“I should practice some Taijutsu I think,” Hayate said to himself one morning. Rising from his bed and beginning to get dressed as the sunlight slowly cracked through his window, he hadn’t gotten too much sleep that night. It was too hot, then too cold, just one of those nights that you spent tossing and turning, but it would not stop him. To the training fields he’d go, after getting breakfast of course.
Birds were chirping, the sun was overhead, today was a good day to train. The other day Hayate had been walking around enjoying the good weather when he saw a ninja in one of the many training halls around the village do a three part combo. Honestly, it enticed Hayate the move seemed powerful and it would fit in with his current skillset so he was set on learning it. Closing his eyes and trying to remember the combo to the best of his ability, he remembered a backflip then two kicks, there was a third part, wasn’t there? Either way, Hayate was not fast enough for it. “Stretching is important.” Bending over and touching his toes, Hayate would get ready to sprint. The field in front of him was relatively flat and he knew the terrain well it has been where he’s spent a majority of his training.
Hayate got into a runners stance, ready to begin. He took a Kunai from his pack, which he would toss hard into the air, immediately after he began. “To the tree and back,” there was one lone tree near the center of the field in which he was using as a marker. His goal was to return to his original spot before the Kunai landed. Hayate glanced upwards, checking how much time he had. “I’m going to make it!” he gave it his all, trying to beat the falling Kunai. As he got closer, so did the Kunai a good five seconds before Hayate managed to get to his original position he heard the sharp metal pierce the ground with a thud. Sighing, Hayate bent over going to catch his breath. After a few short pants he would retrieve his kunai getting ready to do it again. As he readied himself, he tossed his kunai into the air going to try again.
Again, breaking out into a sprint Hayate would push his body to the limit, focusing on his breathing and trying to sprint as fast as possible. “You’re not running a marathon, just go fast!” he would say to himself, despite lack of oxygen in his lungs, he kept running trying to beat the kunai, but of course as he was nearly to his original spot the kunai fell once more. Practice, it’ll just take more practice right? Hayate would continue running the same laps over and over. After a few what seemed wasted hours Hayate began to think he was not getting anywhere, he wasn’t getting fast enough for this there was no way these dumb laps would help him. Hayate looked up, the sun was right above him, it must’ve been noon.
After a few more hours of sprinting he realized he was getting nowhere. The kunai would still hit the ground seconds before he would reach the location. There was no way he was going to get faster at this rate, he thought. After a few minutes of figuring out what to do he realized his uncles had some spare training weights at home, maybe if he would run with the weights he would find results faster. So after running home and getting the weights, strapping them on of course, he would then go to run around the village for a few hours. It was beginning to get dark as he continued his slight jog, trying to keep his speed consistent and slowly speed up. He was beginning to get a bit tired, his headband was absolutely soaked in sweat and most of the rest of his body too. However he could feel a creeping ache come across his muscles, he was beginning to get sore. It wasn’t totally unpleasant though, at least he was getting faster. Sooner or later, he’d be able to perform that combo. He would then set to run home.
As he finally got back home, a hot dinner was ready for him. Which he happily scarfed down before heading to his room, as he stripped off his weights he truly felt how much he had worked himself the day before. He was definitely going to regret this tomorrow.
Hayate definitely was sore, there really was no doubt about it each step led to a shockwave of pain through his whole body, the training was beginning to take a toll on him but it wasn’t too much to stop. He would continue on with this regiment for a few more weeks each day getting as sore as the last, until about a week or so he would find himself actually enjoying the runs and not being very sore after. By the end of the month he felt he was finally ready to beat that Kunai. Back to his original training field, he positioned himself in where he had begun the training and now was ready to finish it. Tossing the Kunai in the air he launched himself forward trying to keep as much momentum as possible, as he reached the tree he began to sprint back to his original position, however the Kunai still beat him by a similar margin as last time. In a fit of rage Hayate kicked the Kunai lodged in the ground, nearly slicing his toe off! “DAMMIT!” he shouted in pain as his toe began to bleed. Swiftly he would begin to wrap his toe in a bandage to prevent any further bleeding. As he was patching himself up, he noticed the weights still on his legs. He had gotten so used to training with them that they felt natural.
Reinvigorated by his discovery, Hayate stripped his weights and got into his original position before taking his now bloodied Kunai and tossing it in the air. Immediately Hayate was off running as fast as he could towards the tree, he felt faster. As he hit the tree he knew he had made it, the Kunai had not even begun to fall. Still running as fast he could he made it past his original location with seconds to spare before the Kunai falling just moments after. Hayate’s face filled with pride of his achievement. Quickly after his short self-celebration he was back to cleaning up his mess and preparing for the next part of the combo.
Updraft
Rank: C rank short range offensive(0-5m)
Skill: TaiJutsu
Effect: A three hit combo attack designed to knock a foe into the air and keep them there momentarily.
Special: No hand seals are required to perform TaiJutsu
Drawback: None
Description: The user rushes an opponent and performs a very fast back flip, aiming to kick the foe in the chin with one leg, then in the torso with the other to knock them into the air, followed by a swift uppercut to the chin or torso, depending on whether the foe dodged the first part of the attack, or whether they're in the air already. The speed of this technique is higher than normal because the momentum of a full speed run is transferred into the back flip, then into the upper cut; however it is C ranked because of the speed, and the skill required to maintain the momentum through the movements.
Limit: Universal TaiJutsu Technique
