Description: The user unstraps their katana from their side, holding it in the same position were it would hang, but free from the body. The main hand is placed upon the hilt of the katana, and the secondary hand halfway down the sheath. The legs are slightly bowed.
Limit: Must learn from a Protegera Tatsujin or higher.
Syriv walked out of his house early in the morning only to be met by a cheerful sun. Unlike most people, he didn’t mind the heat since it actually made him stronger thanks to his bloodlimit. But the real reason out her was that his sister had decided that she would teach him some sword techniques. He didn’t complain. After all, you could never be too strong. Walking towards the training area, he placed his gourd to the side. He wouldn’t need it and it would probably mess up his training. He could barely wait to train, since he had seen his sister use these techniques often.
“Before you can learn any offensive or defensive techniques, I first have to teach you the correct stance.”
As she spoke, his sister kept on walking until she finally reached the training section of their house. All around them were training dummies and fake weapons meant for training. He knew from watching that his sister used this placed frequently. He never did because he never saw the need.
“First things first, untie the Katana from your side”
Listening to his sister’s advice, he quickly went to untie his katana from his side. Before it could fall, Syriv held it with his right hand. He then looked toward his sister, wondering if he
did it correctly.
“Good, now watch me”
Taking her own sword in hand, Machi bent her knees slightly, showing him what his stance should look like. While she maintained the stance, she told him that his sword should be in the same position that it would usually hang from, except this time it was free from the body.
“Place your main hand, which is your right hand, on the hilt of the katana, and your left hand should be halfway down the sheath. While you’re doing this, keep your knees slightly bowed”
Going over her instructions in his head, Syriv bent his knees slightly. He moved his right hand until it was over the hilt of the sword. Grasping it firmly, he moved on towards his left hand. He watched closely as he moved his left hand further and further down. He finally stopped when it was halfway down the sheath. Making sure he did all of the positions correctly, he looked toward his sister for confirmation.
“Raise your knees up a bit more, you’re too low. Loosen your grip slightly, you don’t want to hold it too hard. Remember my key words, slightly. You don’t want to hold your weapon too tight or too loose.”
Listening to his sisters observations, the young ninja raised up his legs a little bit. He made sure that both of his hands rested gently but firmly on his katana. After doing this a couple more times, Syriv could tell he was getting the hang of it.
