Chance is portrayed as a complex and intense individual; her background having been prone to a great deal of adversity, learning and mental stresses her mind and attitude have been greatly affected in turn. Although young; the state of her mind has been shocked into a state of hyper-progression as such, she typically acts mildly older than her actual age-group. Situating herself in a manner that helps sustain her life, values, beliefs and integrity often comes off as being cold, jaded and in manners of disputes acts in a neutral-aggressive alignment.
From a young age, her attitude had always been strong-willed and practical; existing in an abode that felled strict punishments to enforce the stricter rules, her mind had always yearned for more control; developing into an almost disorder level desire for ‘self-control’ grew into a state where she would calculate and enforce her body and mind into her –own- world, setting aside the opinions of others for her own benefit. This is often reflected when in discussions, arguments or tactical meetings; expressing almost exclusively her own mind, dismissing or combatting the opinions of others to help attribute her own worth. Through living in the harsh tundra-lands, Chance had begun developing powerful instincts and strong physical appetites to fuel her body, mind and although often concealed emotions; ultimately the goal was to help retain her sanity, safety. Due to this, when she had left the Land of Frost she very commonly indulges in desires with little trace of shame or guilt, sporting her a-typical half-lidded and stoic expression.
Looking later into her life, growing into what would be best classified as a young-adult. Chance struggles enormously with relationships be it friendships, intimate or otherwise; almost consistently retaining a defense; typically viewing such bonds as a vulnerability in a social and political position, a fear of loss or betrayal to her loyalty that she struggles to give without mass consideration and weighing the outcome of such losses if they were to occur. This, however should not be confused with her deep respect for camaraderie and it’s invaluable worth in combat and it’s worth in tying bonds of squads together, though her trying past of course developed gaps in trust; but when the trust is given, she holds to it with unwavering loyalty and respect as to her, it is a gift she can give no greater. And in turn is treated with a great deal of meticulous care, for good or for worse.
As her days continued; features begun to blossom. During the time that she inevitably abandoned her homeland to experience life outside of the freezing hells and manipulation of family. Her latent strengths begun to shine; or more so, became more apparent in contrast to the general populace. As her survival was necessary through hardships, understanding how to resist the weathering effects of the cold, knowing how and where to hunt; where to hit and how to kill. These, she figured were a common trait- In some degree there was such truths. Where she was surprised was due to the diverse adversity one must overcome in such harsh lands, adopted instinctual talents are learning and catching onto skills, talents and otherwise professions with a greater angle in performance- in a darker sense it allowed her to pick-up on how to identify the weaknesses of those that face her...
Stepping out into the fields of combat, exploration and experiencing ‘new’ things. Chance is often the first to step forth, in early isolation to trying environments; her wish to see, experience and lead was near unrivalled and is mistakenly confused with a sense of leadership. Which is something she was never particularly fond of; baring responsibility of others was a weight although carried without resistance, her mind was however internally reluctant. In the fields of battle, baring the furious aptitude with blade and lightning, her form took an aggressive, opportunistic and tactful approach; exemplifying her latent talents with ‘on-the-feet’ strategizing was a born combatant, fronting any combat line and to her dismay another trait that is typically found in leaders.
While not as commonly displayed. Her ambition often finds her in situations of developing a wide-array of connections, whether associates, paid networks or even understanding and using her enemies’ personal positions and abusing such relationships. Commonly associating with a belief that underlies a lot of her cynicism that things are often going to take a turn for the worse; creating an environment that is fortified by herself to help enforce the strongest and best outcome.
Delving into more particulars; Chance was typically known to have always liked simple things; sweetened foods, bitter drinks, the environment to bare some cold edge to it. And in turn, she was never particularly fond of warmer climates, sweetened drinks and bitter foods. Sight-seeing had always been a strong stress-reliever, basking in the images of natural undeterred lands; the idea of peace even in the natural struggles had always encapsulated her.

Perhaps the most unique and insipid part of this woman is her appearance. Wearing her jet-black and visually rarely cared for hair in a fairly lazy pony-tail, the spout coming from the top-rear of her head; just below the crown of her scalp. The front of her hair is perhaps the most cared for, combed to the side in a fringe-fashion that reached the top of her right cheekbone. Notably it appears to obscure the top level of her right eye. Leading to the most remarkable point of her features, is her right-eye appears to be always closed; a visible scar underneath the bottom lid suggests something extraordinarily hot damaged her eye as the scar resembles molten metal drooping down her face momentarily, this extends for about an inch. Her left eye takes a fairly lazy and expressionless stance, remaining half-lidded and unless in direct light; conceals the dark royal-violet hue of her eye. Although when visible, her eye does not give off much, if any emotion- With a very cold and dullen color to the iris. Structurally her face was sharp; the jaw-line was described as refined and more masculine than feminine suggesting her heritage in the harsh lands of the tundra had hardened a lot of her physical attributes for long endurance, over sporty-beauty.
Her torso, too was not nothing remarkable. Neck was thin and short, like the rest of her skin-tone had a very fair to pale tonal range. Shoulders were of fairly average distance, not too broad; not pinched together. The torso itself lacked any truly feminine form, only ever so slightly curving into a fairly pathetic hourglass. Revealing thin hips and a fairly small unremarkable bust; adequately confusing to those at a distance of her gender; had it not been for her hair. Beyond such details; her arms followed most traditional physiological rules, the tip of her calloused hands reaching just below the waistline. Perhaps the least revealed and only truly remarkable feature of her body was her muscles. Being roughed and refined by her upbringing in Shimo no Kuni, sporting refined, lean and plenty of endurance, hunter-esque muscles to help support her choice of combating within’ close-quarters but too, allowing long strenuous activities with little downtime in recovery.
The clothing she wore was what would best be described as ‘high-quality basic’. Wearing dark navy-blue scrubs often seen with the more traditional shinobi, standard-issue white-grey tenser-bandage wraps around her ankles and wrists for support and weathering. Same-colored shinobi sandals for foot-wear that otherwise displayed no remarkable qualities aside from being somewhat worn and washed over the course of the years. When in combat, she sports black leather gloves with metal plated at the back of the hand; fingerless holes for proper grip, sacrificing some safety to the elements. The shirt of the scrubs near the top is tightly-fitted and extends up to her neck for further protection of the elements. When on duty, the young-woman wears her headband around her neck; offering in her opinion. The most protection to lethal strikes; due to the sheer vulnerability and open-striking range for incoming attacks.
When off duty, truthfully not much changes in terms of quality. Changing her shinobi-scrubs into more loosely-fitted dark violet yukata with black trimmings; her pants were almost borderline pajama-pants, otherwise their closest counter-part in public would be sweat-pants without the band near the ankles, and rather loosely hung. Her footwear of choice are bamboo low-platformed geta (wooden sandals); the cloth banding were soft and colored crimson red with white-trimming.
Background:
“Hm.. Thinking back it has been quite some time” she pondered, lifting her left index finger to her chin; a brief couple taps as she thought back to her childhood. “So many sob stories that get passed around, it’s almost embarrassing that I’ve not much different… Perhaps only bit is its uniqueness; as all stories have.”
As far back as I recall, I had always lived in Shimo no Kuni; my family lived exclusively in the capital of Minarai. Early in my childhood things were fairly simple, I attended tutoring classes that my parents funded through whatever they were working on—To be frank I still to this day couldn’t tell you ‘what’ they did. I acted as a child should, reckless, carefree, cheerful in-spite the grueling colds in the winter, enjoyed what I had and learned what I could with a grin on my face. Couple friends here and there, things were far and few between during those times. My family had me studying and helping around the house more than I did really anything else; math, science, language, traditions, beliefs and ultimately goals that I should aspire to, or at the time; what they wanted me to aspire to.
Once I reached the age of six; things started to become clearer. Quite young I recognize, I began noticing changes in the behaviors of my mother and father, friends and the occasion relative we came across. These recognitions were the slightest changes of attitude towards me, I admit; I was never ‘really’ interested in becoming what they desired- For your entertainment it was a Physician. I began to get rebellious, leaving during hours I should study, playing when I should be resting. This continued for sometime until as formerly mentioned. They started changing too, my Father more-so; it was hard to distinguish or place my finger on it- But deep down inside, I felt sensations that things were going to go wrong when he was nearby. Had a bad day, didn’t get along with my Mother, myself or maybe something just ticked him off; the aura he gave off and the fear that my Mother gave off reflected. I suppose I am missing ‘why’ I got these. From the age of six and a half until I left things got—Aggressive, at first it was a shove here, a slightly too aggressive ‘pat’- these escalated into violent and forceful shaking, slapping, uninhibited shouting… To choking, bruises and gouges from a kitchen knife, a fork. Shards of broken glass- I wasn’t the only one mind you, certainly my Mother suffered such indecencies- She was just better at hiding it.
After the first year of the more aggressive beatings, I started to not particularly notice each day in and day out. They became blurred between lines; it became ritualistic that I became calloused and insensitive to the minor injuries that he inflicted. I couldn’t do anything about it, I thought; I knew it would come, a sneer; clenched fist or the way he breathed. After awhile I started to observe where I got hit—What hurt more, what hurt less. In time I would shift my body to the side, put more weight into one side or the other, all to reduce the pain of the viciousness that was going on for years.
At this point, I stopped going out. My tutor stopped coming by to show me things- it was on me to cover the dues of learning. I did, it allowed me some solace in the place that felt like a cage. One such that the key was in-sight; but I was more fearful of what lurked beyond the cracks of the wooden door, if someone so close; could be so cruel.
Then came one day that helped break my shell of weakness, ironically. This day felt uniquely off to the others, my mother never came home from work; I felt she was fine, but my Father wasn’t. Veins bulged from his forehead, wrists and arms. For being a rather built man to weather our elements, he was even more intimidating that I would typically, stoically watch myself lose myself. During the day I was studying; our small house had the desk where the family would eat, converse and otherwise carry-on with daily tasks. Not far from me he sat by the fireplace, unusually he had the iron rod that you shove and stoke the flames with. Sitting in the fire; he appeared as if he was deep in thought. In-spite the alarms in my mind, chest and spirit; I did nothing, sat and read paying it no further heed. Until I was grabbed by the shoulder in my seat, thrown to the floor. I don’t recall in much detail what he had been shouting- all I really picked out was along the lines of ‘your fault’ and our Mother. What came next was by far the worst agony I’ve ever experienced- At the age of nine, I had a stoked iron rod rammed into my right eye. He watched, I watched; he screamed, I screamed louder. He hadn’t attempted to kill me, else I would not have survived long enough to scream. After what felt like centuries passing; I had lifted both flats of my feet and pushed him as hard as I could- I remembered how to adjust my weight even in such agonizing positions.
From there, he sat across from me. Butt to the floor and back to the leg of our table; his eyes looked horrified and satisfied. I only remember heat, the feeling of liquid racing down my face; a burning sensation I could not quench with no amount of screaming and crying- salt to the wounds. I remember running from there; not ‘away’ but out. For the first time in a long time, my feet unshoed scraped against the ice ground, occasional block of brick and splinters of wood. I ran as far as I could into the city. Screaming for my Mother, to no avail.
Although not terribly important, I recall sleeping in an alleyway cold and alone. It was – Painfully solace in my now broken, betrayed heart.
I woke up the following day back at home in my bed. My Father sitting at the table, Mother nowhere in sight. From there, I lived in a state of instinctual fear- One feels when their life is on the line. I left my home day after day; ignoring the responsibilities of the academia from that day. I never did run away, not as soon as I thought I would at least. Every night I returned from being with friends. Sleeping, eating and running out before he could awake.
This happened for years, I was fourteen when I truly left. For months, a group of us always speculated ‘what if’ we ran, where would we go? Escape the cold of course, sure we’ve gotten used to it at this point. For me, it was a different cold; my Home, my Father- My runaway Mother. For them it was a sense of adventure solely, of course I did share in this sentiment. After half of us decided to head South and the other half decided North. We planned; although I can’t say I was terribly surprised when I was the only one that suggested Konohagakure, the ninja villages weren’t terribly reputable among us kids. A bunch of punks with weapons and fancy tricks that get paid to do dirty work. It grew on my however, where they felt fear; I saw promise, an opportunity to be able to prevent such indecencies on myself.
When we left, it was in the cold of night. Middle of winter; not our wisest decision- However it was the least suspected and least likely for someone, or a group of people to do. So we did it, stealing what make-shift gear we could from family, friends and shops that were too careless to properly lock up. We had weeks of gear spread amongst the five of us that decided to go South. Most of them were eager to stop at the land of Hotsprings; I voiced my reasoning to go to a ninja village, this never reverberated with their opinions though.
With myself in the lead, we trekked. It seemed endless, honestly; I felt weary and in the back of my mind. I almost hoped that someone would have noticed we were thieves and set out to hunt us. They didn’t – Perhaps we did them a favor in leaving. With blades, furs and our wits; the five of us overcame hunting for food; finding shelter in the mountainous ranges of the tundra. It was strange, I don’t think I ever did thank them; but I felt at home with them, we lacked a real home and yet I was happy- Worn with a flat face and a tired eye. I will be the first to admit, it’s awkward for me to try and display such vulnerabilities; I figure they knew, it was hard not to when they saw me.
I remember arriving at Hakone; my stay was brief. It felt off and uncomfortable- Being further south it was warm with so many people around. I recognized I intended to go to a much more densely populated land; but I figured such sacrifices had to be made… Here there would be no gain for a sacrifice such as enduring –their- elements. A few nights of recovering, enjoying the hot-springs and saying my final farewells… Final. I departed, a faked grin on my face I told them I’d be fine and they to me.
The rest, I admit lacks extravagance. I arrived here at Konohagakure no Sato; filled with joy, excitement, fear and an unsettling sickness in my stomach- Yeah, I got home-sick the second I arrived at the place I yearned for. Looking back, it’s somehow funny; in a cruel sadistic way.
I got my citizenship with little issue due to my age, all background checks confirmed I was no criminal- Guess one would say I was lucky no one –truly- cared about me, not that I’d have agreed with that statement some odd six years ago.
Enrolled in the Academy and picked up on the premise of chakra, combat and survival- Not that I needed much help on that. Although I was much older than most that were present, I passed within’ a year and started my career as a bonafied low-class grunt- I mean Genin… Think that covers the basis of my background kids… The details I’ll leave to myself, can’t get too intimate.
