As of late, Hayate had been incredibly bored. The normal monotony of the day seemed to make it all blend together. It got to the point where he would spend most of his days sitting in side moping around waiting for something to happen. However this morning was different, as the sun shone through his window, Hayate soon found himself awake with the sun glaring in his face. He slowly slugged around his room as he got dressed. When he finally finished he went to the kitchen to prepare himself breakfast. His aunt and uncle were still were still asleep, ‘Lucky for me,’ he’d say in his head as he quietly grabbed an apple from a basket atop the counter. Taking a bite of it before he left for the door.
Just as the sun finished creeping from the horizon, Hayate managed to get to the training fields, the day was nice and quiet, other than the occasional bird chirp there was little noise. Hayate then began to collect rocks from around the field, each around the size of his fist. Using his shirt as a basket, he managed to collect quite a few rocks before centering himself in the field, rocks in hand. As he sat down, he grabbed the largest rock and tossed it as far away from himself as possible. Quickly closing his eyes, slowing his breath he began to try and visualize the rock’s landing waiting for the thud as it met the ground. He waited and waited, however it’d seem the thud never came. Hayate then looked down at himself, chuckling ‘How could I expect to hear a rock hitting the ground, I even surprise myself sometimes.” he’d say before sitting back supporting himself with his arms behind him. For a short moment he scanned the tree line, until his eyes caught on a fox sprinting at the base of the forest. Hayate quickly glanced about ten meters in front of the fox to spot a white hare being chased.
Hayate peeled his eyes and continued to focus on the chase happening before him. Listening for every step of both the rabbit and the fox make, occasionally Hayate would close his eyes and try to follow the sound with only his hearing, the first time doing it he was able to keep track of the fox and hare, but his second time attempting it he lost their tracks as the rabbit darted into the forest. Hayate quickly reverted to looking for the fox, whose red tail he spotted just poking out of the thick bush. ‘Looks like the fox won.’ Hayate would say to himself, as he then looked for another thing to focus on.
Hayate continued to scan the brush before lifting his eyes to the canopy where he spotted a birds nest. The mother bird was feeding her children. Hayate took a deep breath and began to focus harder on the nest, trying to hear the slightest sounds or see the faintest of movements. ‘Two baby birds? Three?’ he shaked his head. ‘Their cries are too different, must be more.’ ‘There are four, I am sure of it.’ he’d say to himself before standing up, quickly making his way to the treeline, from a tree about thirty meters away he began to climb the tree. He then looked over to the tree, his brows furrowing as he noticed five young chicks in the nest. ‘Damn, that one must’ve just hatched.’ he’d say before hopping off the tree. ‘Bah I really need to practice more.’
As he began to get ready to leave, he spotted the same fox darting past him. He quickly glanced around, looking for what reason the fox would be in such a hurry as he noticed a small shadow float across the grass. Instantly his gaze went upwards where he saw a large eagle circling the fox. ‘Wonder if the fox’ll win his one..’ As the eagle swooped down Hayate began to pay attention to the noises of the bird's wings, the fox just managed to escape the eagle’s talons. Hayate then moved his attention back to the fox who was running for the tree line in a hopes to hear his footsteps, Hayate began to hear the silent crunch the grass as the fox’s paws connected with the earth. As he heard the beating of wings once more, he moved his attention to the eagle going for another chance, it’s last it’d seem as the fox was nearly to the treeline. Deftly the fox changed his direction just in time, to avoid the eagle’s death grip. As the eagle connected with the ground, Hayate paid close attention to the sound of the eagle ripping the grass from the earth. Then he noticed, with quite the rustle, the fox hammering into the tree line safe from the eagle’s onslaught. ‘Clever little fella, i’ll give ‘em that.’ he’d say before yawning. He glanced up at the sky noticing that the sun was nearly overhead. “I spent the whole damn day watching animals, I hope I didn’t have any chores.” he’d say rushing home.
