Sitting in his nice, air conditioned basement, Eiji's butler addressed him. "Sir, I want you to learn how to use your looks to break a merchant." The stoic butler said as he lead Eiji downstairs and handed him a few items and some money. "Try to sell me those items, and try to buy some from me, and use your words and looks to try to convince me to help you on the prices." The butler said as he sat behind a make-shift desk. Studying the items Eiji got the total prices of the various items. At most the items in his hand would be worth 2000 ryo, or as he called it, chump's change.
Copping a sly smile Eiji walks up to the make-shift stand, places his hand on it nonchalantly, and stared into the "shop keeps" eyes. "I have here, something everyone needs..." Eiji spoke calmly as he knew that what was in his hand was really junk, but hoped the "shop keeper" would pay for what he had. Eiji then handed over what was a stiletto, a small dull one, and smiled deeply to try to charm the butler. Eiji cringed a little bit when he realized how old and rusty the knife in his hand was. Either way he would have to try to sell it, or he could just give up now on the idea of making his own fortune like his father had.
Although the butler knew exactly what was going on, he accepted the stiletto knife, and offered 2000 Ryo for it. 2000 Ryo more than what it was really worth in a shop. The butler only did this because he actually felt obligated by the young man's illustrious smile. When he finished handing the money over, the butler than put a few items on the top of the makeshift stand and told Eiji to try to buy them as cheap as possible. Each item was labeled with a price of the original. The items were, Kunai 100 ryo, Senbon 100 Ryo, regular umbrella, 1000 ryo and a scroll worth around 10,000 Ryo.
Eiji then began to study the items on the desk, trying to size each and every item up. At first he picked up the senbon, and studied it, then put it down. "This senbon needle looks rather... Dull, I couldn't possibly pay 100 Ryo for that!" He said as he moved on to the kunai and the umbrella at the same time. "And this kunai is rather rusted and old no? The umbrella here also seems to be quite worn for my tastes." Eiji said, trying to be as smooth as possible while studying the items. When he finished observing 3/4 items there, he began to stroke his chin.
"This scroll seems to be worth, something, No? 10,000 Ryo tho? When it's been sitting in this dusty store unprotected?" Eiji laughed as he counted his ryo. Looking deeply into the mock shop keep's eyes Eiji offered the money the butler had given him before, plus what he had "earned" from selling the rusty old stiletto knife. "I'll give you 4,000 for everything, no more no less..." Eiji said proudly as he did math in his head. The butler knew Eiji would have to work a little harder to convince a real, unbiased shop keeper, but he had believed that Eiji had learned enough from their little game. "Sold." The butler said as he begin preparing for the next training of Eiji's silver tongue.
