Yoko was out searching for her trusty companion Johan, she wore standard village attire, and was armed with her bow, forty arrows in a quiver, her special material kunai, and Luckbringer. With the latter firmly grasped in her hand, she began her search for Johan. Where could the mighty beast be? Hyaenodon's were, of course, expert hunters, possessing the ability to lurk within the grasslands and crush things with their massive maw. Yoko's first port of call was inspecting the area immediately around her to ensure the creature was not simply lying around.

Johan are you over here by the long grass in the west?! Of course, the youth didn’t verbally express this, as it would only cause a disturbance that could potentially scare off the wild animals, and by proxy her companion. What on earth could have caused the animal to leave the village and roam the grasslands? How did he get past the gate for a start? Well probably best to not dwell on things, there was potentially a large journey ahead after all.

The following tricks can be taught to creatures by training them in "D" Rank techniques. User nor creature gains any TP from learning these tricks…
Exclusive - The creature takes directions only from the handler who taught it this trick. If a creature has both the exclusive and serve tricks, it takes directions only from the handler that taught it the exclusive trick and those creatures indicated by the trainer's serve command. A creature with the exclusive trick does not take trick commands from others even if it is friendly or helpful toward them (such as through the result of a Charm Animal Jutsu), though this does not prevent it from being controlled by other enchantment Jutsus (such as Dominate Animal), and the creature still otherwise acts as a friendly or helpful creature when applicable.

It was time for a training montage, Yoko had been reunited with her companion, after what seemed to have been a lifetime. She gave the hyena a good rub behind his ears and received a wag of the tail in response. Everything was as it should be, or was it? Well, she had yet to establish the reason for the creature being out here in the grassland, it was most irregular. Perhaps her friend had been led astray by a member of the village?
This seemed somewhat unlikely unless it was a fellow member of the Inuzuka, maybe Johan had followed a fellow canine or being under orders? Either way, the issue could be resolved in a swift manner by retraining the large hyena. The trick that she needed to employ was called exclusive, in short, it meant that in the future Johan would listen to her, and her alone. Only extenuating circumstances would cause the animal to act to the contrary.
The training consisted of general repetition, rewards and mild punishment. As a rather intelligent creature, Johan soon learned that obeying Yoko was good, and obeying anybody else was bad. At its core, this was all the trick consisted off. When the youth was finished with her companion, she felt confident enough in the animal's training that even orders from a member of her pack wouldn’t sway Johan, instead, he would seek confirmation if the situation called for such actions, i.e. cries to run.
Sneak - The creature can be ordered to make Stealth checks in order to stay hidden and to continue using Stealth even when circumstances or its natural instincts would normally cause it to abandon secrecy.

The next trick went against the animal’s natural instinct, and as such was a rather difficult one to use effectively. So, Yoko was prepared to devote a substantial amount of time to it, she awoke early the next day with her companion, in order to put Johan through his paces. Yoko felt that remaining hidden was a key part of her skill set and as such was keen to re-instil this notion with her companion, without extensive training the Hyaenodon would likely burst into an attack in retaliation to a perceived threat.
Of course, this made sniping impractical, as the moment Yoko fired her arrow Johan would take this as an indication to attack, and attack the nearest enemy, or perhaps even the focus of Yoko’s assault. This conflicted with the youth’s desire to fire multiple arrows from range whilst being unobserved by her opponent. To further train this, she employed the exact combat scenario over and over, shooting at hired friends with dull arrows. All the while the ‘sneak’ command was held, and thus Johan should have remained within the grassland’s undergrowth.
Fortunately, it seemed the large hyena was open to this form of training, the positive reinforcement, was proving quite effective. Due to the terrain, and the animals innate camouflage, he was able to remain unnoticed for a prolonged period of time, the intensity of the attacks also meant that the opponent was afforded little if any time to take note of the surrounding wildlife, they would be more concerned with the direction the arrows were coming from. Due to the nature of the trick, a verbal command was required Yoko elected for an esoteric option: ‘at’.

Attack - The creature attacks apparent enemies. User may point to a particular creature that you wish the animal to attack, and it will comply if able. Normally, an animal will attack only humanoids, monstrous humanoids, giants, or other animals.

Being able to command Johan to attack a specific target was quite the boon no matter how you look at it. This allowed for a degree of teamwork between the two that exceeded that of a wild or unskilled animal, for a start Yoko could quickly assess with a relative degree of accuracy which targets the large Hyaenodon would lash out at. This invariably led to several different variations, of the technique, foreplanning meant that the youth could train her companion to cope in an unnatural situation.
The youth was quite to establish the cues for target selection, the default for Johan was to strike at the closest target that threatened Yoko unless commanded otherwise. Perhaps the youth would need to switch targets rapidly in the middle of a fight in which case the command ‘would’ indicated to the wolf that it should attack. Perhaps a raid boss presented itself, or they were required to kill someone in an underhand manner.
Perhaps one of the most important parts of the training was the targets that Johan was now willing to attack, under usual circumstances they would attack ‘normal’ creatures, humanoids, and the like. She had taught her companion to engage targets of equal or smaller size (to itself) and to avoid the undead. The latter was a relatively trivial task given an animal would normally avoid them, to begin with, the intention, however, was to avoid a situation in which the hyena’s crushing maw unwitting ingested toxic elements such as the blood of a zombie or the like.

Down - The creatures breaks off from combat or otherwise backs down. A creature that does not know this trick continues to fight until it must flee (due to injury, a fear effect, or the like) or its opponent is defeated.

The following morning Yoko set out to teach her companion the counterpart to the attack command, down, to disengage the target rather than fight to the death. Now, of course, its applications were quite lengthy in number, from ripping an ally to pieces to crunching a noble. There would undoubtedly be a time in which the youth would require this technique. Again a verbal command was required, and this time she selected the rather basic ‘down’ obviously this was a conditional phrase.
Simply saying down in a casual conversation had no impact what so ever to Johan, as he’d presumably not be engaged in combat. Thus the only time the word ‘down’ could be taken as an action was when given expressly to disengage. This cut down on the amount of potential confusion, whilst keeping the command clear enough to indicate to onlookers its intent. It wouldn’t sound as if she was egging the beast on for example.
Like the prior methods of training positive reinforcement was used, to condition the animal into obeying the order. Like with the attack command Johan practised engaging multiple opponents armed with an array of weaponry including fire (in order to make the animal more accustom to the battlefield) and then practised disengaging upon hearing the verbal command. Drilling the trick over and over was part of the refining process but by the end, Yoko felt confident that her Hyaenodon understood what was going on.

Hyaenodon Rank: "" Type: Rare, Large, Animal Effect: Larger than normal hyena. Large teeth and powerful jaws deal a strong biting attack Special: Preparation: ---; Duration: --- Drawback: --- Description: Slightly larger than a normal hyena, this spotted canine has the same shorter forelimbs of that breed but with a blunt face and larger teeth. The hyaenodon, sometimes called the short-faced hyena is a slightly larger relative of the common hyena. Hyaenodons (and hyenas) are generally thought of as scavengers but, in fact, most are skilled hunters quite capable of taking down large prey. When food is scarce, hyaenodons cover large areas individually in search of food, relying primarily on their sense of smell to locate potential prey. Hyaenodons are very dangerous predators. They cover wide ranges of territory when hunting and prefer to disembowel their kills. These creatures either hunt alone or in large packs led by a single leader. Though they sometimes scavenge animals, the hyaenodon’s sheer strength and size allows it to kill animals with ease (often animals larger than itself). Favored meals include lions, deer, elk, moose, zebras, and bison. The largest hyaenodons (those of Huge size) do not generally hunt in packs. They are solitary creatures by nature and hunt alone. Hyaenodons have large, upward pointing ears and dark spots along their bodies. As they age, these spots grow darker. They range in size from 5 to 8 feet long and weigh anywhere from 300 to 330 pounds. The largest hyaenodons reach lengths of 14 feet and weigh up to 600 pounds. Hyaenodons have massive jaws and large bone crushing teeth. They walk on their toes, and their claws are blunt and non-retractile. A distinguishing feature of the hyaenodon is the difference in length between the front and rear limbs, which gives it the appearance of always running uphill. Hyaenodons generally circle their opponents, sending a few of their number against their prey from all sides. The larger hyaenodons simply charge and bite their prey, crushing bone and tearing flesh with their teeth. The youth had returned to the grasslands with her companion Johan close behind her, she was again equipt with her bow and forty arrows but this time she was in search of hyenas. She and Johan crept through the grass in search of a pack of hyena hopefully she'd find them before long, but if she didn't then it wasn't going to be the end of the world. Her first port of call was a nearby watering hole. She crept up obscured from view due to the nearby shadows in which she lurked, and attempted to spot the animals that had gathered for a drink.
