Tracking
Rank: "D"
Skill: Skill
Effect: Characters use this skill to follow the trail of animals and other persons.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Can be learned by an Animal. Tracking means the user found a trail if they gain the check, while failure means they did not. If user fails this initial skill check, they simply cannot find that particular trail. After finding a trail, further checks may be necessary depending on the situation. Darkness, falling rain/snow, a dust storm, moving from one terrain to another (such as from sand to rock), one trail splitting into 2 or crossing water are examples why a user might need another Tracking check. Look in Task Skills thread found in the Skills and Traits Index for more information. Each time learned user gets 5 die roll to increase the skill.

He continued on that same path, until he found a few more footprints from them at split off in two different directions. He assumed that meant that they had been hunting something here and that they probably reformed in another place to eat their kill. He chose one of the paths and he followed it, sure that any one of them would all lead back to the same location. He was hoping that he would find some remains of their kill so that he would be sure to know where they had converged at. It would make it a little easier to pinpoint that location and then use that location to find their path after they had eaten. He wasn’t expecting much to be left though, so he was sure it would be tricky to spot the remains if there were any left.
He continued to move along the path he had selected moving very carefully, looking for the remnants of the meal. At least he knew exactly what he was looking for that time, if it was not already gone. If it was gone he would be out of luck and would need to look for another sign of their convergence and departure from the area. For all he knew, they could have been out here hunting and now were heading back in the opposite direction to go home to wherever it was that they stayed. It was however probably more likely that they would continue on hunting and seeking new shelter, at least that’s what Oron was hoping for. If he couldn’t find any sign, he would just have to follow the original path once more and hope that he was able to stay on the trail that way.
He finally stumbled upon a little bit of blood and a few stray pieces of some kind of animal that Oron could no longer identify. He saw the wolves’ prints around the area and knew that he had found his connection to their new path. He looked around the area examining all of the prints, trying to find where they had converged and where they had left. It was kind of hard to distinguish where they were coming and going with all of the footprints all around the area, but he was able to find some that specifically went off in a slightly different direction than the original path. They were still heading in basically the same direction again. He moved along that path some broken sticks that also indicated that he was on the right path. This gave him more hope that he would not lose the wolves and would find them.
He continued along that same path, seeing a few small broken limbs and partial foot prints as he went along. It must have rained in this area shortly before they had moved through it. There were usually not this many prints, but he was not complaining in the least. All the signs that he got were all reassurances to him that he was still on the same path. The abundance of signs just made it much easier to track them and stay on the right path. With these easy to read clear signs, he was able to also move more quickly and stay on their path at the same time, he still had some ground to make up. He had stopped and examined a few of them and had seen that he was defiantly getting closer as the tracks were getting more and more fresh as he moved.
He was getting closer and closer but he would not get over confident just yet. He still had not found them and if he made any mistakes he could miss something and lose them for good. He decided to slow down more as the signs again were not as clear as they had been for a while now. It would once again take a little more focus and observation to be able to keep their trail. He stopped in an area where had seen that their foot prints had lead into, but he was not sure in which direction they had moved in. He examined the whole area and he could not find a single sign of them moving in either direction. The best option logically would be to follow the same path as before, but he felt for some reason that they would have changed directions in this area. He didn’t know why, but he wasn’t going to move on until he figured out for sure where they went.
