Valerys looked at the fallen statue of an old king. People sometimes said, deep in the desert, that there were once tyrants over all of the world. She wondered if they were true. The sun had finally subsided, and Valerys found her red tanktop and shorts allowed enough of her skin to show so that she wasn't hot. The butt bag on her ass was holding 171 senbon, 5 spring razors, and 4 hira-shuriken. There was a glaive strapped to her back. The silver of the metal looked good against red eyes.

"How did you fall?" Valerys asked the monument, "What brought down the blade? Passion or prayer?"

There was nothing else in the area except a palm tree 100 yeards to the right. There were two dunes, both ten meters away to the north and south. They were small, about two meters. Valerys was on her way back from A Savior's Sacred Place. Her body was aching from the trip, but exhilarated with the plans that she was creating. She wanted so badly for the world to fall into alignment.

She took a seat on the statue's nose and looked into the sky. The sun touched her face in a moment she could only describe as transcendent. It made her wonder if there was something to this god-business.

THERE WAS THE SUBTLE HISSING of sand over sand; a while ago, civilization had begun to fade, to be replaced by vast spaces of ruddy-hued abstraction, of indefinite shape that changed with the breeze, which meant that nobody who did live out here could even really tell Lilith where the hell he should go!

It was scary, if truth be told. The endlessness of it. It occurred to Lilith that perhaps this was the end of the earth, like the Hell some people had told him about, and if he kept wandering this way, he would be swallowed by 'the desert'... but a small voice in the back of his head assured him this was not so, and that he should venture even just a little further, for...

Destiny awaits.

Today the boygirl stood at five feet tall; he had removed most of the insulation from his attire, such as his waistcoat, mittens and hat and was now trekking in mauve undershirt, black shorts and black shoes. Over his left arm he carried a travel bag, filled with rations, water skins, fifteen meters of silk rope, a book to read and other such essentials; in his right hand he carried an umbrella, being improvised rather intelligently as a source of shade. The small of his back was adorned with sheath and subsequent xiphos, sharpened crudely, but to relative effectiveness. Upon his left hip, his butt bag was worn, carrying within it a single baseplate compass, ten knives, twenty exploding tags and fifteen smoke pouches. Occasionally, he brushed at the overlong bangs on the right side of his face, for they felt hot and itchy against the skin of his cheek.

Lilith was beginning to pant. He knew he would have to drink again soon. A little bit further. There, in the distance, he could see a larger, more distinct shape, apart from the shifting abstraction of the desert. It was colorized similarly, though that might simply have been because the sand had lathered it; claimed it. Lilith thought he would rest there, wherever there was.

He approached from the south. The closer he got, the more he realized the giant shape looked human, though far bigger than any human Lilith had ever seen! Through whipping tendril of sand and hot breeze he found himself standing before it in the flat of the land. Panting heavily now, he dropped his bag upon the heated ground and bent double, exposing his top half to the cruelty of the sun, but he needed to just rest a moment...

When his lilac eyes again came up to look over the statue's once-beautiful face, disfigured by time, he realized that someone was sitting upon its left nostril...!

He began as a spot on the horizon. Not even a spot. He was a grain of sand among many. As the distance was crossed, however, Valerys recognized the shape. Years in the desert had taught her to notice bodies through sand, and she was thankful for that knowledge now. When the creature was close enough, about ten meters, they took off their bag. They looked into Valerys' red eyes. At first she thought it was a girl, but a closer examination made her second guess herself.

A buzzard flew overhead. Valerys wondered if it was stalking the child.

"Hello," Valerys said. She remained seated.

Manipulating them would be, well, child's play. The kid was pale, scrawny, and barely five feet. Usually she wouldn't even bother. A stab in the back and she'd be satisfied. But today she was sitting on the nose of a king, and it was making her feel a little frisky.

Valerys put one of her hands in her lap. "You seem a little lost. Can I help you?"

"Hello." 

It was a pretty voice, and despite the whispering of the world about, Lilith heard it clearly. He stared, mouth slightly agape, at this mysterious woman, alone in the vast expanses, sitting so callously atop a fallen legacy. Lilith knew not what to make of her, but Azaz'el was internally regarding her with hauteur and interest, figuratively resting her chin upon her fist as she gazed through Lilith's identically colored eyes out at the exchange. Here, she may need to pull some strings, to ensure her little puppet danced the way she wished.

"You seem a little lost," The sprite informed him, not moving from her perch. "Can I help you?"

After a silent, expressionless moment, Lilith stood, picking up his burden and twirling his umbrella upward till it again provided him cool, dark respite from the sun. Unbeknownst to Lilith, only his deep-seated Kedoin powers and constant image of himself had kept his skin pale, otherwise he would have been tanned brown by his days beneath the sun long ago. A small, confident smile appeared on his face. He took a few dainty steps forward, landing him a mere five meters from where the girl sat.

"I'm not lost," He told her, his grin growing. "Just..." He searched for a term that he had been assigned on his travels, that he could repeat to seem... fitting. "...sightseeing." That worked. Lilith did not take his eyes off the girl: they were wide, strangely wide, as though trying to absorb as much information about her as possible.

"Is this your home?" Lilith asked straightforwardly.

Valerys decided that the child was a boy after all. At the very least, the voice made it harder to tell. In a grandiose gesture, he whipped out his umbrella and stood up straight. Valerys would watch with a smile, although internally she was cringing. He claimed to be sightseeing.

The buzzard was beginning to fly away now. Valerys stood up. "I do live here. It's a good thing you found me. The desert is not the sort of place for any child. I'll take you with me if you'd like. What is your name?" If he would agree to go with her, then Valerys would begin walking to the west as they spoke. She didn’t know this area well, but she had just come from that direction. She knew that there were at least a few dunes just over the horizon that might conceal her.

If the boy did not agree, then at the very least Valerys knew that he wasn’t a complete idiot. Growing up in the Land of Wind, even that young, children know not to follow strangers deeper into the desert. Valerys would push the hair out of her face.

But then again, this child might be able to use a motherly figure.

APPARENTLY, THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN did indeed live among the remnants of this old, crusty, giant corpse. Or at least statue of a giant! Lilith could not decide which one it was. She asked that he follow her, an offer that Lilith was immediately intrigued by; he nodded eagerly. "What is your name?" She finished by asking.

"Azaz'el," Brusquely spoke the tyrant within, giving the puppet no time to form its own response. Lilith smiled. The girl slid off her perch and began to head off, hardly seeming to care if Lilith were following or not. She was not even looking at him! With the bag slung over his left shoulder, the androgyne began to tap into xer inner energies, taking a moment to set up barriers against this isolated woman whom he knew not. In his experience, people who were alone were often just as dangerous as those who stood in groups, and despite his breezy smiles and childish enthusiasm, Lilith was far from idiotic. He closed his eyes momentarily, concentrating...

His whole body shifted invisibly in temperament; externally, he was still uncomfortably warm, but within his body heat stabilized; his heart rate evened out to a monotonous thump-thump... thump-thump... In a word, he became virtually unreadable, even to more discerning measures than the scrutiny of the naked eye.
 
These processes having been completed in only a few short moments, Lilith unveiled his mauve oculi and hurried to catch up, his strides not quite as long as the taller woman's. "Hey!" He called out, to halt her. This done, he traded his umbrella between hands and raised his bare right hand in the sand-encrusted breeze, full of intention; 'twas invisibly imbued with an art form as timeless as the desert about (and certainly more so than the decrepit, fallen idol);  a precautionary measure against this unknown quantity. He wished to shake hands. His expression was amicable. He hoped she would comply...

"Where are we going?" He inquired curiously regardless, looking around at the planes of sand and seeing nothing more remarkable than the locale they were leaving behind. Benevolently, he reached up as high as he could to shield the girl from the sun's rays with his umbrella, as well.

The name stopped her. Azaz'el, she thought again. The words felt heavy in her mind, and they had been spoken differently than everything else the boy had said. Valerys walked on. The boy called out to her and ran forward. He outstretched his hand and gave her some shade. It would have been cute to virtually everybody else.

Valerys was annoyed by his kindness. She had to shake his hand, so as to not throw off the guise. She was playing it by ear, and didn't know what she wanted, but she knew that it inolved deception. "I'm Valerys," she said and shook hands. Valerys would not realize that she had given over her alignment.

As they continued to walk, Valerys would really start feeling playful. Underneath her tanktop, the skin around her stomach would begin to shift. Hours of training and battle had taught her to remain calm while manipulating her cells, and she did so now. A mouth, sweat dripping through the grooves in its fangs, would stretch over her stomach for 20 centimeters. The mouth smiled.

Valerys smiled. "Tell me something about you. Who are you, Azaz'el?"

SHE SHOOK HIS HAND. 

Immediately within Lilith's mind, an image formed, gripping his attention, sobering his countenance. Usually at the focal of such impressions there was a distinct shape - an image of the person - but here, again, rather like it had been with Schatzi (a pang of sadness went through Lilith), the centerpiece was shapeless, though all red and purple, with shades of said color rippling over the scene that were like cloths made from water, hitting the indistinct shape of Valerys' body, darkening about the edges, serving only to emphasize the transient silhouette...

Dark. Bold. Unbreakable. And isolated, looking only upon the infinite image of herself...

This was not the average, benevolent creature. Lilith knew it immediately. His smile returned, now a precaution. Azaz'el's invisible head tilted towards the external woman, wondering at her. She knew her disposition towards the world, now - her and Lilith both - but what of her disposition towards him? Her specific intentions remained a mystery, but, without commune, the individual halves raised their guard.

She did not answer his other question, choosing to withhold their destination. Airily, Lilith continued to search for any item of significance about the shifting plains. There was nothing, till he looked back towards his companion, and realized with a frown and then a gasp that a mouth was opening in her stomach beneath her top, drooling greedily.

The image abruptly smashed the two resident personalities together. For one heaving instant, Lilith could almost remember whom he had been before; could tell you from whence the arrogance with which he traversed the world originated. Azaz'el clutched at her child sweetly, never resenting him, for he was innocent, and endearing besides; but she took this opportunity to whisper one word in his ear more clearly than Lilith had ever heard before.

Kedoin.

And with that, she bit into him fully; Lilith groaned and clutched at his face with both hands, dropping the umbrella to the sand where it wheeled away down the dune. He could feel the cellular structure ripple and shift in his face, though he could hardly have recalled the comparatively subtle sensation later on, for at present, mentally, it felt as though he were drowning in his own convoluted consciousness...

When the feeling subsided, his hand came away. His features had sharpened; they were more feminine than before (the black panda patch had disappeared), as though he had become his own twin sister, though the rest of his body retained its semi-masculine, flat-chested image, despite the fact that the androgyne had unconsciously raised a few inches in height. He was no longer surprised, and he no longer looked it. He was no longer a he. She stared forth at Valerys with eyes that were abruptly full of acute consciousness and scorn. Azaz'el was panting slightly. She had not had so much control in what felt like eons...

"I will first tell you something about yourself, Valerys Kedoin," She hissed. "You are young, no doubt. A mere foundling. If you were older, you would recognize my name. It is a disgrace to me that you do not."

Of course, Azaz'el had no idea how - in the wake of her butchered revolution - her legacy had been abused, but she trusted at least that the inner circles - the elders - would remember her. They might still despise her, at that. Regaining a reputation so expertly smothered would prove a difficult task, but she had always known that...

But that was not stopping her from taking steps t'wards it. Even if she had to work around the obstacle of this momentarily pathetic little shell.

Valerys had been wondering how Lilith would fit into her chronology, how best he could be used, even abused; but now Azaz'el was regarding Valerys in an equal and opposite fashion.

There was confusion. An umbrella dropped to the ground. Azaz'el touching his face. Valerys feigning fear, actually making preparations, and backing up a meter from the boy. When he looked up, Azaz'el was no longer a boy. Then, she spoke.

Valerys knew then what the boy was. It was a Kedoin, just like herself. The boy, now girl, was not a male or female at all. There was no way of knowing how old they were either, but it sounded as if Azaz'el had been around long enough. She certainly was confident.

"Disgrace, huh? I suppose that's fair. I've never been one for honor."

Valerys was wondering now. Azaz'el was clearly not innocent or young. She could even be more powerful than me, Valerys decided. In that case, the decision had been made. She needed to assess her opponent's power, or disrupt the threat. Valerys decided on a tactic that would let her do both.

She would unsheathe her glaive and hold it in front of herself in the Sky: Ready Stance. The polearm felt good in her hands, as if her arms had been extended. "I think it's best we keep our distance," she'd say. "Clearly, you can't be trusted." The mouth on her stomach would begin to chew the air.

IMMEDIATELY, VALERYS WAS ON the defensive. "Disgrace, huh? I suppose that's fair. I've never been one for honor," She retorted, drawing the weapon off her back and pointing it at Azaz'el, who stepped back cautiously, mistrust in her lilac eyes, though it did not seem as though Valerys had any immediate intention to strike. Azaz'el knew that Lilith's fragile body was ill-suited to physical combat; at this range, Valerys had the advantage, but she needn't know that.

"I think it's best we keep our distance," Valerys went on to say. It sounded suspiciously like an order. Azaz'el cursed her current stature. In the past, her customary form had been eight feet tall, a monolith of strength and beauty, but she knew she had not the power to multiply her cells to that extent. Even after so long! The younger woman's 'Maw' groped at the air with its large, unintelligent 'jaw', almost as though independently sentient. "Clearly, you can't be trusted."

Azaz'el did not look affronted whatsoever, though her stance was lowered, her arms raised in a wide, arbitrary defensive position. She spoke as such. "If it please you, I could return my consciousness over to the inauspicious little boy," She suggested flatly. It was difficult to tell if she was being sincere or not. Though even now, maintaining her current presence of mind was a constant struggle. Lilith's scatterbrained thought trails were tracking lazily through her mind, obfuscating Azaz'el's own, making it difficult to concentrate. Her eyes narrowed with the labor of it, though she thought perhaps she could linger a good while longer before the relatively innocuous creature within wandered back into the driver's seat.

"That was a joke," She clarified, not sure Valerys would appreciate or even recognize her humor. "And you are speaking nonsense. Why now, that I show a little bit of intellect, should you suddenly be having misgivings, dear child?" Azaz'el referred to her companion as such, despite the fact that she stood a full ten inches shorter. "Lead on, to wherever it was you planned to lead little Lilith - the boy," She again clarified, smirking slightly. "He was eager to see where you wished to take him. For that matter, so am I."

If it was to his death or some similarly inconvenient predicament, then there would be a problem. Azaz'el was fond of Lilith, especially considering they shared the same body.

She couldn't help but laugh. Azaz'el wanted to go to the same place as the boy, and she was inclined to let her. Valerys made a mental note that the two were separate consciousness. In a moment of combat, that would prove useful.

"Actually," Valerys confessed, "I was bringing him out here to die." Her smile was wide and looked similar to the maw on her stomach. "I'm sure you understand. Sometimes I just get a little uncontrollable."

The glaive stood between them. Looking beind, Valerys saw the statue in the sand. The dead king kept reminding her of A Savior's Sacred Place. The Flower on Earth was their monarch, but there wasn't any reason that she couldn't be a tyrant. Or he.

Valerys needed to know more. The woman wasn't making an advances to attack, meaning that she was either not that powerful or not interested in attacking. The former was preferable, but the later more probable. She asked the only question she knew to ask.

"Go on, Azaz'el. I asked you to tell me something about yourself."

VALERYS LAUGHED, AND AZAZ'EL grimaced, suddenly knowing what the woman was going to say before she said it. "Actually, I was bringing him out here to die," She confessed, grinning from her twin mouths. Azaz'el was, unfortunately, not amused; she scowled. It had been a lucky thing, that she had possessed Lilith in the moment that she had. "I'm sure you understand. Sometimes I just get a little uncontrollable."

"I understand," She admitted begrudgingly, remembering how even the innocent little Lilith had consented to murder so easily. The man known as 'Lucius' had sundered to their powers combined without hassle; Lilith had been entertained momentarily, but the memory of the blood leaking from the taller man's gut - trailing over the cold snow as it had - was far sweeter for Azaz'el. She knew she was growing more powerful with every day.

Soon, she would have no further need of the thing that had been christened 'Lilith' in its adventures. Still, she had been sated by the event, at least for now. She had not been covertly mirroring Valerys' intentions whatsoever. "That does not mean I approve. I knew you were unstable from the moment I touched you, but not quite that unstable. One should be more discerning when picking their targets. Wouldn't you agree, sister?"

The whole speech was laden with implication. Schatzi Kedoin, before Valerys, had been similarly intriguing - and similarly a fellow shapeshifter - but Azaz'el had not, at that time, had sufficient grasp upon Lilith's fractured mind to take proper advantage of the situation. In truth, Valerys reminded Azaz'el of... somebody from her past. The woman gritted her teeth, recognizing the mental obstruction as being a manifest of the Lilith era. She knew the name, if only she could reach out just a little further to it...

Cain. The cheerful grin; the maws; the insatiable, manipulative nature. Azaz'el had thought Cain to be her best friend, till the woman put a metaphorical knife in her back. Still, upon reflection, Azaz'el could hardly blame the woman for her actions. Azaz'el's chances of success had been scarce to begin with; had Cain followed her in her quest for power and glory, she would have likely perished. She had stood to gain more from her betrayal.

I am thankful that I can remember that, at least.

Valerys did indeed remind her - at least vaguely - of her former companion, which would reasonably have meant that Azaz'el should have wanted to eliminate the girl, but nostalgia was a powerful persuasion. Besides, with Lilith's body as a vehicle, she was not sure she could succeed in bringing down the taller Kedoin. At present, Valerys was speaking, still holding Azaz'el at glaive-point. "Go on, Azaz'el. I asked you to tell me something about yourself."

Azaz'el frowned through her lilac eyes as she considered. What she said next could weigh heavily upon her fate. She decided to take the more honest route; to take the risk.

"Very well," She began, her breathing still slightly labored. She dared not lower her guard. "Before I was disgraced, tortured and cast out what must have been... at least half a hundred years ago, now, my name held with it gravity inside the circles of our kind. If the name means anything to you, I am a distant relative to Thane'quass...

"I was powerful; an eminent ruler of an elite sect of our kind, but I was never satisfied with my position. I accrued my own private army of mutineers, ready to rise up and seek power, but I was impatient; I struck too early. I was defeated by those that chose to defend the powers that be, and, choosing not to destroy my body, they exiled me... permanently."

Azaz'el had to be careful not to betray her current fatigue too explicitly. If Valerys was as much like Cain as the exile suspected, despite the grandiose tale, she may simply strike her down if she thought that she could. "I have been wandering ever since, accompanied by this... thing they sculpted as a replacement for my true self. I believe their intention was to erase me - and my memory - entirely, but, needless to say, they failed. I grow more powerful - recall a little more - every day."

Such a deep exploration of the past had momentarily solidified Azaz'el's position in Lilith's body. A proud being with all said and done, Azaz'el raised up to the fullest height that her current body could produce. She was no longer showing any fear. "What say you to that, sister?"

Azaz'el had been powerful, but now she was trapped within the body of the boy. This was good to know, but even better than that was Azaz'el desire for power. Going so far as to build a small army, Azaz'el was no foreigner to deceit and political warfare. "What say you to that, sister?" Azaz'el said.

"What can I say," Valerys said as she lowered her glaive to her side, "except that I misjudged you. Allow me to introduce myself properly. Valerys Kedoin. And you are exactly who I've been looking for."

Information was powerful. Valerys was hesitant to share her plans with Azaz'el, but eventually she would have to involve somebody anyways. Most people were not evil, and they did not act with their own self-interest. With a person as rare as that, Valerys wanted to take advantage.

"You want power? Well then, I've got just the thing. There is a small village near here. They are ruled by a god-fearing monarch who, I suspect, could be overthrown. I'm a Sand ninja actually and there is nothing I can do about that, but you-"

Valerys held out her hands. "You might be in a different situation. I'd be willing to help, Azaz'el. We could take it together. All I ask is one thing. When you're on top, remember the woman who helped you get back there. And, when I need you again, give me your voice."

For the first time since meeting Azaz'el, Valerys was being sincere. This could be a mutual relationship, if Azaz'el would allow it, and they might be able to become allies after a time. And, if not, Valerys would at least know the truth about Azaz'el Kedoin and how she came to power...

Azaz'el had trusted Cain - had had more reason to trust Cain - and she had been betrayed nonetheless, resulting in a defeat more ultimate than most people chanced to know in their entire lives. She was hesitant to believe that Valerys was being honest with her; she had gone from attempted murder to companionable conspiracy in seconds flat. What kind of creature was this?

"If you are speaking sincerely, I have no reason to deny you. I would not at all mind attempting to usurp a monarch - for the purposes of nostalgia, if nothing else. But how can I trust you?" Azaz'el asked. Her pale white hand gestured around at the lonely dune they stood upon. "You lead me out here to kill me, woman. Now you wish to conspire with me? What conclusion should I draw, except that your plan to kill me has become more elaborate?"

Forcibly composed, Azaz'el could feel Lilith pawing at the back of her consciousness. She knew she didn't have much time left.

Valerys understood why Azaz'el mistrusted her. In the world of manipulation, however, there was always reason to mistrust someone. Valerys didn't mind being considered evil. She was after all, and that was a possibility that one day Azaz'el might prove more trouble than she was worth.

"How about this," Valerys said, "I have no reason to trust you either. I'm telling you this plan, at the risk of losing the opportunity, because it benefits both of us. Friends in high places and all that jazz." Valerys thought for a second. "Let's say this: You were once a legacy, Azaz'el. A legend is rarely born, but every generation has at least one. You are one among hundreds in the span of time. And, you are standing among one of your own now."

She let that hang in the air and chewed at the air with the maw. Valerys knew she could convince Azaz'el. The woman had once wavered in the aroma of power, and once is always enough.

"Let's get a whole chapter in the fucking history books."

Effect: The user can grow mouths on the body for offensive purposes. Know as a "Maw".

Drawback: The teeth of a maw can be broken with enough force, rendering the maw useless for the remainder of the fight. The maws the user can create is capped at 12. Maw cannot be used for techniques other than the ones found within the blood line.
Description: The main offensive skill for the Kedōin Blood line. With training the user can grow a multitude of mouths on the body, used for biting. These mouths will bite flesh viciously with teeth, and are at the complete control of the user. The maws grown may or may not have tongues and may appear to the user's desire. If a maw has bitten into something, they may command the maw to spit the matter out, or consume the matter over the course of 2 posts (the maw chew the matter, and user consumes it). A full mouth cannot perform any functions and inorganic matter cannot be consumed. When first learned, the user can grow 2 additional mouths within 1 post, to be placed anywhere on the body. Removing a maw takes 1 post. "Maws" may measure up to 10cm in length. The user may relearn this technique to obtain another 2 maws. Teeth cannot be larger than 1/8 the width of the mouth. A maw is strong enough to tear flesh, but cannot tear through wood.

Description: Picture With additional training, the maw grown from the "Legion of Maw" technique can be enhanced for deadliness. When learned, a maw grown can bear a set of razor sharp fangs instead teeth. The fangs tear into flesh far better than teeth, and can harm a foe by removing chunks of flesh away. Fanged maws also grip better than regular teeth, offering slightly more utility. These fangs can also chew into material stronger than wood, but nothing harder than stone. Fangs remain the same dimensions/amounts as ordinary maws, derived from the "Legion of Maw" techniques.

Description: Picture The user can command the size of maw's to increase in size. With training, the cells of the body can manipulated in such a manner as to produce a larger maw; proportionally increasing the deadliness of every bite. The user can prep their bodies to provide a huge singular bite, tearing huge chunks of flesh in one swift move. When first learned, a maw can be grown to 30cm in length. When learned a second time around, a maw can be grown 60cm in length. When learned a final time, a maw can be grown to 120cm in size.

VALERYS WAS VEHEMENT IN her attempts to convince Azaz'el, which gave her some small measure of credibility. Azaz'el's mouth twisted at the corners. In the past, this expression had instilled apprehension and fear as the matriarch came to her severe decisions, but now it looked far more like childishness; petulance. 

"Let's get a whole chapter in the fucking history books," Urged the younger Kedoin. More than Valerys' individual words, Azaz'el was tussling with a single thought inside her own head:

What better opportunity will I have?

In the end, she figured she had taken the chance of revealing to Valerys the true nature of her person; why not follow even further? The temptation was too great. What if I am being betrayed, or lead into defeat was a worthy consideration, but there was also the matter of what if we succeed. 

"Very well, Valerys. I will comply with your plan, as you ask. But before I do, know two things: firstly, I cannot maintain my own consciousness for very long. I am afraid I must hand my mind back over to the littler creature momentarily. I have claws in him, and can point him in the right direction, but he is an independent creature, often too whimsical to properly reign. Do not underestimate him, however: what he lacks in prior knowledge and focus, he makes up for with my intelligence, despite how he appears. You will have to bear with him, for the time being.

"Secondly, the instant I - or he - suspects foul play of some kind, we will be more than happy to turn on you. More than happy." Having said her peace, Azaz'el smiled in a faraway manner, resemblant of her alter ego. "I would shake your hand, to solidify the contract, but I have already done so as many times as I need to. By the way, be wary of that gesture. To the more ancient of us, it can be used to siphon information about your very spirit. And what a twisted spirit you have, miss Valerys..."

With that, her grin grew, and clouded over entirely; the girl's features dulled once again, and the black spot around his right eye slowly faded into existence, like a rapidly pressurizing bruise, though it was of course painless, a memory made impression upon the Kedoin's skin. The innocuous, wide-eyed expression of Lilith had returned, though he had not shrunk; he still stood at five feet and three inches. Hat-and-mittenless, he smiled benevolently at Valerys, before frowning and holding a pallid, fragile hand up to shield his eyes from the sun.

This made him realize that he had dropped his umbrella! "Oh!" With a start, he waved his head around madly, searching for it, before his eyes came upon it, resting as it was further down the slope. He twisted, stumbled and half-slid down the dune of hot sand, reaching down to pick it back up and shade himself from the vicious heat!

This done, he turned back to Valerys, his expression emptying immediately. "Um, miss..." He frowned, as though trying to recall something important. "Where do we start?"

If knowledge was power, then Valerys felt very powerful indeed. Azaz'el had been forced into telling her some information. There was a time limit to her presence. That was, well, annoying to say the least. The boy was not Valerys' ideal vessel for power. Although, in this instance the boy made perfect sense.

"Listen," Valerys told him, "We are starting at the beginning. There are some things you need to do. The name of the village is A Savior's Sacred Place. It is just west of here. I was there just a couple days ago, so you can walk the distance. There will be a gate. Enter the village and claim to be the Flower on Earth. Your innocence will, hopefully, persuade them.

"Once inside, you will need to spread a message. As a pious nation they are not very useful to you. They will not act evil, and therefore they are no use to me either. We are going to start a civil war. Spread the word of a religion called Valyria's Truth. As the Flower on Earth, they will follow and obey you.

There may be those higher up who do not approve. They will start the civil war. You must meet me and my team at the gates. Help us infiltrate and then your position will be secure."

Valerys stared at the boy. There is no way he understood that.

"Do you understand?"

VALERYS IMPLORED LILITH TO Lilith to listen, and he did so dutifully, as he climbed back up the sand dune, to again stand and shield both him and Valerys from the sun. His other hand moved to cover his mouth in a pose that he had found helped him centralize the focal point of his mind, and he felt that what Valerys was saying was somehow crucial.

He absorbed the words without expression. "Do you understand?" Valerys asked him, in conclusion. Slowly, Lilith nodded. "Yes, miss. West of here there is a village. I'm supposed to be the Flower on Earth for them," The title caused him to scrunch up his little mouth with happiness, though it was largely hidden by his hand. "And then I will make some people mad by telling them about Valyria's Truth, and then when everybody's angry, I let you into the village.

"But, I have a question!" And he seemed very proud of himself for having spoken up about it, too. "What is Valyria's Truth? What's it about? And why would they think I'm the Flower? I don't look anything like a flower. Oh, and where is your team? I don't see a team!"

At least he was obedient, and, to her surprise, he did understand. He actually started to ask questions. Valerys hated questions, and she hated children for asking them. Valerys could understand how come the child had been issued as a punishment.

"Valyria's Truth is a religion of my design, specifically for this purpose. When we rule the village, the religion will help control the people and enact our will. And they will think you are their leader because you know how to lead. And you are young. As for the team, they will be here."

Valerys could hardly believe her luck. She had briefly formed the plan while inside A Savior's Sacred Place, but it had began her before her eyes. The boy, hiding a smile, was going to be the future tyrant of a village. Maybe, if Valerys' plan worked out, a much wider area than that.

"Is there anything else you need to know?" Valerys crossed her arms over her chest. Her neck was beginning to sweat.

"Valyria's Truth is a religion of my design, specifically for this purpose," Valerys explained, and Lilith's mouth opened as he realized that it was named after her! Thereafter, he grinned. It was funny. 

Lilith absorbed the rest of the words like a doe-eyed sponge, and shook his head slowly when Valerys asked if there was anything else that she needed to explain. His gaze did, however, linger.

"There's one thing, Valyria - Valerys, miss," He said softly, lowering the umbrella so that it shaded only himself. He leaned in closer, as though imparting a secret. "...If you lie to me, we will kill you."

Having shared that little tidbit, he grinned as though he had just told a most amusing joke, twirled on the spot and marched promptly off in the direction indicated. 

I hope this direction is west!

It is, sweet child.
