Chizu sat in the grass, back against a tree as she gazed listlessly out into her backyard, dull cyan eyes slowly scanning the quiet land. All around her was green, the grass grew evenly with a few odd patches, large trees planted by her father years ago covered her land in a slightly unnatural pattern. Bushes danced lightly in the breeze, some bearing small red berries and other free of any fruit, the large river that ran through her land was flowing gently, clear and clean enough to support life in the ecosystem. Her eyes casually locked on to some of the wildlife that live in this area, little squirrels running about, birds nesting in the treetops, honestly what more could she want from her own backyard?
Chizu yawned, slumping further against the tree. It was pretty early today, the child had only woken up an hour prior to her coming outside. Her mother was inside the house, working on a few of her beautiful crafts to make sure they was all clean and ready to be sold later this day. Typically a family would just be eating breakfast about now, but the Moemasu family wasn’t too keen on that. Both mother and daughter found it difficult to digest any food early in the mornings, the typical side effects including dizziness and stomach aches. But as the child mentioned before, it's been an hour since she’s been awake, and even longer for her mother, so it was nigh time that they both get some food in their stomachs.
Chizu wondered idly what he mother would be making, the woman was a delightfully amazing cook, everything she made was just a little party for the child. Chizu couldn’t be more grateful for her mother, she doesn’t know if she would have ever gotten this far in her life without her interventions and pushes. She would have smiled if that was a thing she did.
“Chizu! Can you come in for a moment?” called a very womanly voice, carrying through the air in surprising clarity for where the woman was.
Chizu turned her head towards the back of her house, where the traditional door that lead to the kitchen was open. She didn’t call back to the voice, instead she pushed herself up and stretched her arms above her head, working out any creeks she had before walking casually to her home. When she stepped through the door, she barely took in the well coordinated house, far to used to her home to marvel at its simplistic beauty. It wasn’t necessarily a big house, but it wasn’t a small size either. It was two stories high, with a careful made basement that her father paid quite a bit to be made. The entire structure of the house was built to standard, though many of the rooms was actively storage units. Neither of its inhabitants needed much living space, so was fine to make the living room comfortable and presentable, and the rest dedicated to their crafts.
Various art pieces decorated the beige walls, some being paintings of her family, past pets, others being old dresses crafted by her mother and grandmother, each holding much history. They only had a couple of furniture pieces, a dining table, 2 stands, a small round table, chairs and 2 couches. The kitchen was furnished with everything they could need, everything organized and set up in a convenient manner. The only thing that really stuck out as odd was a strange mechanical board leaning against the couch. A “Hoverboard” if Chizu remembered correctly, a gift from her technophile cousin after he improved his crafts enough to spare goodies with his baby cus. The girl had no clue how to use the damn thing, but she keeps it around cause it's still cool.
Anyways, Chizu walked up slowly to a tall woman, stopping by her side when she glanced down from whatever she was doing at the counter. Hinata was a woman through and through, standing at an impressive 6’01 ft and having a natural elegance that most young women wished to obtain. Much like her daughter, Hinata has blue hair and blue eyes, unlike her daughter, her color was a few shades deeper than Chizu’s. Her long wavy hair framed the right side of her face, some fell down her shoulders to the middle of her chest, and the rest fell down her back, stopping at lower-back. Her skin was a light tan color, her eyes soft and framed by long eyelashes, thin fade brows that resembled short brush strokes. She was very well endowed, and her elegant long kimono simply made all of her features come together.
Best of all to Chizu, her mom had a beauty make on the bottom of her lip, just like the beauty mark under the child's left eye. Was it odd for a child to regard her own mother like a grand art piece? Chizu didn’t care if it was, because her mother was worthy to be proud of.
A light tap on her forehead made Chizu blink out of her daze, looking up at the woman she admired so much. Hinata smiled and shook her head at the child’s behavior, knowing full well why she dazing off. Being on of the few living things that the child was bonded to had that effect. But she didn’t call her here just for that.
(End of fluff)
“Chizu,” the woman started, “Today I want to start teaching you some important skills that you’ll need for the rest of your life. Now, I know that you don’t know how to cook, that’s mostly my fault for spoiling you a little too much in that aspect. But I figure that now would be a good time to start teaching to how, in case you ever need to make food for yourself and have no ryo to spare on a store.” Chizu blinked up at the woman in mild surprise, though she couldn’t really why this wouldn't happen eventually. The child was quite reliant on her mother for many things, she supposes that learning how to cook would just be the start to independency.
Chizu scratched her beauty mark softly, wasting as her mom pulled out some basic ingredients. Hinata motioned to the stool and the child obeyed, pulling the stool over and stepping on top. ”For now, I just want you to help me make Beef stew for later. The first thing that I want you to do, it trim this meat of all the excess fat. Just don’t trim off all the meat.” Chizu gave her mother a “I know that much” stare, but the woman just chuckled and set the 3lb roast on a pre-cleaned cutting board. Chizu stared at the roast, to the sharp trimming knife her mother sat down, to her hands.
Turning in her heel and stepping down, the child hurried to the sink and took off her gloves. Then she turned on the water and quickly washed her hands. Behind her, her mother nodded in approval and pulled out the rest of the utensils needed to make the stew. After she dried her hands on the towel, Chizu returned to her tool and took the trimming knife, eyeing the roast. Now, Chizu never trimmed the fat off of anything, but she thinks she knows what to do. When she watched her mother, Chizu noticed that she always trimmed them with thin cuts into the meat.
Like peeling an apple.
Her mother never took large chunks off at a time, so the child will try to mimic what she saw to the best of her ability. The child held the roast down with her left hand, then carefully ran the knife across the meat at an angle, she pushed the blade under the white fat, then started to cut it off. Due to the sharpness of the knife, it cut easily through the meat, so easily in fact that she found herself pressing a little too hard and making a cut deeper than she wanted. She frowned deeper at the excess meat that she cut off, but a “keep going” from her mom got her to continue trimming. She made a few more cuts that was too deep, but overall managed to trim all the fat off in a reasonable amount. The child set the knife down and let her mother examine the meat, the woman looked at it from all sides and was satisfied with what she saw. Setting it back down, she gave the next order, ”Very good, now I want you to cut this roast into 1 in cubes. I already have the flour batter ready for the meat.” Chizu nodded and started the task, first cutting the roast down the middle and setting one half aside.
