Observation
Rank: "E"
Skill: Skill
Effect: This skill focuses certain powers of observation - sight, smell, hearing, and touch.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Can be learned by an Animal. A failed check indicates that the character is oblivious until the thing is pointed out to him. This skill is important for ferreting out advancing enemies or ambushes, generally real-time events and actions occurring, versus scrutiny, which covers static objects or areas. A Game Master may roll an Observation skill check for a Character any time there is an NPC, monster, event or happening that a character might notice, even if he did not specifically state that he is monitoring his surroundings. Characters are capable of noticing any event within their perception. Observation reveals only facts, not motivation. If user has 25 or more Ranks in Evidence Analysis user gains a Synergy Bonus +10 to Observation. Each time learned user gets 1 die roll to increase the skill.
Limit: ---
Hayate felt the desire to train his observation skills once again after the last time, he had noticed his general perception getting better. It was an invigorating feeling, he felt like he was becoming a stronger shinobi and closer to his goal of becoming a Jounin. As he made his way back to the training grounds the area seemed quiet, he always liked to come at this time since it was relatively empty, it was hard to focus with the clanking and clattering of people tossing their kunai and shuriken. For now, at least, it was quiet. Taking a seat in his usual spot, he closed his eyes brought his headband over his eyes blocking all his vision. He was going to try and identify animals with just his ears.
“I think that’s a rabbit.” he would say hearing a soft shuffle of feet skittering across the grass. He would swiftly lift his headband opening his eyes looking towards the small hare running across the field. A small smile filled his face, obviously proud that he got it right. Quickly he would move his headband back down and his eyes sealing shut as he looked for another thing to track. Soon he heard a bit of fluttering in the wind. “It’s a bird.. A small one.” he’d say after taking a few moments. “The flaps of it’s wings are rapid..” to himself he thought it must be a hummingbird, when he opened his eyes he looked to the tree. It was. Again proud of himself he was going to try something harder, a bug maybe? He began to concentrate when he heard a faint sound of steps far away. “That’s fast and heavy?” he thought to himself before it got louder and louder. Rustle of leaves, crunching of grass, “What could it be?” he thought to himself.
Before he could react, it was onto him. Quickly he rose to his feet, reaching for his headband. As he rose up he felt a shot of numbness in his leg. “Shit.” is all he could say, the way he was sitting made his leg fall asleep. It was too late, it was onto him. He looked towards the approaching rumble and saw a flash of white and black break from the tree line. A herd of cattle were rushing towards him. Their was plenty of cattle, too many for him to run to the side. His only chance was to sprint. With his leg numb he wasn’t about to outrun the cows but he had no other chance, he was in a plain field so there was no chance to climb. Without another thought he began making a beeline towards the village looking for anything and everything that could be used as cover!
