carry a weapon and fight.
Her arms were tender and pale as they never met a ray of sunlight - not under the eternal clouds of Amegakure - not under the places she used to shelter herself. Not even after she was given home would she start going out more. No, she stayed home. A shelter for her was a shelter and she did not want to leave it if she didn't have to. She tried to train, she tried to help her body develop and she tried lots of methods but her body remained like it was - weak. Breakable.
Kind people gave her clothes and money to buy something in her taste. Even though they were kind, she still didn't trust them, but she took the money as that couldn't hurt. Gisei Rei is most often seen dressed in black as that is the color of her hair and soul. A red ribbon somewhere in her hair, tying it would underline her demonic red eyes - eyes she could never explain. Eyes, she never noticed that were different than the eyes of others.
Too much physical labor was perhaps too much for the body of a thirteen years old girl but she had to undergo it as she had to somehow make money. She became quite found to the suit of a maid and added symbols of that as well, into her clothing. Her profession was civil and harmless. She learned how to wear different sorts of clothes, different sorts of shoes. She learned how to do her own hair and knew how to make herself look pretty. Her skin was too young for make-up. She never applied some and swore to herself that she never would. Her skin was still young & she wanted it to remain eternally beautiful.
Many costumes have went through her hands and she has had her eyes on many designs. She had money, she bought, she bought and filled a wardrobe. Her body was never-changing. She would still be wearing these wears in years.
More clothes, more confidence, more elegance, more beauty. Beauty, covering a hollowed soul.
