Sunagakure Gates
The Divide
The entrance to the village is a great darkness that calls to all those weary of their travels through the desert. The shade and cool air that fills the divide offers great relief to any travellers that need to take rest beneath the massive divide that leads to the village. This is of course, if they are not warded off by the heads upon great pikes outside of the stone wall. The divide is the only weak point in the Meseta, and it was carved by the sand nomads years ago, to create the only entrance to the refuge in the desert that they called home. Stretching nearly half a kilometer long, the divide leads from the desert surrounding the village and allows safe passage into the village itself. In the darkness though, many dangers lurk unseen. These dangers are not relevant to Sunagakure ninjas who identify themselves as such, but to those who mean harm, or those who wander aimlessly into the divide, the divide is a darkness that will envelope them and swallow them whole. There are no lights that will guide the way, as the path is carved straight, and as long as a hand is kept against the wall, light will eventually beckon them to the other side. Within the divide, there are a few ANBU posts that watch over the path from carved niches in the wall, and each of the ANBU possess equipment that allow them to see through the darkness, if they were not hired for their innate abilities that allow them to do so.
The Gate Captain is a rough Shitakuma male who goes by the title 'Stagger' and will not reveal his real name to any newbies that come along. Stagger is an old man who has lived and loved the village for over half a century, and he will be damned if he allows any of those who don't belong in his village to pass through the divide. Under his watch, Sunagakure shinobi pass through the darkness safely, but those who are not recognized and cannot provide evidence of their belonging in the village; they will find themselves swept up in the darkness and meet face to face with Stagger. Those that cannot confirm that they belong in the village will find themselves taken tback hrough the divide and to the ANBU facilities in the desert and placed under lock and key until their identities can be confirmed. In the darkness of the divide, anything can happen, and if there are rogue creatures resting in the shade, trying to get some rest in the cool, then the people traversing through the gates can deal with it, as the Kazekage wants no one to represent her village that can be killed by mere animals hiding in the dark. ANBU will only help out to clean up the bodies, disposing of them in the desert.
Once the light of the village breaks through the darkness of the divide, another guard post awaits, this time normal ANBU members reside here, and will not likely threaten lives unless provoked. At this guard post, names and residency is noted, so that if the visitor is not from the village, there is a record explaining where the visitor is from, and if there has been anything declared that needs to be checked when leaving the village. If necessary, bags and equipment will be searched to ensure that there are no illegal items being brought into the village. If there are items that are confiscated, they will be taken with no monetary reparations. If an item is declared safe and is going to be returned to the visitor, a member of the village will return it, otherwise it can be considered destroyed or repurposed for the villages own use if it is useful. Once the second checkpoint is cleared, the visitor is capable of moving about the village, under watchful surveillance of course. Any returning shinobi are required to check in, and to declare what items they are brining into the village, if they are found to be omitting truths, then they can be detained until reason permits their freedom.
Beware those that oppose the great nation of Sunagakure, or end up like those who tried.
