Personality:
Kininata is not a shy individual, but he usually avoids large social gatherings or long conversations. He shows respect to all Shinobi above his station, but only shows it to his "equals" if they seem to be capable. He is very self conscious, and quite pessemistic of his abilities. Follows orders, but can be argumentative if they seem frivilous or pointless. He cares for those around him, but has little regard for his own well being. More recently, he has been showing a natural aptitude to make quick decisions and is slowly allowing reason and calm judgment to act rather than inexperience and emotion… with a few rare occasions where that opposite is true.
The first year of being an active Ninja has drastically changed how this young Genin perceives the world, and reacts to it now. He has become a Kage, faced a traitor within his own family, lost both of his closest friends as well as team mates, faced an assassin far more powerful than himself... as well as learned the darker side of his personality. When he is calm and focused, Kininata is a relatively spry and pleasant person, talkative and friendly - the shyness mostly gone now ever among strangers. However, when his guard is up, a stoic, cold man arises from him - calculating, cold, and efficient, but still possessing a degree of care for his fellow Ninja, those under his protection and to himself. Yet, there is a darker side... a side that both scares him and strengthen hims; it is this part of him that is the most dangerous, as here he cares of nothing except the victory - his friends, allies and wards mean nothing... he becomes what he can only describe as "the merciless ice", something that apparently he shares with his abominable grandfather.
His years in the wilds, without companionship, and facing the dangers that came with being out in the real world, has changed him. He has calmed greatly, his anger now replaced with wisdom and serenity. He approaches every situation with sensical caution and patience, and see's everyone as full of potential for good or evil, waiting until he can identify which. His guilt he has carried for so long is now gone, replaced with a renewed sense of carefree joy. He has in essence become more like a hermit or a sage in his long travel, and those who spend time with him will see he is a different kind of ninja now. He no longer worries about the darkness within him, for in the heat of battle he is fully capable of harnessing and controlling that side of him, accepting it.
Over the last tens years he has established incredidble self control over his emotions, to the point where he can completely control his "merciless ice" state, and has grown to finally resolve his persona demons. He is an adoring husband and father to two children, and is fierceless dedicated to their protection and well being. Deep down, he understands that if they came to harm - or were killed - the world would be drowned and frozen in a merciless storm of death.
Appearance:
Fighting Uniform:
His tunic is a burgundy Gi with padded vambraces and back hand wraps, with fine icy blue designs of rain drops falling and symbolisom of the Kazeraikou family, and is tied around the waist by a dark red belt. His leggings are also of the same shade, with silver/gold linings where the greaves padding had been sown in. Most of the time he is wearing a rust-brown haori which reached down to his knees; decorated in fine red threading designs of Rain and Kazeraikou family designs on its back, with small pictures of snow flakes on the arms and shoulders in dark blue.
Self:
He has red hair, but its so dark its closer to black, cut down to shoulder length with a small pnytail hanging over one shoulders. His eyes are a jade green with very slight, almost shimmering hints of ice/steel blue around the iris. His skin is slightly tanned, making his eyes stand out even over a distance. At his belt he carries a small Ice Gourd, currently filled with Ice from his garden and sealed with the Jutsu from the shop, with all his kunai and shuriken placed into their pouches and on his white-coloured cloak.
On his back, his Windmill Shuriken hung just beneath his back pack along with his family katana’s Shipijin (it has a blade coated in silver, sheathed within a Ocean Blue sheath, its handle decorated similarly to his clothing) and Jinyasho (The hilt of the sword is pale blue in design, decorated with silver-thread art of a ninja wielding a pair of swords. The pommel has a two inch black blade with a coating of a strange blue-black metallic paint mixed with silver. The cross guard is a snow flake design with thing edge of silver preventing its sharp edges from cutting the user. The blade is coated in this blue-black metallic paint mixed with silver, but in very fine detail is the pale blue script of Chiraku Kenisato, saying “Those who wield Jinyasho wield the winter’s perfection.” When held by someone with the Kaishin blood limit, the blade and the script gain a pale blue glow). At his left side sits Souzen's Salvation, a Tenkyo Buryoku Katana taken from Souzen Kaeda when Kininata defeated him years ago.
Though not of great stature and physique, he stands taller than most his age with an air of confidence and wisdom beset a man ten years older than himself. At his currnet age he bears long red hair, with the occassionaly fleck of grey coming through, and a thin but well maintained beard and mustache.
Bloodlimit: Possesses trace genetics of Kaishin bloodline, but due to external genetic manipulation, the bloodlimit is not accessible and all but faded to the point where no future generation of his bloodline could have the bloodlimit awaken unless the female side of the family also possessed the bloodlimit and had awakened it.
Background
Growing up as the Ice Genin of Rain
Kininata, called Kini by his family, is the youngest of two siblings, and was also one of the rare children who have the cursed talent to use Hyouton no Jutsu within Amekagure no Sato - for this alone, Kininata is among the few children given special attention in training as because of the limits his techniques has.
However, his father regularly remind him of his responsibilities to not only become strong enough to make it worth using, but also to try and teach other ninja students in the same predicament to become strong and reach their true potential, even with their limits. His early years, as such, are littered with moments where he is forced into training others and testing them, never really forming friends with his classmates or other children his age - a lonely life with barely a handful of social bonds.
His father is a Jounin among the Amekagure no Sato, formerly of ANBU, and is also among the few who can use this release effectively - as such, he acts as one of his trainers when his classes finish. However, this means that his brother, Tazuma, is neglected by his father regularly; the focus of his father has therefore created a fierce rivalry between the pair of them. Tazuma was a competent Genin within the village, and often becomes Kini's sparring partner for learning his Goken Taijutsu - although Tazuma's superior skill and knowledge tend to leave the young Ninjutsu user bruised more often than not.
Kininata never truly understood how he could learn this release - all children are taught about it, but very few have the talent to make it work. Training in the Ice release is more of a mockery attempt than anything serious, which is why children like him are treated almost like outcasts by other students. Having the talent did not make him strong - its extreme limits of needing ice makes him weaker than most other students at the academy, forcing him to learn Taijutsu to supplement what little Sution no Jutsu and Fuuton no Jutsu he knows so he can at least attend missions as a Genin should he pass the exams. During this period of his life, he spent much of his free time practicing with kunai's, shuriken, and trying to effectively use his Water- and Wind-release Jutsu's, only training with his cursed talent when his father is with him. For Kini, having the ability to use Ice is a curse far worse than missing an arm or a leg… or at least it was.
Life as a Genin of Rain
His first mission took him to the Border of the Land of Rain and the Land of Birds, patrolling for rogues and brigands... and his team found them. The three of them made an excellent display of their skills, each showing that their years of training had paid off, but Kininata came back from that mission changed... he had killed for the first time, some with his sword, some with his Ninjutsu, and some with his bare hands: it made him question his reasons for being a Ninja, and shook his faith in himself, taking him back to the day his mother died because of an accident he caused... however, after returning to the Village and forcing himself to train hard, he managed to find some degree of peace with himself and his guilt, then set off for his first Chuunin exam, confident in himself once again.
Kininata arrived at the Chuunin exams, and started a smooth, steady training regime that would - in his own mind - make him capable of being a real competitor in the exams. However, his first opponent was Kaidoku Uchiha, a Sharingan-using Genjutsu and Ninjutsu expert. Never facing a Genjutsu user before, Kininata was on the constant defensive, never being able to make a real attack... and before long, the fight had drained everything that the Ice ninja had; he lost the fight and was knocked out of the exams. Defeated, bruised, Kininata journeyed home to the Village, confident that he would never underestimate a Ninja opponent again.
Chronicles of the Sandaime Amekage, Kininata Hyouketsu
Upon his return to the Hidden Village of Rain, Kininata found himself being treated strangely by the other villagers; odd looks, bows of respect, polite greetings… something was off. When he arrived at the office of the Amekage to report his failure at the exams, he was hurried into the office by three of the village elders and his father. There, he was shown a letter from the Amekage, Corrin… or at least, the former Amekage - and the note declared Kininata Hyouketsu to be his successor as “the one who could stop the rain”. None of the elders liked the wordings of the letter, and his father was seemingly both pleased and worried. Kininata slumped into the Amekage’s chair with shock. It wasn’t the most pleasant of situations, but it was to be his fate, and as such Kininata took this new challenge in his stride.
It was also during his time in the office that he learned certain truth's about his past. He learned that his mother was of the Kaishin blood, and that both himself and his brother, Tazuma, inherited this powerful blood. However, in Kininata the limit only manifested itself in a natural affinity to Ice, with no other strengths attached. Tazuma received a late awakening himself, but within the mind of this red-haired ninja, he could feel the Kaishin blood stir... but never awaken.
Within two days, Kininata had been given his Amekage outfit, had re-arranged several things in the village and was involved in a parade on behalf of his official Inauguration as the Amekage. It was a long day, and it left him worn down, but the emergence of a disturbing report re-opened a chapter in his Genin life that he thought was closed. Now, using his new power, Kininata prepared to investigate this old problem as he prepared for his new life as the leader of the Hidden Village of Rain.
Unfortunately, things did not turn our as he had hoped they would: his brother, Tazuma, turned Missing Nin on the day he sent an assassion to kill his younger brother; Miyani and Kouushimei, the two closest people to Kininata, were killed saving his life from the villainous brother, and the Tower of the Amekage was destroyed in the wake of the attack. Kininata had lost most of the things dear to him that horrific day, and from there on, what had once been a boy full of hope and pride became a young man full of guilt and shame, of hidden anger and rage.
The End of one Cycle, the Return to Another...
After several months of serving as the Kage of Amekagure no Sato, Kininata finally saw within himself he had lost something; he had watched two of his closests friends killed trying to protect him from his traitorous brother, watched the Tower fall because of his arrogance, and been captured by Missing Nin from his own Village because he was too naive. He could see that he was too weak and inexperienced to continue his role as the Leader of Rain. So, with a chilled, cold heart, Kininata handed in his resignation from the office of the Amekage, and re-entered the ranks of a mission-performing Ninja - although the council decided that his service to the Village would be rewarded by leaving him as a Jounin.
From there, Kininata set up his home in the forests at the edge of the Village a short distance from within the perimeter wall - a place where his academy friend Kouushimei used. There, he restarted his training and preparations to continue his life as a Ninja for Rain. Recently, he performed his first mission since returning to his life as a Ninja... however, before doing so, he received notification that his honorary rank of Jounin was removed "to make it more fair" on the rest of the ninjas... so he began his first mission since leaving the office as a Genin, back where he started.
This first mission, an escourt of a convoy, did not go as planned, as a large bandit army - with what seemed to be a contingent of rebellious guards - captured the convoy and Kininata waited patiently for the bandits to lead them to their encampment. There he managed to negotiate his way out of the bandit village, losing half of the convoy's goods, but getting them all out in one piece.
Upon returning to the Village, however, he found all was not right once again. The seemingly prolonged curse of the Rain Village continued - taking the life of another Kage in his absence. This one, however, he did not mind so much; this Kage had been a murderer, kidnapper and former Missing Nin band leader responsible for his kidnapping in the first place - and he deserved his fate. Now, having "warmed up" from his first mission, Kininata continued his preparations to return to full active duty as a Ninja of Rain... but his sleep was suddenly regularly haunted by nightmarish visions of the Land of Snow, of his abominable grandfather, and of things he is as of yet unable to understand...
However, fate as it seems, is to keep repeating itself, for while on assignment for yet another new Amekage, Kininata discovered that he too had lost his place in the Village, though none know if he had been assassinated, or simply gone missing. Suspecting foul play from the Council, Kininata returned to Rain and informed the council of his utter dissatisfaction at their pathetic actions, and under the new Kage, Uchiha Koga, he plans to take a more frontal, active role in the Village's development again.
It had been a week since Kininata made his new commitment to the most recent Amekage, and he had been training hard. Already, his tutors - Garin Tokusuke, his Kenjutsu Sensei, and his own father - were being surprised at his speedy adaptation to their training regime, as well as the personal training he had been giving himself. However, deciding that he needed to take a beak, he has moved him into the park of the Village, where he has now encountered a truly interesting Genin... and already bonds are forming between the two of them, though neither will know the extent or intent of those bonds until time reveals it to them both...
Chronicles of the Kouu Sennin
Not long after establishing a group to remove the twisted corruption within his home Village, Kininata chose to leave it in the capable hands of his two allies, while he tended to a more personal issue - his murderous brother, Tazuma. It was time to contend with his guilt and he set off, starting with a journey to the Lands of Thunder to learn the Rasengan. At least, that was his intent - instead, he met denial and refusal. Time and time again, over the period of a month, he tried to persuade the master that he was ready for such a responsibility, but not once did he even flinch to consider the idea. It was a demoralizing experience for him, but it did not stop him from pushing on - in fact, it motivated him to strengthen his already considerable skill.
Developing his Suiton skill as well as his Taijutsu as he came across sympathetic trainers, Kininata continued his journey of vengeance for his dead friends, Kouushimei and Miyani. Seven months after starting his long journey he caught up with the betrayer in the Lands of Snow, across the sea, and faced his twisted brother in a battle for his very life, using every technique within his arsenal. After a long battle, Kininata stood victorious over his dead brother and cried for his passing - villainous or not, he was still bound by blood to this creature, and his childhood memories were still of someone who watched over him. Defeating the traitor, Kininata spent the month recovering, left in a mental state void of decisions: he had achieved vengeance for his dead team mates, but now what? Should he sacrifice himself for the Village against the corruption? He was in a quandry, forced to spend his time finding focus and clarity. It was in the ice cold lands of Yuni no Kuni that he managed to find that peace of mind; meditating every day, he found himself feeling more at ease with his past, his guilt, his failures - he forgave himself. At the end of the month, he had finishing being a child of his past chains... he was now ready to move on.
And so, he made his long way back to home, travelling back trough the world until he reached the familiar woodlands of his homeland - a year since he left on his quest. Now, he had to return home and see what had changed since then.
The Death of an ally, the Beginning of Something New
In the weeks that followed the return of Kininata, Souzen exhibited strange desires in his body language and tone of voice, something that was not a part of this man before he left on his journey. Taking into account his loss of his family, Kininata assumed this was simply a deep set anger and guilt for his loss, and continued his path, sending documents to Sand for a more neutral standing, and having a brief "entertaining spar" at the capital of the country. In both, he learned that he still had some distance to go before he was ready to take his place among the powerful members of Amekagure no Sato.
However, this future was threatened - Souzen, while Kininata had been deep in training after his return, wiped out the entire Council of Rain, and seemed to be on a madness-induced rampage of the village. Deciding that someone needed to take charge, he personally lured the insane Sixth Kage into the former headquarters of Tenreikouu... there, the truths were revealed to both about the other.
The aftermath of the conversation was a battle of death - one Kage versus another, each with powerful and viscious techniques to use against their opponent. In the end, Souzen's injuries from the council slowed his reflexes, and his mad mind assumed the young, distanced ninja was incapable of delivering a deadly blow... and was wrong. Though managing a fierce injury himself, eventually Souzen gave in to Kininata, allowing his madness and anger to be quelled by Kininata's efforts. The Sixth Amekage died, thanking him for saving what was left of his soul.
Kininata's trials, however, still continued. The artificial Bijuu that had been implanted during his birth had "activated", attempting to take over his body in his weakened state. Crippled, exhausted, he was reduced to a comatose state for some time, nearing death... until a medical ninja managed to remove the infection altogether. In the days that followed, his recovery was harsh on his body, and though released from the grip of the beast within, Kininata finds himself starting his life anew, though older and wiser considering his recent experiences.
Chaos, Blood, Love, and Duty
In the days following the bloody death of the Rokudaime Amekage, the village was in turmoil. The new council were uncertain of whom to make Amekage, the common villagers were concerned for their future in such turbulent times, and through this Kininata seemed at ease, calm. He trusted that the world would continue as it always had, and was just as trusting that the chaos that had just swept over his home would now subside for a few weeks at least. However, not all things would be that simple, for as soon as a new Amekage was elected, the former allies of his home attacked visciously - killing the new Kage, and within days were once again at their doorsteps, a fresh-faced leader forced to make a decision he simply was not ready to make.
The return of Renault Bishop, a man who had been gone from the village longer than Kininata in, stepped in to save the day, and his "strength" made him the new Amekage - this same man who abandoned his home while the Sandaime was still leader. His plea; to bring forth the "age of Bloody Ame"... something that did not bode well for the future of his home. It was then that a spark of hope entered his life - a letter from an old friend, Marii-chan, to meet him at a hot springs resort. Eager to leave the new order to its cursed beginnings, Kininata left immediately to see his old friend.
The two days they spent together were perhaps the best days he had experienced in his life; he was a man, enjoying the company of a good, attractive, thoughtful woman, and he could be the person he used to be all those years ago. It was there that he realised that his heart sought out for her, that he wished to be hers. It was a difficult experience, because both of them knew that such a thing would be near impossible given the world in its current state, and their own past experiences - but in the end, admitting in their own ways where the feelings of their heart truly lay, they separated from that wonderous resort of discovery, each burdened by the uncovering of their feelings for one another, and lightened by knowing that in the world, there was still hope and love past all the darkness the chaos was creating.
Now returned home, Kininata has acquired the scrolls of the sword once held by his friend Souzen Kaeda, and with a renewed vigor to see his heart's desire again with a smile on both their faces, he trains hard and prepares, finally, to make his mark on the world.
Once upon a time, a young Genin was sent untrained into the most dangerous of places, and failed from his youthful thoughts. The world forgot his name as he hid from the world, guarding himself from harm. Three years later... that Genin has achieved power, strength, confidence, and once more steps into the light made by the world. Kininata Hyouketsu, Kouu Sennin of Amekagure no Sato, Sandaime Amekage, is ready to face the world that tried to kill him in his weakness. And this time, his heart, mind, body and soul are committed to the one goal that he promised to Souzen and Corrin - bring peace to his home and his heart.
Relations and Reconstruction; The Chuunin Awakens
In the year since hsi return, Kininata Hyouketsu has gone through several changes in his personality, his style, and his experiences of the world. He has seen the heart within himself cleansed slowly of the darkness that Souzen's death brought him - as well as those of his brother and his father - by the loving warmth of Marii Kazeraikou. The bond that brings them together only seems to get stronger through the difficulties that life throws at them.
His return to active duty was strange than he thought it would be; seeing Mutegi in the red light district ready to start a revolution against the new Amekage was something he didn't expect. Only his experience in fighting against superior ninjas managed to get him through that, though with wounds of his own to contend with... and the weeks that followed only brought more bad news upon the Hidden Village of Rain as yet another of its Amekage's fell to fate, the cursed posting striking again. Yet Kininata did not lose hope in the face of this perpetuating madness. He endured, thanks to the bonds to his Marii, and remained the man who he wished to be.
And then the Chuunin Exams came again... and this time he was ready for it. Mentally, physically, Experientially, he was far more prepared than he had ever been for the challenge ahead of him. Travelling abroad, he faced his first trial through a forest of serious danger, where attackers who could prevent him and his fellow Genin from using their own Chakra forced them all to learn how to handle enemies with their natural skills. Wounded lightly, Kininata managed to persevere where so many did not... the exams had become far more lethal since his last one years earlier. The second trial seemed to be more of a test of faith and confidence, for there were no opponents, only a message of success at the end. He had become Chuunin at last.
His return home, however, brought into sight a village in ruin, and he had other concerns to contend with as well, for his dearest heart had been wounded by someone from his own village - from the same exam, no less. He ventured to the Village of the Hidden Cloud to see her and offer all the help he could in apprehending the assailant. There, he met with the family of Kazeraikou, and found himself ready at last to tend to his duties at home.
On his return, the Chuunin Kininata Hyouketsu finds himself aiding in the reconstruction of his village, establishing his reputation as a man of the Village, of the people, and of Ame. So begins his story as Chuunin of Amegakure no Sato.
An End to Suffering; The Sage of Rain Comes Home
He left suddenly a year ago, his house left almost abandoned. His affairs never placed in order, no messages sent to family, friends or loved ones. No one saw his parting. He traveled to the depths of the Land of Snow, in the mountains. There, he finally found what had evaded him for two years - his grandfather. The monster responsible for destroying his family's bloodline within him, for twisting his brother into a mad dog, for haunting his childhood with the monster left within his very biology. He entered the mountains fully prepared to do what was necessary... he left the mountains weeks later, wounded, clothes torn from battle... victorious. He never mentions of the details of the fight, only that his dark past is finally behind him.
He spent the next months hidden in the quiet corners of the countries he visited, meditating and practicing his arts in solitude. He learned to finally trust himself, his skills, his body. He found a peace that he had thought would never come to him, thanking the jewel of his soul for placing the seed of that peace within him. A month ago, he packed his belongings from his last stop, and made his slow hermit-like trek back across the landscape to home.
Dressed in worn rags, a heavy cloak and bamboo conical hat covering himself from weather, Kininata Hyouketsu - the former Sandaime of Rain, Chuunin - entered the land of his home once more. A new man, he finally finds himself back on the path he promised Corrin and Souzen to follow.
A Beginning to Enlightenment; The Sage of Rain Finds His Inner Self
Another suddenly disappearance after the incident at the Sepulcher left the young man questioning his purpose at his home village. He returned to his quiet, quaint retreat away from worldly concerns and deadly, bloody world his working life had always seemed to be. He found solace in meditating, in focusing on his journey to find his true self. His identity had always been something that had haunted his musings – Son of a Jounin AnBu; A Gennin Amekage; A man that lost his team; A man that killed his brother; The man that stopped Souzen from destroying the Village; The Rainfall Sage; The lover of his only jewel in life; A wandering Chuunin. Each of these were a part of his life, but none were defining of his true self… of who Kininata Hyouketsu really was.
He lost himself in his meditations and thought, spending days on end just watching the waterfall cascading to the small lake below. He saw flashes of memory from his past, each full of moments of pain and pleasure, of sadness and joy, of peace and war. As he faced the memory of everything he came across the ripples of his mind began to subside. Each day brought him a little closer to finding the man that he wanted to truly know. Then, one day, the vast ocean of ripples had all but vanished, besides two – those of the memories of Corrin Maeda and Souzen Kaeda. Friends. Allies. Dead men, one of their own hand, the other of Kininata’s. Both were the remnants of promise and duty to the future. Both bound him to be what the village needed, but never letting him be the man he could be. He opened his eyes, seeing what he needed to do. He couldn’t be the man to make the better future, he could be the one to help the next man make it. Help guide them from past mistakes – a guide. A real sage. So once more the wandering ninja of rain would return home, realizing that his freedom was only a stone’s throw away, and that his own ripple would soon be the one left in the ocean of his life… that, and the one of his true love.
In the last fur years, Kininata has moved away from living in the Rain Village, and now lives in a small, comfortable lodge in Hi no Kuni, closer to his love. He does return home in the village from time to time, but now acts more like a wandering vigilante. He does what he can to help the little people, to deal with bandits and help with humbling tasks, but he doesn't do it for money. He has all he needs in his home. He writes to his love often, to ensure they stay in touch, and visits her when they both have time. He still sees himself as a ninja of Amegakure, yet he also sees himself beyond that step as well. He wants to have the recognition of being a man of the people, of being reliable, and of being a great champion. Maybe one day, he may settle down and be a man of peace, or perhaps return to his old position as Amekage. For now, he simply wants to be the man he's been trying to be the last four years.
New Life, New Family, The Burden Finally Lifted
Some years ago he was offered a contract to escourt a friend of the family to Kumokagure no Sato, where he got mto meet Marii again. This time, though, he didn't want to leave./ He had grown the strength he needed to admit the truth to her, how much he cared for her, and that this time he doesn't intend to leave. The pair discuss may aspects of this, but before too long, he moves in with her to the Raikage's mansion, and within a couple of short years, they are married.
Kininata effectively became a shinobi for hire, taking only work that would avoid conflict as much as possible except where his wife was involved. Before long, however, she would be pregnant - and he to become a father. They had a pair of twins, and now his time became filled with being with them while their mother continued as Raikage. Over the years that followed he had never felt such joy in his life, and he could feel the boulders on his shoulder from the burdens left by his deathly past crumbling.
More recently, while being the Raikage's guard at a meeting in Yuki no Kuni, he made his attempt to mend the damaged fences with his remaining family. With help from Marii being there, he was finally able top start the patching of the wounds between them, and saw his mother giving him her approval and pride and love in his decisions. And finally the last of his burdens fell away into the past.
Nopw his family prepare for the next steps in their life - having their own home, their children preparing for school and potentially academy life; Marii preparing for a life slightly more relaxed from her office; Kininata finally able to let go of his duties. He was no long a shinobi of Amekagure no Sato. He was just Kininata Hyouketsu - father, husband, blacksmith and builder. He would keep up his training and talents to educate his children, to protect them, but he would not take on the job officially again unless it was for his wife.
