I found some nuts, and I quickly climbed the tree, picking as many as I could. It was a refreshing task, requiring some excursion but not so much that it is unpleasant. Before long, I had picked the tree all but dry. I was happy with that, but I quickly heard the nearly imperceivable howl of Umbra, and the whinny of my stead off in the distance. It seems the goddess I've been dreaming of had blessings abound in mind for me today. I would quickly dart off to the nearby trees which my beasts had found, and harvest the nuts there. I now had four trees worth of nuts in a rather-bloated sack. I darted back by my camp to drop off that bag of them in my tent before continuing my search. I would wander along the low brackens of part of the forest to head to another area which I suspected might hold Spanish Nuts.

Umbra ran along, enjoying the pace of the day. Her nose was sharp and useful. She prowled along in the underbrush. She quickly caught the smell of an animal, but knew better than to chase it. She was on a mission at the moment, and she was not about to let all the activity going on around her prevent her from finding the nuts which I was looking for.

My mount trotted along steadily, happy after I gave to him a bunch of clover to reward his earlier success. His long strides helped him cover ground quickly as went, but his nostrils flared frequently, ever-watching for the scent of those nuts which meant goodness and praise to him. He came to a rather large tree that was full of strange scents, and began sniffing at it, just to double check...

I found more nuts, and my two companions had similar luck, so now we had a large enough stash to do just about anything. But, just then I saw more mist, not all that different from the morning I asked for the Goddess' sign, so I assumed it was a directive for me. I grabbed all the nuts I could find, and then followed that misty signal, watching for more Spanish Nuts or horse, whatever the Goddess saw fit to send me.

Umbra was crawling through the forest. She still was picking up that scent, among other things. No doubt she would come up with some more Spanish Nuts before too long. It was just a matter of prowling along, following the scent a critter had left as it carried its food to some hiding place. Umbra hoped she was following in the right direction, but at least she was giving it a try.

Santika galavanted across the forest, unsure of how he had so much luck so far. His steps were fast, but he was obviously doing everything he could to sniff out the correct trees. He bit leaves off some, checking more carefully, and even thought to sniff around at the forest floor around one of the slightly more promising trees, trying to find the right one.

It was time to take up work at the forge again, a thing I have not done since my youth. I always loved to help the blacksmiths, as they made the arrows and and daggers and other things which we needed for hunts and wars and day to day life. I still remember quite well my ancestors' art of weapon crafting. Even if women were rarely allowed to work the greatest swords of mithral, I would still be able to, and I would forge the greatest sword, as it was the only way I could testify to the reality of my Goddess. Of course, I knew better than to immediately begin forging a sword of great quality, so I set out to work on a knife of great quality, one that would serve me well.

I had bought enough metal for it, mitral being a very important substance for me, and it hadn't cost me much. 250 Ryo were missing from my purse for these materials, a pitance really, compared to the masterwork quality knife which I would forge. It was dark, but I sat at the forge, which I had spent the morning tuning into a precision instrument, the kind which would lend itself to the creation of masterwork. I had a bar of the Deep Metal before me, and I sat under a tarp, with nothing for lighting except the glow of the forge itself.

I said a prayer, knowing Divine Energy would help me to work the metal, making it willing and open to my blows. I am a spiritual woman when it comes to the art of making weapons out of metal I suppose, but I sat on my knees and prayed as the metal sat in the heat of the forge, absorbing heat and will of the Goddess alike, and overall becoming accepting to my blows as I approached the time for striking and forging of metal.

When I was happy that the metal was ready, I took it out and put it on the anvil, and began hammering furiously, feeling the heat of the piece on my face, but also the heat of my own body against the cold of the winter night. I was wearing nothing but a thin cloth to cover myself, but the forge and the heat of my work and my body kept me from growing cold at all.

I withdrew the knife from the flames, resting its warm metal on my stomach, and knowing that I had created a weapon of excellent craftsmanship. I took the time to engrave into it a plantlike pattern, as if roots and petals and vines were laced throughout the metal. While still functional, the piece was intricate and looked like it was the quality it was. I named it Ent's Tooth, figuring a tree would have quite the bite if it had a dagger like this.

Certainly, I could manage a little bit more craftsmanship. While it was dark, I knew the Goddess was watching me. With her guidance, I placed more mithril in the fire, heating it up and preparing it for the feverous striking that would come. The trick, with the mithril, was to let it get very hot. It was a very fast metal to cool, and once it was solidified in the wrong shape, no amount of hammering would yield a workable piece again, it would require fire and magic to return it. One had to keep the fires at their hottest when magical metals are being worked.

I had to use my patience now, and not take out the metal too early, not be too hasty. So, I bent down on my knees, feeling the cold breeze blowing over me, but knowing the Goddess would shield me from the pain of the cold. While I was bit into, I thanked her for all the bounty, and dedicated my last piece to her, to show my appreciation to her blessing. I told her, with that in mind, that she should send down her power to help me to shape this metal into a formidable handaxe, which would protect me from all who dare defile her land.

While I was feeling the will of the Goddess course through my body, I knew it was time to remove the metal from the coals. I went over, grabbing the tongs which came with my forge, and held them with one hand, using them to withdraw the hot piece of mithril. I looked at it, examining the sheen, and knew it was hot enough for me to begin the process. I put it down on the anvil, and began preparing to strike the metal into the shape which I wanted it to be in.

I kept working, body sweating, from the heat of the forge and from the hard labor which I was going. The knife was beginning to take shape, but more hammering was needed. There was an old expression, not to strike when the metal is hot, but to make it hot by striking. Yet, the mithril was too cold, so I put it back into the fire. None could break cold mithril. So, I let it heat up, and laid back in the dirt, staring up at the stars, and wondering whether or not the the divine power was in me for this work. I could feel it helping, certainly. The power of nature, all around me, it willed the dagger to happen. While I worked the tools of man, my very forge was outdoors, in the midst of a forest, and I had no doubt that was winning the favor of the Goddess. She was looking at my work with some level of favor. For me, the spiritual aspect of making was just as important as the physical aspect. I withdrew the metal from the fire with a pair of tongs, preparing to begin striking again. The hand axe must take shape, and it must take shape with quality.

The hammering was working better and better. I had a clear handle and a clear blade. Many would split the two up, make on of one piece and another of another, because it is easier to craft them separately. But, this makes them weak. It gives a weak point, where the axe can cave. When I make the whole thing out of one unbroken piece of mithril, it cannot be broken nearly as easily, it does not leave room for error. But, it means I must hammer far longer. I focused on getting the hammer more convenient for my hand. At the moment it was a long and square piece. I hit it over and over again, banging out the corner. At first ,all I did was facet it, but, Goddess willing, I managed to make it rounder and rounder. I then struck the side of it some more, flattening that out, and making it a shape that I would enjoy in my hand, making it a pleasure to hold. I could smoothen it for real later.

Finally, happy with the rough shape, I took it from the anvil, and let it cool in the night time air. I was growing tired, but religious fervor kept me awake, I knew the Goddess was with me, for I heard two wolves howling, and they came together with the same pitch at the same time. Nature was especially harmonious tonight, so I had to act while it was at its greatest. The moon was large, potentially full. I took out my wire brush that I had not yet used. It was a good item to have. I moved it, over and over again, making the handle smooth to the touch. I held it in my hand, still warm from the heat of the flames. I almost made the handle too smooth, I noticed. It might slip from my grip too easily. There was a balance to be found, so I decided I would engrave into the handle, that would help better the traction. But, I knew not of what to engrave, so I pulled the warm-yet-dull axe into my bosom, and curled up for the moment in my tent, with the smell of the forge about me. I would sleep, but not for long. I was simply opening my mind to a holy dream.

The Goddess came to me in my sleep. I stood before her in a quiet clearing at the break of day. Although the sun rose to my back, she was obscured by brightness. She reached out towards me and I felt naked and small before her, and she wrested my only possesion, the small axe, from my hand. She held it, and told me that she would give me her aid in the crafting once more, and that when I awakend the axe would be hardened and finished by the magic of my body. But she told me also that perhaps it was time I shared the blessings of my steel. I awakened with a sweat, but I looked down at the blade. It was beauitful, and I now had what I needed to live in these woods. But the Goddess willed me to make more and share it too.

In the forests, I would move; each lunge was more successful than the last, for I had covered a great distance in a small time. The area around me grew darker as I moved inward. With my bright green eyes peeled for any sign of action, my body was subconsciously primed to kill. My compound bow was a decent kill weapon of choice: with boreworms I could rip holes into my opponents; with the explosive rounds, I could devastate them. This small, thirty pound weapon would be situated obliquely about my torso; it was a bit snug, given my latest cloak addition, but I remained rightly mobile. A three meter clearing would come before me, and with guided effort from my chakra, I pressed hard to jump the gap. 

The leap wouldn't be enough, and I for a moment lost my drive. I had to grab a hold to a thick vine to support my weight and keep from falling. I had lost my pocket knife to the river below me, yet my longsword remained attached to the leather of my belt. With strong muscles, I pulled myself up and over the ledge. I took a moment to regain my composure.. the air in the forest was humid, but I enjoyed the warmth. Rising from my knee, I noticed that I nearly lost my spool of metal wire. I tucked it away within the folds of my outer garment and hoped that it wouldn't be lost in my movement. My spirited bounds would resume, and I continued to cover lengths in minutes. What drove the Reptile? As I thought about it, the vision of a kill flashed through my mind. I smirked toothily and licked my lips. What was the last thing that I had eaten... a potpie?

It was night time, and the I was sleepign quietly in my tent. I was wrapped in a warm fur, despite the autunumal weather, but under the sleeping fur she I was wearing nothing. I stirred a little before slinking slowly back into my dreamlike state, where I dreamed that the godess would send me a message, telling me what to do next, and that if I did not obey her, her blessings would be forfeit. No longer could I hoard nature's power. Nearby, Umbra slept, and I was sure Santika was off somewhere, however, he was distant at the moment.

My encampent is not particularly well hidden, and I've done a fair amount of foraging. But, I haven't gone to any civilised place in like a year now. So we could call it an average check? Just spitballing here.

Sleep subdued the Reptile for a while, but I had arisen with the sun, robust and rejuvenated from my previous journey. Within my body, I felt my muscles coil underneath the green scales coating my flesh; I breathed through my nostrils and took in the moisture of the humid jungle. Steadily, I moved onward towards the encampment, having followed the track marks of z steed and its rider. My hand was upon my compound bow - I was quicker with it than the rugged blade, and a long to mid-range assault would work in my favor had the rider been awake or alerted by my presence.

As I had inhaled, chakra had worked in tandem with the olfactory, thus enabling my thermal senses to scry while I held my eyes closed. The heat that came from one source was massive. I immediately took it as the animal companion; the other, obviously the human.


And steadily I did stalk, slowly removing the thirty pound weapon from my torso.

I had risen and set about my daily tasks. I was weraing a warm fur for the still warming morning air. Today I was doing a little bit of work at the forge, mostly simple maintenance, attempting to deal with the slow decay of good equipment in the cold and damp air. Umbra was lounging in the dirt nearby, and Santika was once more nowhere to be found. The Goddess was good, and I found the work went quickly and easily. Perhaps she was trying to threaten me, show me what I stood to lose. I awaited her message still.

Faint, yet another heat signature had been registered by my thermal sonar. I had been in the thickets of this Cha jungle for some time, stalking my prey...


Soon Reptile would make his move.

In the heat of night, I still stalked my prey. Patience was a virtue of Reptile's, and I had no reason to rush the kill.

Savor the moment, my father had always taught me; every kill, every movement had to also be taken with silent stride, and so I crept through the rainforests as best I could--trying to not alert the two creatures within the scope of my thermal senses.

My hand stayed at my side for now, as I had already opted to use the rugged blade to render both man and beast asunder. My bow and its explosive arrows would only obliterate my quarry and that is not what I wanted. I had no interests in picking charred pieces of flesh from off the forest floor in this sweltering forest.
