Open Overview Items to Customs again.

After seeing Solus post a suggestion to put in some components that he thought would be a great addition I thought that it might have been a much easier process if they had simply been allowed to be submitted through customs once more.

I am not aware of the reason that items were closed to customs originally, but I know it was quite a while ago. Whatever problem that was addressed by closing customs is long gone by now right? It would be greatly appreciated to make custom items again. I don't mean Selfish items or items with special powers like the Kyuushi, Tokihaga, or Benihime, but stuff more along the line like existing gadgets and weaponry.

The problem with this is that you can make your own custom weapons with the crafting system as we have it now. There are dozens of combinations of new gadgets which could potentially be made from already existing ones, and the enhancments on weapons can make it to where you make any kind of weapon you want - even weapons with latent abilities to an extent such as fire and ice damage.

With this in mind, opening up customs to overview items would be a bit... pointless really. It'd suppliment the need for crafting in a way. Granted, if customs were opened up you couldn't submit a master crafted weapon as a custom I suppose. Couldn't just yank the rub out of crafting's usefulness that way, but regardless, crafting sort of makes this particular area of customs obsolete.

Examples of some things we don't have and can't make with existing items that might be good to throw at customs for approval.

Skill tools. Everything from fancy clothes to improve Acting checks to persuade people, to a sextant to improve Nautical checks to navigate on the ocean. You could have some scary looking clothes to increase your intimidation checks, or a set of spurs and a harness to improve your Riding checks.

I/O Connector Kit. Take technology normally incompatible with I/O Ports and make them compatible. Be nice to upload all that data on your Camera Vision Goggles so you can blackmail someone with it, right?

Remote Detonation Kits. Similar to a Mine kit but instead of having a pressure or movement trigger or a timer, you just press a button to blow the grenade you apply this to. We can do it with tags why not grenades if you want to spend the money?

Various Trap Kits. Component addons. Things like adding a pitfall to a room, locking people into an enclosed space. Filling that space with a poison aerosol of your choice. That kind of thing.

Engines! Chainblades, drills, buzzsaws, automatic toast makers, I'm sure theres lots more! It's the logic behind Piston Enhancements, an integral part of Air Trecks, Ridebacks, Flying Destruction Machines, Grapnel Guns, Line Launchers, and Remote Claws.


Took me like 5 minutes to think the above up. Give someone else some time and I bet they could come up with some stuff that would add to our world quite nicely, improving the ability for people to make unique items of their own and helping to bring together character concepts and advancing new plot.

Look, Every custom you suggested is either in placed, being worked on, or I have absolutely no intention of allowing anyways. I'm trying to work where custom weapons is no more, and just removed completely. I'm not opening up customs because I'm keeping items very tight in what is being applicable.
