Character Depth
Personality
Shida is a very driven individual. As a child he was always full of energy, constantly running around and playing for most of the day. As he got older he began to find new ways of focusing this rather large reservoir of energy. Although he is young, he is very objective focused and goal oriented. Getting the job done was always his top priority. It was this attitude ,coupled with his abundance of energy that saw him through his academy training. Shida excelled in the physical aspects of shinobi training in articular, often receiving high grades when it came to mission simulations and field training. He was by no means a genius, but rather someone worked hard to do his best. It is because of this immense focus and work ethic that he becomes very easy to work with during group projects or training.
Conversely, he tends to struggle in more complex, non-work related things, such as various social situations. With no clear goal or objective in mind he finds it difficult to focus on any one thing in particular, making him somewhat restless in scenarios like parties or dates. When it comes to friends, he has few. He sees people more as allies to get a job done rather than people to to form strong bonds with, of course a support system like friendship is something every shinobi needs which may lead him to troubles down the road if this does not change. As far as he's concerned however, as long as they don't get in his way he has no problems. That being said, Shida has no tolerance for people who are selfish and only think of themselves. He believes when people can't see past their own desires it puts everyone else at jeopardy.
When he isn't training or studying Shida finds joy in observing the beauty of the world, whether it be cultural or natural. His most favorite is the art of dance. To him dancing is therapeutic and the ultimate balance between leisure and work. Shida finds great pleasure in pushing his body to it's limit, making every movement as fluid and as natural as possible; which shows most of all in his fighting style. While he particularly likes more graceful forms of dance, he has a guilty pleasure for hip-hop and break dancing. Aside from dancing, Shida also enjoys exploring the wilderness outside the village, taking particular interest in the variety of flora and fauna the land has to offer.
It can be said however, that his determination and his ambition are also part of his weaknesses. Due to the nature of his bloodline, pushing his ability too far could lead to death. He had come close to this only once before. After this incident Shida has become not just wary, but almost frightened of how damaging his own body could be. This fear has led him to purchase two twin short blades, believing that they would be a better, albeit temporary, alternative than his clan's jutsu.
His demeanor during combat situations is no different than when he had use to train with his father. The countless hours of sparring has left the young man mentally ready to take pain as well as deliver it. Shida's main focus is Taijutsu, preferring two methods of combat. The first being more offensive, choosing to use his speed and skill to rush down opponent with unexpected vigor and keep them on their toes. When it comes to defense Shida prefers to evade and counter attack rather than risk taking hits. This is mostly due to his bloodlimit, knowing that if his bones were to be struck they would instinctively begin to harden as a countermeasure. Shida would only use his Bloodlimit as a last line of defense or offense to catch an opponent off guard. Whether it be offense or defense, Shida remains calm and collected, paying close attention to the movements of his foe. To shida less is more. For example if a shuriken were thrown in his direction he would most likely choose side step it rather than waste energy jumping out of the way or ducking for cover.
Appearance
Shida has short, snow white hair. It's obvious he doesn't take time to really take care of it aside from washing it. This spikey, unkept hair falls down and ends at the center of his neck. Shida's black headband is tied tightly around his forehead. Unlike his hair, his headband is kept in immaculate shape. The metal plating is polished often, and because of this often gleams brightly in the sun. The headband covers his only birth mark, which is two red dots lined horizontally on the lower part of his forehead.
His eyes are a gentle, sea green. Shida has no other distinctive birthmarks aside from from the red dots on his forehead. His body is fairly toned from the extensive training he put's himself through daily. His body has been conditioned for harsh punishment and it is because of this, one may notice the many scars he has across his torso. These come from the training sessions he and his father had gone through when using the Dead Bone trait.
Because of his ability, Shida chooses to wear very loose fitting clothing. You can often see him adorned in a loose fitting, lilac robe. On the back of the robe is the Kaguya clan insignia. The sleeves of the robe fall down past the length of his arms, concealing whatever he may be holding. The front of the robe has a wide opening, exposing his abdominals then is tied together at the waist. Two small pouches are buckled to his waist, one containing shuriken, the other kunai.
His pant's are black and end around the midpoint of his shin and his ankle. Unlike the robe, his pants are fairly tighter so that the bones in his legs have an easier time puncturing through. The material is fairly soft and easy to move in. Shida doesn't care too much for style, opting in clothes that serve the purpose of comfort and efficiency. It could even be said that he is very minimalistic.
The only other distinctive equipment that Shida carries are the twin short swords he wears on his back. The sheaths lay in an "X" form on the small of his back making them easily accessible. Both blades are rather thin and are about two feet in length. The circular hand guards are standard in design. The butt of the handle is metal tipped so that they be used as a close ranged bludgeoning weapon.
Background
Shida was born into a fairly small family, with him being the only child of his parents. His late father, Josu, was a powerful shinobi who often carried out many dangerous missions. Much of Shida's childhood was spent training and conditioning his body in hopes of becoming a strong man like his father, who he idolized. As his training continued Josu discovered that his son developed the dead bone trait as well, which came as somewhat of a surprise since Josu had married outside of the clan. More so, Shida had inherited something more powerful than the dead bone pulse. Shida had inherited the drive and love that his father had for his village. When Josu eventually perished on a highly dangerous mission, the family was stricken with grief.
Shida's mother had become resentful of the shinobi life style. After the death of her husband, she had become much quieter and more controlling of Shida. She had scolded him each time he was caught training, especially warning him of the dangers of the dead bone trait. This did not deter Shida however. While these training sessions struck fear into his mother, it had brought him peace, a reminder of times he had shared with his father. In response he began sneaking out in the middle of the night to train, always being careful to return home silently. Eventually, Shida's mother caught on and inevitably punished him for it. This constant struggle began to drive a rift between the two. What he viewed as his mother scorn was only the fear of losing another beloved family member, her little boy.
Finally, he became of age, and much to his mother's dismay...joined the ninja academy. It was here where he really began to come in to his own. During every lecture he would sit towards the front of the room, listening intently and taking notes. During the designated breaks, the other children would play while Shida would spend most his time practicing throwing shuriken or running laps around the building. It was clear that Shida had been taking his time at the Academy more seriously than his peers. It was during this time he had discovered his fondness and aptitude for ninjutsu. Jubilated by this he began to work even harder, intending to be the shinobi that his father had always wanted him to be.
Soon it would be time for the graduation exams. While Shida was excited, his mother did not share his enthusiasm. After going against her wishes and joining the academy they began to speak less and less. For a long time Shida felt hurt, almost as if he was losing another parent, but began to push these feelings. Retreating into the comfort of his training, he began to prepare himself. He was determined to graduate, with the support of his mother or not. In preparation for the combat portion Shida began to train solely with the dead bone pulse, hoping to impress the proctors. Shida did not heed his parents warning, and this led to a very fatal mistake...
His turn had come up for the combat round. The battle was fierce and admittedly even for the most part. When it seemed as though Shida would lose he sprung to life with a flurry of dance like movements. Bone spines had jutted from his body and left deep gashes in his fellow student. By the time the proctor broke up the affair both students had been unconscious. It would be days until Shida had woken up, and when he finally did, his mother was there to greet him with watery eyes. It could have been the injuries he suffered but the way she latched on to him felt like a vice. However, her grip was not out of anger, but the bittersweet embrace of his mothers love and concern.
When he was finally discharged from the hospital, Shida spoke to his mother, sharing his hopes and dreams. Although it had pained her, she knew she had to accept the fact that Shida was determined to become a shinobi. "He has too much of his father in him" she thought to herself. Finally with his mothers blessing, Shida returned to the academy and graduated, officially becoming a genin for the hidden grass village.
