His parents books
The air was well ventilated, Kiyata purposefully set his study up like this to ensure he could continue studying for the maximum amount of time, he was critical of these things. Today had gone slow, in the morning he'd cleaned and maintained his weapons and then set out his goals for today; arriving at the goal of education. His parents had a lot of books on alchemy due to them being medical practitioners so it saved Kiyata time and money. One book on alchemy basics aswell as a few others that contained more advanced information, he'd start with the basics. Kiyata already had an alchemy set up on the nearby table so that he could test out the more practical components of alchemy, after learning he would do just that. He sat at the desk in his dark green casual cloths, a shirt and pants, hair tied behind his head and eyes focused on the itinerary of information.
It's impossible to make reading a book enjoyable but thankfully Kiyata no longer enjoys much, some of these basics in alchemy he already knew or overheard. Mixing procedures, how mixing at different times can produce different results, different parts of plants or animals would produce different effects even when in conjunction. At first it was really hard to wrap his head around but he started to understand the foundation of it, all be it droning a bit. After he'd gone past the introductory section he'd started to get well into the book, poisons can be medicines and medicines can be poisons, beakers, test tubes, distilling agents and reactive agents; it was all very interesting. Kiyata got half way through the book before he'd felt the urge to actually give it a try, standing up he walked over to the alchemy table he'd set up, grabbing the mortar and pestle aswell as some of the common ingredients that are found around the leaf village, courtesy of his mother and father.
First he added the leaf and flower of betony, a plant typically used in helping with colds or minor things, very common in temperate forests and it just so happens there was an entire forest around his village, no short supply. While he didn't truly understand the plant all that well he did know what to do with it, grinding it up under the pestle inside the mortar and every few moments sprinkling ash on it to help thicken it up. After crushing the ash and betony he put it into a beaker, eyeing the lemon gras which he took a whole clump of in his hand just as the book suggested, holding it like the book told him he squeezed and rotated his hands as if wringing it, the grass broke and broke until small drops fell into the beaker as he squeezed. It was a green sappy color, strange to look at as it landed in the mush he had made....was he doing this right?
Kiyata added hot water and began stirring it, his eyes trailing as it almost looked like tea?. The hot water helped it before he set it up with the heating component of his alchemy set, the build up of heat didn't take long for the beaker to start its simmer then boil, the catcher above it allowing for the condensation to slip down into a separate container. Kiyata went back to reading the book, keeping his eye on the set with a passing glance ever few moments until the green-black sludge had kind of hardened into a sort of paste. He left the book on its section involving poisons and how they react to with a heat glove, pick up the beaker and empty its contents back into the mortar and pestle, there he mixed hit again, grinding it until it was a thick brown paste where everything inside it had practically disintegrated. He poked it and then slipped it in its mouth..Taking it out and with a straight face remarked "...Bitter"
