Character Depth
Personality:
If there were to be one defining trait of Hayate, it would be his pride. There are things he believes in and he takes pride in it. His country, his family and his village, all he looks to with the utmost respect, almost idyllic in nature, ignoring the obvious flaws around him. Despite him being prideful, rarely is his pride trampled on, it is not as simple as beating him in a foot race to set him off. Usually it is something that he perceives as meaningful and intentional. While a lost spar would not set him off, a personal insult to him which he thought untrue would and because of his pride, most personal insults seem untrue to him. His normal friendly and kind demeanor switch almost immediately, from the moment he feels slighted he will do anything in his power to get his perceived vengeance, no matter how big or small.
Most of the time, Hayate is content with his life. Perhaps his pride making him think he is doing just fine in life, or that he really is happy with his circumstances, he is not particularly motivated to become the strongest ninja alive or anything of the sort. However, his personal liberty is of the utmost concern to him, quickly becoming anxious or aggressive when detained or otherwise debilitated. Anything from a crippling injury to being tied up results in a quick shift in personality even if he was smiling just a moment ago he can be in a fit of rage. He resort to gain his freedom in anyway possible, even resulting in injury to himself or those he would otherwise not wish to harm.
Because of a number bad interactions with women, his normal gregarious behavior becomes very quiet and reserved in the presence of women, especially those senior of him. While he would not admit it, his pride makes him judge women differently than men. He is more likely to take: advice, orders, or even handouts from a man. He tends to shy away from women because of this, not wishing to be forced to swallow his pride. He does not hate women, just thinks less of them generally than men, most likely from lacking a strong woman role model in his life.
Appearance:
Hayate has a young face, even for his age. Full cheeks and bushy unkempt eyebrows paired with a set of large dark brown eyes. His hair a dark brown, thick and curly however kept short and well trimmed. His nose is large and round, spotted with red splotches from scratching his nose. His chin while not weak, is not particularly well defined. His ears average sized and kept close to his head. Small patches of stubble appear on his chin and upper lip, obviously he does not take too much time in preparing himself each morning.
His stature is average, however slim and muscular as ninja work typically requires. His skin overall would be a light tan and clean, no large scars other than the typical nicks and cuts everyone has. He always stands tall with his feet spread apart, his overall demeanor plays into his prideful persona. He however does look kind, always walking and talking with a smile. He is however confident to anyone who lays eyes on him. He is quick on his feet and agile and easily moves around.
Tied around his head, his hair protruding over his black head protector, proudly sporting the sigil of Konoha for all to see. He is usually seen wearing a black jacket halfway zipped up. Underneath a plain white shirt, poking through the opening at his chest. His shorts are simple and gray with deep pockets which his hands are usually stuck in. He wears black open toed sandals. At his lower back, attached to his waist is his pack and at his left hip, his katana hangs. The sword has a simple handle and a leather scabbard to match, rough and worn it would seem older than Hayate.
Background:
Hayate’s father was not a ninja, but a travelling mercenary finding work in whatever warband he could. Hayate’s father met Hayate’s mother on one of these trips, she being a tavern wench in a town he was escorting a petty lord through. In a fit of passion they quickly became enthralled with each other, not soon after Hayate was conceived. This would soon to be a point of contention between the two, as his mother would want to stay in the town, settle down and prepare a life for her and her new family, while the father had little intention of giving up his current lifestyle. Fights were had, things were broken and in a fit of rage, Hayate’s father left, going to find a new contract.
Soon thereafter Hayate was born, a healthy child in all sense of the term. As he grew older, his mother sank deeper into alcoholism, becoming a spiteful drunkard blaming her romance on Hayate many nights would end with Hayate cowering in his bed waiting for his mother's tirade to end. Strange men coming in and out of the house, his mother constantly in debt and living in poverty. When he was six he was forced out of his home and moved into a small farmstead with his mother, however with only one room. His mother would blame all of her misfortune on him and this would obviously bring a strain on their relationship. Sometimes for days, she would lock Hayate in the house to prevent him from “Causing troubles and ruining others lives like he did mine.” Hayate began to resent his mother however in an attempt to save his own sanctity would spent little time at his home and when he did, giving her word little weight. Occasionally his father would visit and take Hayate into town for a few days, in which Hayate would beg and plead for him to take him with him as to escape his mother's torment, but his father was still not ready to settle down and thought the boy would be more of a nuisance then anything.
One eventful evening Hayate’s mother returned half drunk, grasping a bottle of sake. Hayate was outside skipping rocks at the lake near their home when his mother began to shout, calling him names, ungrateful and things of the like. He tried to ignore her, continuing tossing rocks in the lake when he felt a pain in his lower back. His mother had thrown the bottle at him, in a fit of rage at his prideful ignorance of her insults. He stumbled forward falling into the lake, he quickly gained his bearings and began to swim further into the lake trying to get away from his mother who would soon chase after him, however as he got to the other side of the lake he turned to see her swimming towards him in the water. He ran into the treeline, where he would hide and cry for a few hours. After he felt confident to go back out and face his mother, he returned to the lake finding her shirt on the bank if the lake, but his mother nowhere to be seen. Slowly he crept back to his home, his mother nowhere to be found he reluctantly sat on his bed waiting for his mother to burst through the door in another fit of rage. Hours passed, which then turned to days, after the second day he heard a knocking on his door. Swiftly he grabbed the broom as a makeshift polearm to defend himself and he opened the door to see a semi familiar face. The tavern owner in which his mother worked at. He asked where she had been and that it was not natural for her to miss more than a day. Hayate then explained what had happened, to which the tavern owner shook his head and frowned, thinking the child was exaggerating as his mother seemed sweet enough at work. However he did soon realize his mother most likely drowned and took him back into town. Apparently his mother had a sister who lived in Konoha, married to a Jounin of the Hidden Leaf Village.
His father was nowhere to be found and that was his closest of kin, the tavern owner would ‘help’ Hayate by selling the house he lived in and using just enough of it to get Hayate to Konoha where his aunt would take care of him. After a month or so of travelling Hayate alongside the caravan he was travelling with arrived in Konoha. His aunt was aware of his arrival and made sure to treat him with a large dinner. His aunt was a plain woman with a soft voice and softer demeanor, very tidy and strict but kind, she did her best to take care of Hayate and ensure he would do better here in Konoha then he did in his hometown. Her husband was a simple man, quiet but kind. He soon opened up to Hayate and they spent lots of time together. After about two years, his uncle convinced him to try and join the academy and perhaps become a ninja like him. After much contemplation, Hayate decided to give it a go, despite being more than a few years older than his peers. He graduated with decent marks but proving to have a knack for Ninjutsu and Taijutsu in particular, obviously influenced by his uncle. His father, hearing of his son’s move to Konoha made a stop there and as a graduation present gave him his sword, a katana with an old leather scabbard. Hayate treasured the gift, he was too young to understand his father’s negatives and the gift meant the world to him. He would then, until today spent most of his time training with his sword becoming quite skilled in using it.
