To obtain mastery over sound was quite the feat, one which Yoko had set out to accomplish, up until this very moment she had never so much as laid her hand on a musical instrument, never mind one as delicately crafted as the flute before her. As one could expect from a completely untrained practitioner she had very little idea of how to even start; sure the initial concept was pretty simple: blow into the flute and press a few of the holes in order to create a tune. However, as she was quite to discover, there was more to it than met the eye.
A pulse of warm breath passed through the instrument and rather than creating a melody, all that was produced was a shrill high pitched wail. Nothing like her initial expectations, and this was before she had even covered one of the holes with her dainty fingers. Pausing for a brief moment she considered her efforts, had she blown too hard? Perhaps she was holding the instrument incorrect? There were quite a few different possibilities racing through her mind, however, the one that she decided to focus on first was the force of her breath. Maybe if she took a shallower breath the pitch would not be as high?
Pressing her lips to the instrument once more she, she began to release a steady stream of energy into the flute. Hopefully this attempt would not be a complete failure like the last one and instead would create something a bit easier on the ear. As the note began to reach an audible level she was surprised to find that it was indeed passable.
