'Phew. It's a honey and fruit cake' thought the female when they came closer to the cake table. She cut a small slice of cake for herself plus some iced tea.
Marii went back to her table right afterwards. After putting down her food, she went to congratulate her aunt.
"Happy birthday Hinata oba-san!" told the young woman. "Thank you Marii-chan!" replied the older female. She gave her niece a big hug.
"I'm glad we could meet like this. It's not often we get to see each other" said the Raikage.
"I agree. Especially since you're all adults now. It's quite hard to believe that my son is a married father" confessed Hinata.
"I bet it is. My parents probably feel the same about us" suggested the female.
"Speaking of which...who is the young man who came with you?" inquired the woman. The brunette swallowed the lump that formed in her throat. It was time to confess.
"He is my boyfriend. His name is Kininata Hyouketsu" informed the young woman in a low voice.
"Really now? I don't think I've seen him earlier" replied the strawberry-blonde female. "That's because he's from Amegakure" whispered Marii. She tried her best to keep her voice steady. Her aunt blinked in surprise.
"I understand..." told the female. "Yeah, I thought we could wait until things calmed down. Politically speaking at least. But I thought it was about time to bring him here. We've been together for years now" informed her niece.
Her relative took her hands into hers. "Marii...I'm glad you have kept your head straight. Kami knows how many rotten men there are out there.
But I want you to think a little more on your relations. A leader needs to surround themselves with smart and caring people" stated Hinata.
"I hope Kininata-san is one of those people. You've lost more than enough friends and students. I don't want to see you to be in the same pain I or your mother was" finished the female.
The young woman could only nod. She had a very good idea of what her aunt was talking about.
Meanwhile, her son was being approached by the older male. "Hello Shuji-san. I wanted to say...I understand what you and Hinata went through all those years ago. Talking about it is never easy, and I wanted to say what you did up there was very brave.
I'm sure he's proud of all of you, just as my parents would be proud of me if they were alive today" told Kininata.
Shuji blinked. His expression was a perfect copy of the one his mother had right now. "I-I'm happy to hear that. Thank you for the compliment Kininata-san" replied the younger male. His voice was shaky, but honest.
He would remain silent until his cousin appeared. "Kininata, should we go back to our table?" inquired the young woman. Not even her sweet smile could hide the serious look in her eyes.
What the birthday child said made quite an impact on her. Especially since she had started to think about their future.
