Heaven Battojutsu: Handle Interruption (Handle Attack)
Rank: "C"
Skill: TaiJutsu
Effect: The user is capable of interrupting an opponent's sword draw with their own sword draw.
Special: ---
Drawback: Cannot stop a second weapon.
Description: The user draws their sword while using Heaven Battojutsu: Unsheathing Technique (Single, Dual, Triple). The user will slap the opponent's handle with their own thus stopping the opponent from attacking or unsheathing. This negates almost all Heaven Battojutsu single sword techniques if close enough. This is a very useful technique for follow-up Heaven Battojutsu techniques. This technique is used with their Katana or Wakizashi.
Limit: Must learn from a Master of Tensora (天空 Heavenly Sky), Must know Heaven Battojutsu: Unsheathing Technique (Single, Dual, Triple).
“Ready, Bow,” Amira officiated as she adjusted her blue Gi and dark blue hakama. Taking Bowing forward, resting her hand on her Katana and Wakazashi as she had been allowed to train with live weapons at the dojo with the more advanced students. Bowing her body low, she bowed to her opponent as the other woman adjusted her breastplate that she wore over her clothing. Amira also wore the armor piece for protection; however one miss step in the kata could mean death for both parties. Kneeling down, Amira thought about what her opponent’s first move would be as the moved close to each other to prepare for the kumite. She watched as her sparring partner lowered her hand down to where the hilt of her blade resided. Amira took her Wakazashi and removed it from her belt, sliding it across the tatami mat as she figured it would be disrespectful to use one’s secondary sword in a kumite. Amira’s attention was partially focused on the hilt of the girl’s blade, as she was probably going to perform one of the many battojutsu kata forms that existed within the art of swordsmanship. Mentally Amira figured she would use one of the forms used to counter such techniques; however it would require perfect timing.
Timing in kenjutsu was everything. With timing, one could overcome any foe, Amira thought to herself as she could feel the tempo of the her opponent, watching her body, the way her fingers moved as the air around her body and that of her opponent was covered with a thin invisible mist helped her read and predict her opponent’s movements. The twitching of the fingers, the darting of the eyes to Amira’s lower part of the body. All of these were tell tail signs of using a battojutsu, not to mention it was the opening move. As Amira inched closer, raising her body a little bit as she angled her body to the side so that her right leg was slightly forward. She could sense the drawing of the blade coming as the officiator shouted “Hajime!” The Silence was suddenly broken with the ringing of the sword’s blade as her opponent reached over with her right hand and attempted to draw her blade with a reverse grip as she drew the weapon. Amira knew that she would have to react as her hand was already upon her hilt, ready to respond as she drew her blade, but not in the same way that her sparring partner had. There was a different objective behind this movement.
Drawing her sword, she jammed the hilt right into her opponent’s wrist as she was attempting to stop the battojutsu by attacking the wrist and stopping the technique with her hilt. The power was not something phenomenal, but was more targeted to equalize with her opponent’s as she blended her movement and timing with that of her partner. Pushing down and slamming the partially drawn sword onto the ground, Amira neutralized the battojutsu with little effort. The fellow attempted to raise their sword, but Amira was more focused on controlling the sword as she rolled her hilt under the blade pressing on the flat of the blade and pressing it across her sparring partner’s body as she would proceed to follow the technique up with a hit jab to the chest, pushing her sparring partner away and to her feet as Amira would draw her own blade and point the blade at her sparring partner as they gently both rose to their feet getting into a ready stance as they both positioned their feet, preparing for a much more involved fight. She had done a pretty good job of controlling and neutralizing the Battojutsu technique. The downside of doing such a maneuver required the user to be close enough to counter the opposing battojutsu. If one was too far away there wasn’t much that one could do other than block the technique after the fact.
Amira mentally visualized her body’s movements as she internally meditated on what she had done. It was indeed a well-placed maneuver and it did have its place when fighting. She could see this being her go to technique to utilize against opponent’s that favored using battojutsu, especially those of the secret arts that utilized very powerful variations of battojutsu. She would have to be very aware and vigilant when fighting warriors like that; however she was sure that if one could be well enough positioned to utilize the technique, it would allow one to have a very dominant position. Amira balanced herself as her opponent watched her moves, very aware of the fact that she had just neutralized a battojutsu, some of the fastest kata in kenjutsu. Amira was a firm believer in one’s timing being the most important aspect when diverting and directing counters. She was very well versed on this. Looking across the mat, she awaited her opponent’s now very cautiously timed strikes.
